Race Comments
Race 1BISHOPDALE/BUSH INN TABS & TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACEVideo  Video
HANDLEBAR HANK - driver D Reardon admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner over the final 400 metres. After considering submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $300.
FRANCO CALIPH - held up final bend. Stewards questioned driver T Sissons regarding the tactics he adopted near the 900 metres when electing not to improve outwards into the three wide line with cover. Mr Sissons explained that he was aware that REDMARO which was established to his outside had been left to race three wide without cover from the 1200 metres and he had anticipated that gelding would commence to tire on the final bend leaving him to improve very wide on the track. Mr Sissons added that he had been following ALEXY, which he felt would take him into the race, but this did not eventuate. After considering the explanation of Mr Sissons, Stewards were satisfied his tactics were not unreasonable and therefore took the matter no further.
ALEXY - raced wide in the early stages. Held up for a distance passing the 400 metres when trailing a weakening runner. Driver C Negus reported she did not activate the removable deafeners. A Veterinary examination of ALEXY following the race revealed no abnormalities. Driver C Negus (assisted by B Negus) defended a charge under Rule 868(2) which alleged she failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure ALEXY was given full opportunity to obtain the best possible position and/or finishing place by electing not to shift ground outwards on the final bend when an opportunity existed resulting in the gelding being held up. After viewing films and hearing evidence from all parties, the JCA found the charge proved and after submissions on penalty imposed a fine of $500.
CELEBRITY EASTON - held up final bend.
SHARKNADO - driver S Manawatu reported he was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.

LETS HUSTLE - back slightly at the start. Lost contact with the field near the 1000 metres.
MASTER MOONLITE - back slightly at the start. Paced roughly in the home straight and had to be steadied. Driver D Dunn reported he did not activate the removable deafeners. Stewards questioned Mr Dunn regarding the manner he drove during the running and after considering his explanation, the matter was adjourned to give it further consideration.
Stewards questioned driver D Dunn regarding the manner he drove MASTER MOONLITE during the race with particular regard to him not activating the removable deafeners in the home straight. Mr Dunn explained that at its most previous start the horse had been held up until the early stages of the run home and had produced a strong sprint when placed under pressure. For this reason, he elected not to improve his position until near the 300 metres as he was confident of out-sprinting CULLENBURN in the home straight. Mr Dunn added that the horse had paced roughly on the final bend after being shifted wider on the track and again passing the 100 metres after striking its knee resulting in him having to steady MASTER MOONLITE and lose momentum which he felt had cost the horse the race.
After considering the explanation of Mr Dunn and reviewing the replays, Stewards were satisfied Mr Dunn's actions were reasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
