Selected horses on today's programme were subjected to pre-race blood testing.
Due to a mechanical breakdown of the on course water truck, water was unable to be applied in between Races 1 and 2.
Race 3 was delayed three minutes to afford the water truck time to complete a circuit of the track.

Race 3 - CANTERBURY TROTTING OWNERS ASSOCATION TROT
Driver Mr L McCormick was spoken to regarding the reasons PRINCE GEORGE broke nearing the 800 metres. After hearing from Mr McCormick and driver Mr M Edmonds (ANNA KATE) which was racing to the immediate outside of PRINCE GEORGE it was established that Mr McCormick had attempted to improve outwards when not entitled to causing his horse to break. Subsequently Mr McCormick admitted driving carelessly at this stage of the race with the JCA suspending his horseman's licence from the conclusion of racing at the Nelson HRC's meeting on the 15th January 2017 up-to and including the NZMTC's meeting on the 27th January 2017.

Trainer M House has advised Stewards that BET PRAY LOVE has recovered well after its disappointing performance at Timaru last week and will continue with its current preparation.

Race 1 INSITE ALUMINIUM WINDOWS & DOORS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MOTU TINKERBELL - paced roughly on the final bend when under pressure.
AVEROSS SPITFIRE - was out of position at the candy pole and at the dispatch. Driver A Faulks explained his gelding had raced roughly with him having to restrain. Due to its recent indiscretion from behind the barrier it will now be drawn unruly. Over raced in the middle stages. Weakened near the 500 metres.
CALENDAR GIRLZ - raced roughly nearing the 800 metres and lost ground. When questioned regarding this Driver C Thornley explained the filly would benefit from having its hopples adjusted and would be making this recommendation to the trainer. A post race vet check cleared the filly of any abnormalities.
HAYDEN'S MEDDLE - raced wide in the early stages before being taken forwards to race outside the leader near the 1500 metres.
CHEROKEE RED - paced roughly in the early stages.
 
Race 2 SPEEDY SIGNS TROT Video  Video 
ELVIS P - backed away at the start. Trotted roughly in the early stages. Broke passing the 400 metres.
GEENA'S GIRL - paced away and had to be checked back into its gait by Driver R Close. Trotted roughly rounding the final bend.
CHEVRON EXPRESS - paced away having to be checked by Driver D Dunn. The filly failed to settle and lost its chance.
ZSA ZIVA - broke nearing the 1000 metres before settling and breaking again nearing the 800 metres.
SCARLET BROMAC - checked in the early stages.
PAT THE MONARCH - broke after 200 metres.
GEOFFREY P - broke shortly after the start.
MR PRESTON - broke shortly after the start.

The start of this race was delayed by Stewards until the club could apply more water to the track.
I'M SICK OF EXCUSES - broke shortly after the start therefore losing its chance.
THE NEW MAN - hung inwards on the bend near the 500 metres and raced roughly.
MY NIKAYLA - was slow to begin and then broke in the early stages losing ground.
JIMMY NGA - when spoken to regarding the gelding's seemingly disappointing performance Trainer/Driver J Cox expressed disappointment but could offer no reason for the gelding's performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LOLITA FRANCO - raced keenly in the middle stages.
DESPICABLE ME - raced greenly when negotiating the first bend.
DONEGAL CARNBOUY - over raced in the middle stages and due to this slipped its over check. Driver J Morrison advised he would be recommending the blinds be removed from the gelding's gear.

SPOOKY - over raced in the middle stages when positioned to the outside of the leader.
IT'S OFFICIAL - over raced in the middle stages.
OUT OF ACES - raced roughly and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on its barrier record.
BROSTRANS - slightly out of position at the start.
UNICO ENCHANTRESS - broke in the score up and was out of position. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier record.
JOHNNY WHITE - slightly out of position at the start.
LIVING GLORY - raced roughly and was out of position at the start. This mare then broke for several strides in the early stages.
 
Race 5 EFTPOS SPECIALISTS NELSON PACE Video  Video 
UNICO LEGEND - broke at the start. Broke passing the 500 metres and lost its chance. Driver R May reported that the gelding had paced indifferently throughout.
MOYTURA - lay inwards throughout the final straight and had to be steadied near the 250 metres when awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of NORTH CAROLINA which was shifting outwards.
SMOOTH N EASY - broke at the start. Again broke near the 800 metres and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the mare's racing record.
WESTY RANGER - started back and out of position. Broke at the start and was slow away. Junior Driver S Payne was spoken to advisedly regarding starting in the correct position in future.
 
Race 6 HOANI JACK CUP (MOBILE PACE) Video  Video 
FRANCO LAMAR - when spoken to regarding the seemingly disappointing performance Driver R May could offer no explanation. Subsequent veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Co-Trainer G Hope advised that it was their intention to drive the gelding with a sit in future and that he believed the gelding would derive benefit from today's run after he had lightened its workload subsequent to its last start.
DREAM TO REALITY - over raced for a distance near the 1500 metres.
THE GOVERNOR - badly held up on the final bend. Hung outwards over the final stages.
MIGHTY EMPIRE - held up rounding the final bend.
DONEGAL CARRICKFIN - raced roughly on the bend near the 1800 metres. Broke leaving the final bend. A warning was placed on its racing record.
HANDLEBAR HANK - locked wheels with ONEDIN'S DELIGHT rounding bend.
ONEDIN'S DELIGHT - locked wheels with HANDLEBAR HANK rounding bend and had to be steadied.
 
Race 7 PALMS MOTEL NELSON / NBS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
LITTLE MO - broke racing into the first bend.
LADY BEATRIX BOURBON - broke at the start losing its chance.
SOLAR STORM - began awkwardly and then broke on the bend near the 1800 metres losing its chance.
BACARDI N COKE - broke near the 450 metres.
ALVIRA HEST - broke near the 450 metres.
THE PRINCE - broke negotiating the first bend. Broke briefly near the 1400 metres and had to be steadied losing some ground.
 
Race 8 NELSON PINE INDUSTRIES NELSON CUP PRELUDE (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
LINTON SHARD - hampered after 150 metres by the galloping HOPEFUL HARRIET and had to be restrained.
ARCANO - broke at the start. Due to its continuous indiscretions from behind the barrier will now be placed on the unruly. Weakened near the 400 metres.
HOPEFUL HARRIET - broke after 150 metres and lost ground. A warning was placed on the mare's racing record. Was held up on the final bend. Authorisation of 3rd placing being awarded to this mare was withheld until it was confirmed the mare had not breached the Breaking Horse Regulations when in a break through the early stages.
MISS DAISY - began awkwardly and got back as a result.
GRADUATE UNDER FIRE - tangled away.
 
Race 9 ANCHOR ENGINEERING / AIMEX SERVICE GROUP MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GOTTA CLASSIE GIRL - broke briefly in the middle stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Again broke shortly after the start losing ground.
PAUL'S VERDICT - broke prior to the start and lost ground. Weakened over the concluding stages. A final warning was placed on its mobile barrier record.
TAITTINGER ROSE - when spoken to regarding the mare's improved performance the connections advised that it had benefited from a return to mobile racing after missing away at its most recent previous starts which had been from a stand.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - paced roughly at the candy pole resulting in it being out of position at dispatch.
BELLA JONES - was out of position at dispatch despite the urgings of Driver R May.

AQUA JETSTREAM - was slow to begin. Tired from the 500 metres.
DANA DAWN - held up rounding the final bend.
FLAMBOYANT - held up rounding the final bend.
SHE'S A MAJOR - began awkwardly losing ground.
GUNPOWDER - broke at the start.

SHE'S EXTREME - over raced in the middle stages. Held up on the final bend. Driver J Curtin was issued a Minor Infringement Notice and fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to activate removable gear on this mare.
FRANCO SAXON - raced roughly on the final bend.
