A protest against 5th placing was not contested by the connections and MEKONG PRINCESS was disqualified by the JCA. MY WEE MAN - broke briefly nearing the candy pole and lost ground. The colt continued to pace roughly shortly after the start. Paced roughly nearing the 500 metres and throughout the run home having to be steadied. When spoken to regarding the colt's run, driver G Smith explained the horse was unsuited to the indifferent tempo of today's race and added he had performed best when able to be positioned in the open where he could dictate more consistent sectionals.
HILARIOUS MAGIC - improved wide from the 1000 metres.
RAH DE RAH - hung inwards under pressure on the final bend. Sustained a flat tyre passing the 400 metres.
PAT CAMPBELL - driver C DeFilippi was questioned into the reason he failed to improve onto the back of CLAUS rounding the final bend when instead he elected to follow the tiring SICILIAN SECRET. Mr DeFilippi explained that his mare was best suited when able to be driven on the speed however from his draw he had become poorly positioned in the field. He added that at this stage his horse had lay inwards and so felt it was in his best interests to maintain his position in the two wide line as long as possible. The comments of Mr DeFilippi were noted.

MASTER LAVROS - attempted to improve three wide near the 600 metres but hung inwards and trotted roughly having to be restrained. Driver M Jones then shifted the gelding inwards to race nearer to the pylons passing the 350 metres where the gelding again raced roughly losing further ground. Trotted roughly throughout the final straight and was unable to be placed under any considerable pressure. When spoken to regarding the gelding's run, M Jones explained the gelding had travelled well throughout but trotted roughly when asked to improve at various stages. He said the horse had been uncomfortable when positioned three wide entering the final bend and due to it having a preference to race near the pylons in the past, allowed him to shift inwards. He added it was his intention to have the gelding's joints injected leading up to his next run on the 10th of February but said without an improvement in the horse's next two starts he would look to re-consider its racing future. A post-race veterinary examination showed filling in the left hind tendon and as a result the gelding was stood down pending a vet clearance.

The connections requested the all clear be withheld until they had viewed the films of the start as they felt the gelding had been impeded by an Assistant. Stewards after speaking with driver S Ottley, who advised she had requested the attendant's presence due to it being fractious, declared the gelding to be a runner and authorised payment of dividends.

MAC TODDY - over-raced in the middle stages. Held up on the final bend.
IREBY MEG - hung inwards throughout. Raced greenly near the 1000 metres and weakened thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities. When spoken to regarding the horse's run, the connections advised the mare had reacted badly to the removal of the boring pole and it was their intention to make gear changes to have the horse race in a more tractable manner.
FLAMBOYANT - hung inwards in the early stages and for a short distance became awkwardly positioned close to the wheel of QUITE IDEAL.
ROYAL JESTER - hampered near the 1000 metres. Driver M House was questioned for the manner in which he shifted ground near the 300 metres. ICE CRUSHER - raced keenly passing the 1300 metres. Had to be steadied near the 1000 metres when hampered. Had to be steadied near the 300 metres when placed in restricted room to the outside of the improving ROYAL JESTER. When spoken to regarding the gelding's performance, driver S Ottley reported that despite over-racing she had again been disappointed with its efforts. Trainer M Jones advised this horse would now be relocated to his beach stable. He added he would be having his vet examine it in the coming days and undertook to notify Stewards should anything become apparent that may help to explain the performance.
HIGHLAND REIGN - hampered near the 1000 metres.
ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED - Driver D Dunn was cleared of injury by St John staff after sustaining a kick to the leg in the winners enclosure by this runner.
