Race Comments
Race 1HE'S WATCHING AT ALABAR TENDER CLOSES 31 AUG MOBILE PACEVideo  Video
SHADOW MAKER - showed early gate speed before crossing to lead near the 1200 metres. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 6th place, beaten 17.8 lengths. Driver B. Mangos was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted over the early stages when contesting for the lead. Mr Mangos stated that the gelding had performed well at its previous start and that connections had decided to go forward and have a look for the lead early. Mr Mangos further stated that he felt that Driver A. Poutama (LINC'S TIGER) would hand up the lead, however, this did not eventuate until approaching the front straight on the first occasion. He further explained that after crossing to the front that he had been able to slow the tempo before LINC'S BUTE improved forward and applied pressure approaching the 800 metres. He also added that he felt even with the fast first quarter that SHADOW MAKER would have been more competitive given its previous race performance but conceded that the early effort may have taken its toll. After considering the matter, Mr Mangos was advised that the distance for which he had contested for the early lead was at the limit of what Stewards deemed acceptable and that driving in this manner may well see action taken against him in the future. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Co-Trainer J. Teaz confirmed the driving tactics settled upon and advised that the gelding would be turned out for a spell.
SOMETHINGABOUTMARY - raced three wide from inside the 1200 metres. Co-trainer John Dickie lodged a Protest against the 1st placing of PARKER (D.
