Selected horses were subjected to pre-race blood testing.

Prior to Race 2 the track was downgraded from good to dead.

Stewards used discretion in regard to penalties recorded against horses engaged in early races due to the adverse weather.

Due to Stewards concerns regarding horses losing their footing during Race 4, several senior reinsmen were consulted subsequent to this race regarding the nature of the track and in particular with regard to whether it was safe for participants and horses to continue. Following this discussion it was determined that the track was safe to continue racing and the meeting proceeded without incident.

LACHIE MCCOOL - Trainer M Smolenski fined $50 for being late to notify T Williams as the driver. Began awkwardly. Checked and broke at the 600 metres.
SHARDAN SUZIE - over-raced throughout.
BETTOR IN BLACK - broke near the 600 metres checking LACHIE MCCOOL.
RENA BAY - broke shortly after the start and failed to settle losing all chance.
SLEDGEHAMMER - broke briefly at the start.
GEOFFREY P - paced roughly and broke near the 800 metres.

DELIGHTFUL MEMPHIS - broke when attempting to improve to the lead nearing the 1100 metres. Driver B Orange advised that the filly had lost her footing resulting in the break.
BETTER B CHEVRON - paced roughly rounding the final bend.
UNICO ENCHANTRESS - hung inwards throughout the run home placing pressure on BETTER B CHEVRON. The inside hopple connecting strap broke nearing the 60 metres with the filly breaking prior to the finish line and being lapped on by SACRED ANGEL. As a result of this break the outside hopple connecting strap also broke. A protest lodged against 4th placing under Rule 870(5) and the Breaking Horse Regulations was not contested by the connections with the JCA relegating UNICO ENCHANTRESS to 5th place.

PRINCE GEORGE - broke shortly after the start.
LYNETTE THE VET - trotted roughly at various stages and then broke near the 350 metres after contacting track markers when placed in tight quarters.
DAIQUIRI - broke shortly after the start.
TIME FOR DIAMONDS - began awkwardly. Broke rounding the first bend.
JUSTAMOLLYARCHER - broke at the start.
ROLLIN THUNDER - driver C Thornley was spoken to in regard to allowing runners to his inside sufficient room in future.

LORRETTA FRANCO - tired over the concluding stages. Driver C Thornley advised the mare failed to handle the testing nature of today's track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
BOUND TO IMPRESS - broke near the 350 metres.
RENEMAREE - out of position at dispatch despite the efforts of driver S Payne.
BLAZING VC - over-raced middle stages.

GLENISTHEBETTOR - broke near the 1150 metres.
ONE BIG FELLA - shifted up the track over the concluding stages with driver N McGrath cautioned to take corrective action in future.
CURLIMORE - Trainer N McGrath fined $50 for being late to notify S McNally as the driver.
NOLAN SACKETT - made the first bend awkwardly when hanging outwards. Hung inwards exiting the final bend. Again hung inwards nearing the 250 metres and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed to the sulky of EM AY.
GOTTA GO YA HU - weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BANZIE - broke near the 1100 metres. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
ALSA LUSTRE - tired badly rounding the final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

HOPEFUL HARRIET - broke at the start. Raced keenly rounding the first bend.
PRECIOUS SARA - raced greenly rounding the first bend.
CLIVE - broke at the start and failed to settle losing a considerable amount of ground.

MOTU PREMIER - driver advised sliding blinds not activated due to having the field covered.
EARS BURNING - broke briefly at the start.
BEVAN'S CULLEN - paced indifferently at various stages throughout the running with driver J Dunn reporting that due to this he elected to leave the hopple shorteners in.
MIGHTY FLYING MAJOR - broke briefly at the start.

TUTOKO KID - began awkwardly settling at the rear of the field.
JUST BEN - severely checked entering the first bend.
ZULU COURAGE - checked entering the first bend.
TITANIUM - driver advised he did not activate the sliding blinds on this gelding due to having the field covered.
MAN OF CHANGE - broke racing into the first bend and shifted inwards severely checking inside runners. The gelding has been stood down to complete one satisfactory trial.
DORIE DELIGHT - broke at the start. Broke again rounding the first bend.
KOTARE MIST - checked racing into the first bend and forced inside pylons. Driver J Dunn had difficulty shifting the filly back onto the track at the first available opportunity. Held up through the early and middle stages of the run home.

GIN RUMMY - lay outwards racing in the straights.
FREE BIRD - broke near the 1100 metres.
ALL SETTLED DOWN - broke shortly after the start.
MOMENT OF SUN - broke at the start. Broke again when having to steady to avoid the breaking BEAR'S REST near the 2000 metres.
SONEY BEATT - late scratching at 10.15am on veterinary advice.
BEAR'S REST - broke briefly passing the 2000 metres.
BRADS KENNY - trotted roughly and shifted up the track just prior to the finish line.

STAR IN THE FUTURE - driver R Anderson admitted a charge under Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip excessively in the run home. After considering submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Mr Anderson's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 9 March 2017 (3 days).
CASINO KING - the required veterinary clearance was received. Checked by a breaking runner near the 1100 metres. Held up and raced greenly exiting the final bend.
NOVAK - held up in the early stages of the run home.
ZIMFANDEL - checked by a breaking runner near the 1100 metres.
BUSCEMI - broke with 1100 metres to run inconveniencing trailing runners and losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
KITURA - checked by a breaking runner near the 1100 metres.
HAYDEN'S MEDDLE - settled five back on the fence and improved wide rounding the final bend. Driver J Dunn advised the gelding paced indifferently in the early stages and for this reason he elected not to activate the hopple shorteners.
CLAUS - hung inwards in the early stages of the run home.
