DYING TO SEE YOU - weakened final bend. The hind leg spreader broke during the running. This gear was inspected and found to be in satisfactory condition. When spoken to regarding the performance driver M Williamson advised he had been disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post race veterinary examination revealed an elevated heart rate with the mare being stood down pending a veterinary clearance. Trainer N Taylor advised that DYING TO SEE YOU would now be sent for a spell. | |
LIMOSO - over raced middle stages. Retired from the event near the 1300 metres. Driver J Dunn reported the gelding had been making abnormal breathing noises and had begun to choke down. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. | |
IDEAL CONQUEST - when spoken to regarding the performance driver N Williamson advised that the gelding had felt lethargic throughout and may have been feeling the effects of recent racing. The connections advised that the horse would be sent for a spell. | |

A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities with the connections advising they would have their own veterinarian examine the gelding in the coming days to which Stewards will follow up. | |

OCH AYE THE NOO - hampered first bend. Held up final bend and throughout the home straight. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts. Subjected to a post race veterinary examination which revealed abrasions to the off fore pastern as a result of it striking itself. Due to this, the mare was stood down pending a veterinary clearance. Stewards questioned Junior Driver R McIlwrick (assisted by Senior horseman N Williamson) regarding the tactics he adopted passing the 400 metres when electing not to improve his position outwards when an opportunity became available. After hearing Mr McIlwrick's explanation, Stewards issued him with a charge under Rule 868(2) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure OCH AYE THE NOO was given full opportunity to win the race or finish in the best possible position. In taking this course of action Stewards were mindful of the Veterinary examination and when questioned Dr P Gillespie advised that the injury detected would not have prevented Mr McIlwrick from driving his horse in a competitive fashion. After hearing evidence tendered by Stewards, Mr McIlwrick and Mr Williamson along with viewing all available replays, the JCA dismissed the charge. | |
