BURN OFF - Stewards questioned Junior Horseman R McIlwrick in regard to the tactics he adopted through the middle stages when applying a constant pressure to the lead of FORGOTTEN HIGHWAY instead of attempting to offer his runner some respite. Mr McIlwrick explained that having won three races with the gelding it was best suited to a consistently run race preferably with the speed being strong throughout. He added that the gelding was one paced and had previously under-performed in sit-sprint style races. He said that he had noticed FORGOTTEN HIGHWAY racing roughly in the early stages and felt the horse may gallop or surrender the lead if challenged for the front however when this did not happen he was content to allow his gelding to dictate even sectionals. Co-trainer G Hope confirmed the comments of Mr McIlwrick regarding the horse's more preferred racing style and added that traditionally his gelding lost ground on the final bend before recovering in the run home. After considering the explanations of both Mr McIlwrick and Mr Hope, the matter was taken no further.

SUNDONS FLYER - held up final bend.
MISSANDEI - Stewards questioned driver R May regarding the non activation of his mare's blinds. Stewards questioned drivers J Curtin (IDLE MONKEY), D Butt (WILMA'S MATE) and R May (QUITE A MOMENT) regarding this incident and after considering their explanations it was determined that WILMA'S MATE had legitimately shifted QUITE A MOMENT wider however due to the speed at which that horse was improving, those runners had locked wheels shunting WILMA'S MATE forwards onto the sulky wheel of IDLE MONKEY which was improving outwards simultaneously. No drivers were found to be at fault with no action being taken other than to report the circumstances.
