Race 9 - W J DOYLE MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
Trainer C Markham has advised Stewards that JEAN SEBASTIEN has been treated for a respiratory ailment following its disappointing performance at Ashburton on Boxing Day. The gelding has since won at workouts in preparation for its upcoming resumption.

Co-Trainer N Rasmussen has advised Stewards that blood tests and a scope taken from CHASE THE DREAM following the disappointing performance of the entire in the Auckland Cup have revealed no abnormalities. CHASE THE DREAM will now be set for an Australian campaign.

Race 1 ONE SMART COFFEE PACE Video  Video 
BENZ BUY - checked near the 600 metres dislodging driver B Williamson. Mr Williamson was examined by St John personnel and cleared of injury.
SUNNIVUE FLASH - hung inwards and broke near the 600 metres with the gelding's hind leg making contact with the outside wheel of OLIVER NORTH, resulting in SUNNIVUE FLASH falling to the track with the trailing BENZ BUY being unable to avoid the fallen runner dislodging B Williamson from the sulky. Driver L McCormick reported that SUNNIVUE FLASH had shied at the improving TIME TRAVELLER to its outside causing it to race erratically. A post race veterinary examination of SUNNIVUE FLASH revealed minor abrasions to its chest. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial. Mr McCormick was examined by St John personnel and cleared of injury.
TINTED BOYZ - broke at the start losing a considerable amount of ground.
TIME TRAVELLER - broke at the start. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver D Dunn reported the gelding had been unsuited to improving wide on the track with the fast tempo of the race from the 800 metres.
OLIVER NORTH - checked near the 600 metres.
 
Race 2 SPRINGBANK TROT Video  Video 
SHE AINT NO ANGEL - slow to begin. Trotted roughly near the 200 metres.
RED HOT POKER - broke early stages. Driver D Dunn reported he did not activate the removable deafeners.
TEHORO NOVA - broke nearing the 1700 metres. Broke again at the 850 metres.
PARADISE SPUR - broke passing the 1300 metres.
CASTLETON TUI - broke and hung inwards entering the first bend. Continued to hang inwards and race keenly throughout.
ROAMING - stood on the mark losing considerable ground. Broke after 150 metres.
FLYING DAN - tired rounding the final bend. Gave ground from the 500 metres.
PYRAMID MUSTANG - broke near the 900 metres. Gave ground from the 600 metres.
THE DENNISTON ROSE - very slow to begin. Broke early stages.
ONE OVER DA STARS - broke approaching the 950 metres. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Driver S McNally reported he did not activate the removable deafeners. Authorisation of 4th place was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the filly had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
WHATASISTA - trotted roughly shortly after the start. Broke near the 2000 metres.
CUDDLY TROUBLE - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
IMPERIAL WHIZ - broke at the start. Raced wide rounding the first bend.

BEAUDIENE GAMBLER - gave ground final bend.
LETS ROCK N ROLL - hung outwards shortly after the start.
LIMOSO - placed in restricted room shortly after the start and had to be steadied.
AVEROSS FERRARI - gave ground final bend.
HILARIOUS MAGIC - paced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the colt. Trainer P Court advised he would consider making gear changes to the horse.
 
Race 4 NORTH OTAGO MOTOR GROUP FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CULLENZ DIAMOND - hung inwards leaving the final bend and in the home straight.
LILAC REIGN - hung inwards in the home straight. When spoken to regarding the improved performance, driver J Young advised the mare had benefited from a brief spell and a change in training regime to a lighter workload.
DUCKS DELUXE - broke nearing the 300 metres. Driver L O'Reilly reported the mare had struck itself causing it to break.
 
Race 5 FAT SALLY'S PUB & RESTAURANT PACE Video  Video 
SHARK ATTACK - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Raced four wide from the 600 metres.
CRACKABELLA - stood on the mark checking trailing runner and lost considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Held up final bend.
URALLA SUE - hung inwards leaving the final bend and in the home straight.
BUFFY BAY - held up final bend.
JUST BEN - broke at the start. Held up final bend.
FASTROUNDTOWN - had to steady near the 150 metres when placed in restricted room.
PASSION FLOWER - displayed poor barrier manners prior to the start and reared on several occasions before swinging sideways inside track markers prior to the start being effected. The all clear was delayed until Stewards had reviewed a replay of the start and were satisfied that PASSION FLOWER had been denied a fair start. Acting under Rule 213 (1)(j) PASSION FLOWER was declared a non-runner. Stood down to trial satisfactorily from a stand on one occasion.
LIKELY JEREME - checked at the start and broke.
LEADING THE WAY - checked at the start unbalancing driver J Morrison and broke. Held up final bend and until late in the run home. Driver J Morrison was warned to exercise care when shifting ground near the 150 metres.
DREAMY MCSTEAMY - had to steady passing the 150 metres.
CULLEY BACKY - broke briefly shortly after the start.
MICKEY JAY - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.

MR MAJESTIC - broke at the start losing all chance.
DON'T LOOK BACK - trainer D Gillespie advised the mare was in season. Broke nearing the 2000 metres. Broke again near the 700 metres.
PLAYBOY'S BROTHER - broke after 100 metres. Checked first bend. Gave ground final bend.
HOLDON TOYASPURS - gave ground final bend.
DUSKY EYRE - cast a bell boot near the 1900 metres.
BRADS KENNY - broke rounding the first bend checking several runners.
OCH AYE THE NOO - checked first bend.
KOWHAI MONARCH - gave ground final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver S Ottley reported the gelding had been unsuited to racing three wide at this stage of its preparation, however felt the horse would derive benefit from the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MONTY PYTHON - checked first bend.
 
Race 7 PICK AND SHOVEL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MR WOODLEA - placed in restricted room leaving the final bend and struck several pylons.
CABLE BEACH - paced roughly first bend. Paced roughly from the 800 metres and had to be steadied. Broke momentarily passing the 400 metres and continued to pace in an uneven fashion and lay inwards leaving the final bend and in the run home with driver B Orange not being able to drive the horse out with any vigour. Driver B Orange reported that CABLE BEACH had been striking the sulky discs causing the horse to pace indifferently. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SAILS - broke as the start was effected losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
SPARKLING DELIGHT - placed in restricted room leaving the final bend. Driver G O'Reilly will be spoken to regarding the manner he drove in the coming days.
 
Race 8 GERALD - HAPPY AT THE BUS JUNIOR DRIVERS TROT Video  Video 
THE BEST BEG - broke after 100 metres. Broke nearing the 400 metres. Driver K Butt was warned to make a greater effort to avoid striking pylons on the final bend.
GORILLA PLAYBOY - held up leaving the final bend.
DREAM BIG - broke early stages losing its chance.
SHPEEDY - broke after 100 metres.
HUSTLE HILL - displayed poor barrier manners. Broke early stages. Broke 600 metres.
BELMONT'S GREATEST - slow to begin.
YGRITTE - slow to begin. Broke early stages. Broke nearing the 800 metres. Driver J Campbell was spoken to advisedly for the manner in which he addressed the barrier strand.

THE PERSUADER - briefly placed in restricted room racing into the first bend.
ALEXY - raced wide early stages. Held up leaving the final bend.
SPINNAKER - raced wide early stages.
AYMAR - raced wide early stages. Over-raced in the middle stages.
CHIEF KAPAI - raced wide early stages.
THE KAIK - out of position at dispatch. Driver N Purdon admitted a breach Rule 857(7)(g) in that he failed to come up and maintain his position behind the mobile and was fined $100 by the JCA. Shifted inwards throughout the home straight. Mr Purdon was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the home straight.
DON PIERRE - broke after 100 metres losing several lengths. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
 
Race 10 MORRISONS SADDLERY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BOOSTER - gave ground final bend.
TOP BRASS - briefly placed in restricted room near the 600 metres and had to be steadied.
BIG IS GOOD - over-raced in the middle stages. Raced four wide from the 700 metres. Hung inwards near the 600 metres. Continued to hang inwards rounding the final bend before weakening.
BEST DEFENCE - late scratching at 10.25am on veterinary advice. A veterinary clearance is required prior to resuming.
EJA PATRON - broke near the 2100 metres. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Held up near the 400 metres.
GOING TO CALIFORNIA - raced keenly rounding the first bend.
EXTREME GUEST - late scratching at 8.40am due to being sold.
EXPRESSO MARTINI - claimed by T Gow after a ballot.
REMISS - broke in the score up losing all chance. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts. Stood down to complete one trial. Trainer B Hill advised the mare would be retired from racing.
