Race 5 - PLUMBING WORLD HANDICAP TROT
Stewards have concluded their investigation into the driving tactics adopted by Driver M Williamson (ASTRAL RULER) and Junior Driver R McIlwrick (OVERCAST), particularly between the 1800 and 1400 metres when contesting the lead. After questioning drivers, re-viewing the racing history of ASTRAL RULER and OVERCAST, taking into account the sectional times and the results of a post-race veterinary examination of OVERCAST it was determined that the actions of Mr Williamson and Mr McIlwrick were not unreasonable in the circumstances. Notwithstanding this determination Stewards have advised Junior horseman R McIlwrick that in their opinion, he should have restrained his mare at an earlier stage in an attempt to give it some respite and therefore a better opportunity to finish the race off in a more competitive manner.
