In considering this matter Stewards took into account Mr White's explanation that the gelding had been doing its best and its chances had not been affected.

BOBBY BOY - hung inwards in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Checked by a breaking runner shortly after the start losing several lengths. Held up early and middle stages of the run home. Driver T Mitchell advised that he did not activate the removable deafeners due to the activation cord having shifted. Mr Mitchell was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home.

SPIRITED LOU - lay outwards shortly after the start checking BOBBY BOY. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the horse. Commenced to improve three wide approaching the 1600m and then raced four wide after MISS YOU BROMAC improved out from the running line. It was established that driver A Harrison (MISS YOU BROMAC) had commenced her outward movement prior to SPIRITED LOU covering her sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary. Held up for a short distance rounding the final bend. Driver Z Butcher was questioned into why he didn't activate the hopple shorteners until the final bend, Mr Butcher advised that the horse had broken at its previous start and he was reluctant to activate the gear due to the horse racing greenly tonight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SHEZ THE ONE - raced wide early before crossing to the parked position near the 1450m. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the middle stages when electing to hold the parked position, Driver D Butcher stated that he had initially eased to look to take a trail but FREEDOM DASH had not been travelling well enough to cross so he felt he had little option other than to remain without cover outside the leader.

ALWAYS FLYIN - raced wide early before being restrained to the rear. Driver Z Butcher was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove early in the run home when electing to shift inwards rather than attempt to follow THE SURFER when that runner improved outwards. Mr Butcher stated that it had been the connections' intention to drive the colt with a trail, however he elected to commence to improve forward three wide near the 1100m given the slow tempo being set. He further stated that after having been able to shift down into the running line near the 400m that his runner had then paced roughly for some strides and as such he was reluctant to attempt to shift outwards and force LENNY LINCOLN wider to obtain clear running as he felt it was a better option to look for a run to the inside. Mr Butcher also added that he was satisfied with the performance given the circumstances and felt that the colt would derive benefit from the run.

FRISCO BAY - broke in the early stages checking a trailing runner losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the colt's barrier manners. Over-raced middle stages.

FRISCO BAY - broke near the 1800m when racing to the inside of BROOKSIDE GIRL and checked a trailing runner before settling. An investigation was held into this incident. After hearing the relative evidence from A Poutama (FRISCO BAY), D Butcher (BROOKSIDE GIRL) and viewing the replays it was established that HEAVEN HIGH had improved to the inside of FRISCO BAY as Driver D Butcher had commenced to shift BROOKSIDE GIRL inwards to obtain a position in the running line. Mr Butcher had then taken immediate action to shift his filly back to a three wide position to relieve the pressure on FRISCO BAY with Stewards taking no further action other than to warn Mr Butcher for the manner in which he had shifted ground. Weakened in the run home.

The start was delayed due to the removable deafeners on SEASIDE ROSE releasing prematurely in the early stages of the score up. The start was then further delayed when gear on SEA OF LOVE required attention.
