CLASSIE CULLECT - when questioned regarding the improved performance stable representative D Stapleton was of the opinion the gelding had appreciated the economical run that the gelding had obtained as opposed to racing parked at its most previous start.
GOD ONLY KNOWS - Stewards questioned trainer/driver G Smith regarding the tactics he adopted near the 300 metres, in particular the reasons why he elected to shift the gelding outwards opposed to maintaining his position which would have enabled him to use the passing lane. Mr Smith explained at its most previous start at Oamaru on the 6th of August the gelding had been inclined to lay outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight when able to utilise the passing lane. Mr Smith further added that he knew he was able to obtain clear running when shifting outwards and felt that on this occasion it was in the gelding's best interests.
