Mitchell was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted and in particular in relation to his decision not to follow on the back of BLACKGUARD'S CORNER when that gelding improved forward three wide inside the 1100 metres. Mr Mitchell stated that he had been reluctant to trail BLACKGUARD'S CORNER forward as he was mindful of the work PRIME POWER had already done starting from a 40 metre handicap and felt that BLACKGUARD'S CORNER would be able to cross MOMENT OF TRUTH to race outside the leader which would leave PRIME POWER three wide without cover. However this did not eventuate as MOMENT OF TRUTH had been able to hold the position outside the leader which kept BLACKGUARD'S CORNER three wide. He further explained that it was the preferred option to drive PRIME POWER with cover where possible and save the gelding for one run. Mr Mitchell's comments were noted.
