BALFAST - broke in tight quarters passing the 300 metres. Driver A. Poutama explained that he had shifted marginally outward to give room to a runner on his inside which was being impeded by another runner and he was momentarily placed in tight quarters resulting in the mare breaking. No one driver was found to be at fault. | |
ATOM HANOVER - paced roughly shortly after the start and broke. Over-raced approaching the 1200 metres and broke. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Warnings were placed on the mobile and racing manners of this gelding. | |
KATE JACKSON - raced three wide from inside the 1200 metres. | |
WILLEDU - checked racing towards the first bend. Paced erratically when racing one out without cover, lay in and gave ground quickly from inside the final 400 metres causing checks to trailing runners. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding. | |
BOPPER JET - shifted in under pressure near the 50 metres and had to be corrected, losing momentum. | |

GEORGE - Driver T. Macfarlane was questioned in regard to his drive over the latter stages of the run home. He explained that the gelding had worked hard racing one out without cover and the field had run the last quarter in 28.4 seconds and that he felt it was doing its best. He had encouraged the gelding by tapping it with the whip for the majority of the run home. Stewards accepted his explanation but reminded him of his obligation to drive the horse out to the end of the race. GEORGE was placed 5th in a tight finish between 4th and 5th placing. | |

ALL AMERICAN - broke approaching the 1800 metres losing considerable ground. Broke near the 130 metres and failed to settle. A Protest was lodged into 5th placing under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation on the grounds that this runner galloped in excess of 50 metres in the final 200 metres. The Protest was not contested and ALL AMERICAN was disqualified from 5th placing by the JCA. | |

FRANCO HAMILTON - an Information was lodged alleging that Driver A. Herlihy drove FRANCO HAMILTON carelessly (Rule 869(3)(b)) when shifting from a three wide position to a two wide position causing interference to SPRING CAMPAIGN (A. Poutama) approaching the 1900 metres. The charge was admitted and the J.C.A. imposed a one day suspension up to and including 7th September 2017. | |

WAYTOGO BRUNO - broke shortly after the start losing at least seven lengths when recovering at the rear of the field. The gelding pulled fiercely from inside the 1600 metres until improved by Driver J. Dickie round the field approaching the 600 metre mark. The authorization of the payment of the gelding's first placing was withheld until such time that it was established that a breach of the Breaking Horses Regulation did not occur in regard to its gallop over the initial stages of the race. WAYTOGO BRUNO was declared unruly for mobile starts. | |
LINC'S BUTE - the left hand sulky wheel tyre deflated and came off the rim rounding the first bend with Driver Z. Butcher retiring the gelding from the race. Driver Z. Butcher advised that the tyre deflated without any contact. | |
