Race 6 - ERIC RYAN MEMORIAL TROT
At an adjourned hearing subsequent to the aforementioned meeting, Junior driver G Crawford with the assistance of Mr G Knight admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) the particulars being that she used her whip in an excessive manner over the final 400 metres. After hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Miss Crawford's licence to drive in races from the conclusion of racing on 30th April up to and including 13th May 2017 (3 days).
Race 8 - PINELEA FARM MOBILE PACE
Trainer W Breen has advised Stewards that SANTANNA'S ROCKET has shown no ill-effects subsequent to its disappointing performance at Forbury Park last week and is of the opinion that working hard in the race on a fast pace did not suit the gelding in its fresh state. Mr Breen added that SANTANNA'S ROCKET has worked well in preparation for its resumption at Ascot Park on Sunday.

Race 1 OLPHERT CONTRACTING PAINTING & PLASTERBOARD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ALEXY - hampered for a distance passing the 600 metres when trailing a weakening runner. Hung inwards and struck several track markers rounding the final bend.
ANOTHER WINDERMERE - commenced to give ground from the 600 metres. When questioned regarding the performance driver A Suddaby advised he was disappointed with the effort however could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery rate, with a veterinary clearance complete with a satisfactory endoscopic examination required prior to racing next. Trainer M Saunders advised he would no longer be persevering with ANOTHER WINDERMERE as a racing proposition from his stable.
FRANCO HUNTINGTON - raced wide in the early stages until near the 1400 metres.
RAHURI BADLANDS - held up rounding the final bend and when being angled inwards to obtain clear running near the 250 metres, paced roughly.
UNDERSTUDY - hung inwards and paced roughly for a short distance passing the 350 metres.
NIGHTMARCH - out of position at the dispatch despite the efforts of driver R Swain. Broke briefly passing the 1800 metres. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.
PAY MASTER - held up in the early stages of the home straight until near the 150 metres.
TAKITIMU EXPRESS - improved wide from the 800 metres.
ELLNBAC - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.
 
Race 2 MCMILLANS EQUINE FEEDS TROT Video  Video 
ZSA ZIVA - broke shortly after the start and failed to settle losing its chance.
MON ARCHIE WAY - trotted roughly rounding the first bend.
WAR SPIRIT - driver D Dunn reported he did not activate the removable deafeners on the gelding due to having the field covered.
DENN NEE NOSE BEST - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight until near the 150 metres.
COPPERTONE LAD - broke when placed under pressure near the 750 metres.
THE POWER BROKER - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
ANOTHER DELIGHT - broke rounding the first bend.
EAGLE GALLEON - improved wide from the 1100 metres.
TOPNOTCH EAGLE - broke near the 200 metres.
JACCKA JOSH - hung inwards and trotted roughly for a short distance near the 350 metres then continued to hang inwards for the remainder of the event.
SCARLETT LANE - slow to begin. Broke passing the 1650 metres.
 
Race 3 SOUTH PORT INTERMODAL FREIGHT CENTRE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GUNSLINGER BROMAC - weakened from the 450 metres.
IDEAL ART - over-raced in the score up and got its head over the mobile arm. Trainer M Brown reported he would be making corrective gear changes in an effort to alleviate this tendency.
DALI BREAD - over-raced in the middle stages.
SOUTHBOUND TRAIN - paced roughly during the score up before breaking briefly shortly after the start. Raced wide from the 800 metres.
A SMART EXCUSE - raced wide in the early stages until near the 1600 metres.
MAGNATE MARA - raced wide in the early and middle stages until near the 1100 metres.
THE BEST CHRISTIAN - held up for a distance passing the 450 metres when trailing a weakening runner, only obtaining clear racing room near the 150 metres.
SHELBY BROMAC - driver A Beck was advised to change his whip action.
 
Race 4 CADUCEUS CLUB OF SOUTHLAND MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
JODY DIREEN - held up rounding the final bend until near the 150 metres.
CANARDLY REMEMBER - obliged to race wide for a distance passing the 1400 metres.
SWAP OVER - when questioned regarding the performance driver N Williamson advised he was disappointed with the geldings effort over the concluding stages however could offer no tangible explanation.

Race 5 PLUMBING WORLD HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
DIPENDRA - trotted roughly and broke entering the first bend.
JUSTAMOLLYARCHER - over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover then continued to over-race through the middle stages.
ASTRAL RULER - weakened from the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Stewards questioned driver M Williamson regarding the tactics he adopted on the gelding particularly through the middle stages when in a leading position. After hearing from Mr Williamson, Stewards adjourned the matter to give it further consideration.
OVERCAST - restrained near the 1450 metres when challenging for the leading position for a distance. Weakened from the 800 metres, with a subsequent post-race veterinary examination revealing both an elevated heart and respiratory rate. Stewards questioned junior driver R McIlwrick regarding the tactics he adopted on the mare particularly through the middle stages. After hearing from Mr McIlwrick, Stewards adjourned the matter to give it further consideration.
MASS INVASION - held up rounding the final bend.
SPOTLIGHT THE VALLEY - hung inwards rounding the final bend contacting several track markers.
MOMENT OF SUN - over-raced in the middle stages. Steadied passing the 800 metres when trailing a weakening runner.
JEN JACCKA - broke shortly after the start.
FATHER CHRISTMAS - raced in a four-wide position passing the 1000 metres when racing to the outside of MOMENT OF SUN. After reviewing films it was established MOMENT OF SUN had commenced its outwards movement inside the final 1000 metres therefore no further action was taken. Driver B Williamson expressed disappointment with the gelding's performance over the concluding stages however could offer no tangible explanation. Trainer P Williamson advised that it was his intention to freshen the gelding.
 
Race 6 DIAMOND CREEK FARM 2YO CLASSIC MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
HAIL CHRISTIAN - hung outwards and broke during the score up however recovered to maintain its allotted barrier position. Lay outwards and paced roughly near the 1500 metres. Hung outwards and broke near the 500 metres losing its chance. Driver A Suddaby reported following the event that the colt had raced greenly throughout. A warning was placed on this colt's racing manners.
STAR COMMANDER - over-raced for a distance passing the 700 metres.
SWEET MARY - hung inwards throughout the score up. Held up rounding the final bend.
ASHLEY LOCAZ - improved wide through the early stages.
 
Race 7 ALABAR SOUTHERN SUPREMACY STAKES FINAL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ROYAL BENGAL - steadied momentarily entering the first bend when crowded to the inside of WHITTAKER. Steadied near the 300 metres when crowded between BAILEYS KNIGHT and WHITTAKER which shifted outwards.
WHITTAKER - shifted inwards entering the first bend crowding ROYAL BENGAL momentarily. Driver S Ottley was advised to exercise greater care. Hampered for a distance near the 500 metres when becoming held up behind a weakening runner, then near the 300 metres shifted outwards crowding ROYAL BENGAL which had to steady in consequence. Driver S Ottley was issued with a warning.
MAJOR HIPPIE - raced wide in the early stages. Weakened rounding the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams expressed disappointment with the gelding's effort when placed under pressure however could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery rate. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the gelding with co-trainers M Purdon and N Rasmussen in the coming days.
YOUNG CONQUEROR - raced wide in the middle stages until near the 1200 metres.
SANTANNA'S ROCKET - out of positon at the dispatch despite the efforts of driver B Williamson.
BAILEYS KNIGHT - broke during the score up losing several lengths in consequence. A warning was placed on this gelding's mobile barrier record.
MONGOLIAN STORM - obliged to race wide for a distance passing the 1400 metres.
 
Race 8 bMAC SHEETMETAL SOUTHERN COUNTRY CUPS FINAL HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
GROOMSMAN - over-raced throughout. Held up in the early stages of the home straight and when shifting outwards near the 150 metres to obtain clear running hampered BETTA GO FERNCO. Stewards will speak with driver P Hunter in the coming days regarding the manner in which he drove at this stage of the event.
BONNIE'S KHALEESI - held up rounding the final bend and in the early stages of the home straight.
BETTA GO FERNCO - raced wide in the early stages. Lay inwards through the early stages of the home straight and near the 150 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly positioned to the outside of GROOMSMAN.
MIGHTY FLYING DEAL - raced wide over the final 1000 metres.
ACOLYTE - held up passing the 200 metres having to be steadied when awkwardly positioned behind MIGHTY FLYING DEAL.
LUCIANO - raced wide in the middle stages until near the 1000 metres.
 
Race 9 NEVELE R STUD/MACCA LODGE SOUTHLAND OAKS FINAL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
TRENDY BROMAC - paced roughly when being restrained entering the first bend.
 
Race 10 FOVEAUX COMMUNICATIONS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GLENBURN JOY - refused to step away with the field during the score up and took no competitive part in the event. A warning was placed on this mare's mobile barrier manners.
Entering the first bend LOUIE (T Williams) fell resulting in the trailing DACHY (N Williamson Williamson) being brought down, with MALIK (B Orange) and MY GEORGIE BOY (P Hunter) being severely hampered dislodging their respective drivers. Stewards acting under Rule 211A (1) abandoned the race due to the potential safety risk to horses and drivers when LOUIE was unable to be cleared from the centre of the track. DACHY, MY GEORGIE BOY and MALIK underwent veterinary examinations following the event with no significant abnormalities detected other than superficial abrasions. LOUIE was found to have suffered a compound fracture to the right-fore radius and was humanely euthanized by the veterinary surgeon. Drivers T Williams, N Williamson Williamson and B Orange were immediately attended to by the on-course St John Paramedics and cleared of injury, with Driver P Hunter being referred to Invercargill Hospital for further observation. Stewards opened and adjourned an investigation into the incident.
 
Race 11 TRANSPORT ENGINEERING SOUTHLAND MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LIKETHELOOK - paced roughly shortly after the start. Held up throughout the home straight and was unable to be fully tested. Driver M Williamson reported he was not afforded the opportunity to activate the removable deafeners on the gelding.
SHORTYS MATE - raced wide in the early stages until near the 1500 metres.
HOPES AND DREAMS - held up in the early stages of the home straight until near the 100 metres.
ROYAL COUNSEL - raced wide in early and middle stages until near the 1000 metres.
THE HIGH ROLLER - held up rounding the final bend and in the early stages of the home straight until near the 100 metres.
