Pre-race blood testing was carried out.

Driver C Ferguson was unable to attend the meeting due to being unwell and was replaced on his drive in Race 7 as per the Summary below.

Due to the inclement weather conditions, mudguards were directed to be fitted prior to Race 1.

Due to the mobile losing traction prior to release in Race 6, this race was started by way of a moving start. The mobile was not used for the remainder of the meeting with Races 8, 11 and 12 also started by way of a moving start.

Trainer R Holmes has advised Stewards that I'VE GOT A LONG FACE has been treated for a blood disorder since racing on the Nelson circuit and will return to trials before resuming.

Race 5 - PGG WRIGHTSON'S UNCUT GEMS TROTTERS CLASSIC (HANDICAP)
Trainer G Smith has advised Stewards that HE'S LIKE THE WIND has had its joints injected following its disappointing effort at Addington last week. Mr Smith added that the gelding has continued to work well and if its performance does not improve this week he will be reassessing its racing future from his stable.

Stable representative R Todd has advised Stewards that following its disappointing performance at Oamaru on Sunday JOEY MAGUIRE was subjected to blood tests which revealed a high white blood cell count which is now being treated.

LOVEYOUTODOIT - awkwardly away losing ground. Trotted roughly in the early stages and had to be steadied. Paced for a short distance racing into the first bend. Trotted roughly in the home straight.
FAMILY NIGHT - trotted roughly in the home straight.
ALI LINDENNY - broke at the start. Broke again racing into the first bend losing all chance.
EDEN CREEK - broke near the 2400 metres.
DRAGON BOY - broke briefly when being restrained near the 2100 metres.
SILVER SPUR - broke near the 850 metres.

TINTIN NATURALLY - placed in restricted room entering the first bend and struck several pylons when being steadied.
REMACHABLE IDEA - weakened final bend.
CRAFTY CULLEN - shifted inwards entering the first bend resulting in TINTIN NATURALLY being forced inwards striking several pylons. Driver T Chmiel admitted a charge under Rule 869(7A)(c) and after viewing films and hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Mr Chmiel's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 30 June 2017 (2 days). Mr Chmiel advised he was unable to activate the sliding blinds.
LIVING GLORY - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Held up final bend.
CHRISTIAN WHO - junior driver J Whittaker was warned to ensure he returns his foot to the sulky footrest at the earliest opportunity in the home straight. When assessing this incident Stewards were mindful of the limited race day experience of Mr Whittaker.
VELOCETTE - had to be steadied when tiring passing the 350 metres when awkwardly positioned between GLENGARRY ROSE and GOT A BEAUTY.

REBEL REGGAEZ - began awkwardly.
CHEROKEE RED - broke briefly at the start.
HONOUR THE BET - hung inwards near the 1600 metres and had to be steadied.
PLAYINGINTHESHADOWS - broke racing into the first bend when leading losing considerable ground. Broke again near the 1500 metres. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial. Trainer J Bartlett advised the gelding will be sent for a spell.
VYNDETTA - held up final bend.
JUNGLE GEM - gave ground final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance driver K Butt explained that the filly had been unsuited to working hard in the middle stages in the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some sensitivity to the right stifle. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the filly in the coming days.
FEAR ROCKN - broke briefly at the start.
RICO GOLD - began awkwardly. Driver J Curtin reported that one hopple shortener had failed to activate.
OUT OF ACES - raced three wide without cover from the 1100 metres before giving ground final bend.
BOUND TO IMPRESS - broke near the 900 metres after an easing of the pace.

THEBOYSLIGHTUP - broke in the score up inconveniencing HOT OFF THE PRESS with a false start being declared. Driver D Keast elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start. Paced roughly after the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record.
INTERNATIONALDIVA - paced roughly near the 900 metres after an easing of the pace and broke shortly after.
DALNESS ARIZONA - paced roughly final bend and in the home straight when weakening.
SOUTHBROOK STAR - late scratching at 11.45am due to transport difficulties.

MONKEY LUCK - held up final bend.
DIANA HARBOUR - driver G Smith was authorised as a late change of driver due to J Harrington encountering transport difficulties.
BRITE N LOVELY - Trainer I Cameron was issued with a $100 Minor Infringement Notice after presenting the mare to race without the notified sliding blinds.
JEAN SEBASTIEN - trotted roughly throughout.
MAJESTIC MOMENT - tired from the 500 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance driver S Ottley could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed signs of muscle tie up. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the gelding in the coming days.
 
Race 6ASURE ACCOMMODATION GROUP MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
A false start was declared due to the mobile losing traction just prior to the release point.
The mobile was tested prior to the re-start to the satisfaction of Stewards, the Starter and mobile driver. A further false start was declared when the mobile again lost traction. The race was then started by way of a moving start.
BRIDGET BLUE CHIP - driver R Close reported that he was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.
BELLA JONES - weakened from the 600 metres. Trainer/driver C Butt advised the mare may have choked down during the running. A post -race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
MAN OF STEEL - shifted inwards marginally in the early stages of the run home. Driver T Chmiel was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the home straight.
TOLL GATE - weakened from the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery with the Veterinarian recommending an endoscopic examination be carried out in the coming days. Stewards will follow up with trainer J Howe.
LAURAGRACE - over-raced early stages when wide on the track.
COOL CHANGES - broke with 450 metres to run.
BETTOR BACKIM - broke briefly near the 200 metres after becoming awkwardly placed close to the pylons when attempting a run to the inside of MAN OF STEEL which shifted inwards marginally.

EXCEPTIONAL MAN - held up throughout the home straight.
PIRATE BAY - broke at the start.
GAME CHANGER - broke at the start.
DORIE DELIGHT - began awkwardly. Broke after 150 metres when racing to the outside of ARDENT LUSTRE. Stewards questioned drivers G Smith (DORIE DELIGHT) and R Holmes (ARDENT LUSTRE) regarding this incident. After hearing their explanations, it was established that DORIE DELIGHT had attempted to ease ARDENT LUSTRE inwards however when unable to do so DORIE DELIGHT had hung inwards causing it to break. Mr Smith added that one hopple shortener had become entangled around the hind leg of DORIE DELIGHT.
INDIE - the required veterinary clearance was received. Broke at the start. Weakened final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
HAVINARAVUP - S Tomlinson was an authorised late driver change. Weakened final bend. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination after the gelding returned to the stabling area with blood present in both nostrils. The Veterinary Surgeon confirmed that the horse was a bleeder and was stood down for the mandatory 30 days. HAVINARAVUP must trial satisfactorily on one occasion and a veterinary clearance will be required prior to resuming.
BET ON A RASCAL - broke at the start.
BITE THE BULLET - broke at the start. A post-race veterinary examination was requested after the gelding returned to the stabling area with blood present in the mouth. This examination confirmed the source of the blood most likely to be caused by a dental issue. Stewards will follow up with trainer R Dunn in the coming days.
JUST BEN - permission was granted for a pacifier to be added to the gelding's gear due to the slushy track conditions. Broke at the start. Held up throughout the home straight.

BETTOR CHANCE - broke in the score up of the moving start losing all chance.

AMAZON LILY - broke at the start. Weakened from the 600 metres.
CULLEN WHO - Trainer R Dunn was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the mare to race without the notified sliding blinds. Weakened final bend. The connections advised that the mare would be retired from racing.
TORRID BROMAC - broke at the start. Held up in the early stages of the run home.

BACARDI N COKE - trotted roughly near the 2400 metres and again in the home straight.

MR FAHRENHEIT - stood on the mark checking the trailing DONSMEDAD and TESSA'S ROCKET. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
GREENANWHITE - late scratching at 2.50pm due to the track conditions.
DONSMEDAD - checked at the start losing ground.
TESSA'S ROCKET - checked and broke at the start losing all chance.
SUNDONS FLYER - slightly inconvenienced at the start.

LE VADO - weakened leaving the final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver J Dunn advised the filly had over-raced and may be better suited to a shorter distance.
ENGLISH ROSE - broke racing into the first bend losing considerable ground. Held up final bend. Raced greenly and shifted inwards near the 200 metres and struck several pylons. The filly was stood down to trial satisfactorily on one occasion.
RED UNDER FIRE - paced roughly near the 500 metres.
BETTOR TO BE TRICKY - hung inwards over the concluding stages.
NIC MAC WILLY - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Held up final bend.

SCOTLYNN JUSTIS - held up for clear racing room for the majority of the home straight. Driver J Young was warned to exercise care when shifting ground near the 50 metres.
HALL OF FAME - trainer B Butt reported the gelding had undergone a wind operation since last racing.
KARDESLER - paced roughly near the 1300 metres when being restrained to obtain cover. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination due to blood being present in the colt's mouth with this confirmed to be from a tooth with dental work recommended.
BOBBY T - out of position at the start. Driver R Cameron was advised to make a greater effort to be in position until the start. Mr Cameron reported he did not activate the removable deafeners due to the gelding hanging and being unable to obtain clear running in the home straight.
KAYTEEOH DENARIO - late scratching at 3.35pm due to the track conditions.
HYPERVELOCITY - paced roughly near the 50 metres when crowded for racing room.
SAILS - when spoken to regarding the performance, driver J Curtin explained the mare had travelled well however when placed under pressure to improve wide from the 500 metres had failed to respond to his urgings. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the mare in the coming days.
UNICO LEGEND - driver M Williamson reported the hopple shorteners on the gelding had not activated due to becoming entangled.
