He further added it was the intention of the stable to have the horse driven in a similar manner in the future.

PRIME POWER - Stewards questioned T. Mitchell regarding the tactics he adopted on his gelding when taking the horse forwards in the early stages to take up a position to the outside of the leader. Of concern to the Stewards were comments Mr Mitchell had made previously (24 February 2017) advising them it was his intention when circumstances permit to drive this horse with cover. Mr Mitchell explained he had begun faster than he anticipated and reduced his handicap significantly in the early stages finding himself in the one one after 400 metres. He added that KING OF THE ROSES had shifted to a three wide position near the 1700 metres and so to avoid possibly losing his prominent position he too shifted outwards in anticipation of surrendering the parked position to KING OF THE ROSES. He said that KING OF THE ROSES immediately shifted inwards once he improved which had left him without cover for a considerable distance in the middle stages. After considering his explanation and reviewing the films Stewards deemed the actions of Mr Mitchell were reasonable and took the matter no further.
