Manawatu HRC - Wednesday, 29th March 2017
Race 8 - GOLD CUP FESTIVAL 31ST MARCH MOBILE PACE
An investigation was concluded into the driving tactics of Driver K Marshall on HOLD ALL BETS and Driver P Butcher on WYNBERG SALLY. HOLD ALL BETS and WYNBERG SALLY contesting the lead in a fast tempo over the initial stages of the race with both runners weakening over the later stages. Stewards compared the initial sectional times of the eight 2000m races held at this meeting. It was concluded that the initial sectionals recorded were toward the upper limit expected for horses of this class (rated up to R54) and that in the circumstances both drivers may have erred. However, both drivers did not display overly aggressive tactics for any protracted distance. Stewards issued warnings to both drivers in that they should have exercised better judgement and that they were on the borderline of being charged for driving in a manner which was likely to diminish their respective horse's chances.
