Trainers were advised that mudguards would be required for Races 1 - 5.

Pre-race blood testing was carried out on selected runners.

Prior to Race 6 the track was upgraded to Good.

Race 7 - SPECTATORS BAR & BISTRO ADVERTISES IN METROPOL MOBILE TROT
Trainer C Butt has advised Stewards that after racing at Addington in early December, CRADDOCK was found to be suffering from a throat complaint with this since being treated.

Race 1 - AVON CITY FORD MOBILE PACE
Co-trainer M Purdon has advised Stewards that AUGUSTA(AUS) has recovered well since its disappointing performance at Addington last week with Mr Purdon adding that the gelding was not suited to doing a lot of work during the race. He added that AUGUSTA(AUS) has had a quiet week and will resume early next month.
Race 4 - JUDE PARKER PENSION PARTY MOBILE PACE
Trainer S Dolan has advised Stewards that VINNY GAMBINI has shown no abnormalities following its performance at Addington last week with blood tests clear. Mr Dolan added that the gelding will now be sent for a spell.
Rangiora HRC - Sunday, 18th December 2016
Race 6 - JACK BEHRNS MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
Trainer T Butt has advised Stewards that THE BEST BEG has recovered well following its disappointing run at Rangiora with Mr Butt of the opinion that the gelding was not suited to the grass track, adding that THE BEST BEG will continue with its current preparation.
Co-trainer G Hope has informed Stewards that tests carried out on WESTAR BELLA following its disappointing performance at Rangiora last weekend have revealed that the mare was suffering from severe tie-up. WESTAR BELLA is now being treated for this and has been sent for a brief spell in consequence.
Race 8 - RANGIORA NEW WORLD SUMMER CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
Co-trainer K Barron has advised Stewards that following its disappointing performance at Rangiora on Sunday, blood tests were taken from MIGHTY FLYING MAJOR with these tests revealing severe tie-up. This is now being treated with the gelding being aimed for a resumption at Motukarara next Thursday.

Race 1 MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM TELTRAC COMMUNICATIONS LTD MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
MUSCLES GALORE - trotted roughly throughout the final straight.
CHEVRON EXPRESS - contacted sulky stays with ARNOLD near the 75 metres when that runner shifted outwards. Driver D Dunn reported this had no bearing on his chances.
ABBYS DELIGHT - out of position at the candy pole. Co-trainer/driver P Wakelin advised the mare had raced greenly and was reluctant to improve its position. Miss Wakelin added it was her intention to restrict the horse to standing start races. Cast a boot near the 800 metres.
ARNOLD - shifted outwards under pressure over the final stages despite the efforts of driver B Orange.
GEOFFREY P - Trainer M Perriton warned for failing to fit mudguards. Raced wide until reaching the parked position near the 900 metres. Cast a plate near the 1300 metres. Trotted roughly in the middle stages. Hung inwards under pressure final bend.
DRAGONS SISTER - raced wide early stages. Broke near the 250 metres.
TOPNOTCH TITAN - broke after 150 metres.
ONE OVER DA STARS - slow in the early stages of the score up and was back several lengths at the start. Broke racing into the first bend losing its chance.
SHAY SCOTT - broke in the score up losing all chance.

ONE OFF - began awkwardly.
ROZZANO - broke at the start.
MOSSDALE NIGEL - slow to begin.
WALL STREET WOLF - broke at the start.
PIECE OF CAKE - Trainer G Smith warned for failing to fit mudguards. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.
RAINY RIVER - hung outwards in the middle stages.
ELLMERS HOOFING IT - held up for clear racing room in the home straight.
MY WEE MAN - broke at start.
CAESAR'S QUEST - slow to begin. Hung outwards and ran wide near the 400 metres and throughout the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.

BELLA JONES - held up final bend and in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
MISSINMEMATE - broke shortly after the start checking trailing runner. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Gave ground final bend.
FLASHING DIAMOND - raced keenly in the middle stages.
MIGHTY EMPIRE - raced wide in the early stages. Over-raced in the middle stages after being restrained to obtain cover. Driver S Payne reported he sustained a punctured tyre as a result of MIGHTY EMPIRE striking his sulky wheels.
BIRD OF PARADISE - Trainer B Ward warned for failing to fit mudguards.
ICE CRUSHER - Trainer M Jones warned for failing to fit mudguards. Checked shortly after the start. Hung inwards near the 1100 metres when improving three wide. Driver M Anderson, assisted by S Golding, admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) alleging he had used his whip in an excessive manner throughout the final 400 metres. After hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $350.
HIGHVIEW ILLUSION - out of position at the candy pole. Driver A Fitzgerald issued with a warning. Stewards will speak with driver A Fitzgerald in the coming days regarding the run of this horse.
MIGHTY AMERICAN - when spoken to regarding the performance of the gelding, driver K Cox advised she had been disappointed with its efforts. A post-race veterinary examination showed some chaffing on the near side hip.
 
Race 4 SUE NICHOLSON DINNER AT ADDINGTON 24 FEBRUARY PACE Video  Video 
BUZKIL - broke at the start. Hung inwards in the early stages of the home straight.
CULLEY BACKY - held up for clear racing room throughout the home straight.
SPARKLING DELIGHT - Trainer G O'Reilly warned for failing to fit mudguards. Broke at the start.
RAUKAPUKA RULER - badly held up final bend.
JUST BEN - badly held up final bend.
MRS BROWN'S BOY - gave ground on the final bend and when doing so made contact with several track markers. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver J Cox explained the gelding had not responded well to a change in its training regime where its workload was decreased and would look to change this prior to racing at Nelson. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LYDIA KO - improved four wide from the 700 metres.
GUNPOWDER - trainer B Hutton was issued with a Minor Infringement Notice and fined $100 after presenting the gelding to race without the notified blinds.
HESA DAZZLER - slow to begin. Travelled lethargically for the final 1200 metres. Weakened near the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. A warning was placed on the horse's racing performance.
 
Race 5 FARMLANDS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
DEVA JONES - trotted roughly in the early stages. Trotted roughly passing the 1200 metres. Gave ground final bend.
CONROCK - broke with 1500 metres to run. Gave ground passing the 600 metres.
LITTLE MO - held up early stages of the home straight.
SUNDONS FLYER - held up final bend.
DUSKY EYRE - broke after 100 metres.
ASTRAPI - broke passing the 50 metres.
FREE BIRD - broke near the 2100 metres. Broke with 1700 metres to run.
 
Race 6 WOODLANDS STUD - SWEET LOU MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
STOP MEANS STOP - raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up leaving the final bend and in the early stages of the home straight.
NELLIE FRANCO - gave ground final bend.
WEBBY VANDERQUACK - hung inwards near the 200 metres.
AVEROSS FERRARI - hung in the score up and in consequence was out of position at the start.
TOLL GATE - weakened final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver S Payne advised the gelding was unsuited to leading and in future when circumstances permit would be driven with cover.
AZALEA - raced roughly near the 1400 metres for a short distance when awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of TOLL GATE. Regarding this incident, driver H Jerard was spoken to advisedly. Trainer J Gameson advised it was his intention to make gear changes.
SMOLDERING ASHES - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Held up final bend.
CULLENZ DIAMOND - hung inwards early stages of the home straight.
NGATIRA - late scratching at 4.56pm on veterinary advice after being injured en-route to the course. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to the mare resuming.
 
Race 7 PASCOES THE JEWELLERS HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT - broke at the start.
ONE BIG FELLA - broke at the start.
CHAPTER ONE - sustained a punctured tyre leaving the final bend.
MR WOODLEA - broke at the start.
HOPEFUL HARRIET - broke at the start. Raced keenly middle stages.
SMITHY - raced keenly when leading in the middle stages. Weakened on the final bend. When spoken to regarding the gelding's performance, driver C Thornley advised the horse had over-raced throughout and in his opinion had probably choked down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 8 PEEK EXHIBITION MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
BK DAWN - Co-trainer P Wakelin advised the mare would be racing in season. Hung outwards in the run home with driver P Wakelin having some difficulty shifting the mare into the passing lane once a run was presented near the 150 metres.
DEBANEYRE - raced wide in the early stages. Held up early stages of the home straight.
GALLEONS ROYALE - raced wide in the early stages.
CUDDLY JESS - held up in the early stages of the home straight.
BET PRAY LOVE - Stewards questioned driver C Thornley regarding an incident near the 150 metres where for several strides he was awkwardly positioned near the sulky of BET PRAY LOVE when both runners shifted outwards. Mr Thornley explained that his runner had raced greenly and shifted ground when being eased wider causing him to take corrective measures to avoid locking wheels with the improving CUDDLY JESS. After considering his explanation and reviewing the films, the matter was taken no further.
FORGOT TO REMEMBER - weakened final bend.
 
Race 9 CHRISTCHURCH CASINO MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
UNICO ENCHANTRESS - sustained a punctured sulky tyre racing towards the first bend. Gave ground final bend.
HIS ROYAL HARNESS - had difficulty leaving the pre-race circle due to poor barrier manners with a warning placed on its record. Checked first bend. Gave ground final bend.
LOCKED OUT OF HEAVEN - broke racing into the first bend after striking the wheel of UNICO ENCHANTRESS checking trailing runners. Driver C Butt admitted a charge issued under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly. After viewing the films and hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Mr Butt's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing on 29 December 2016 up to and including 15 January 2017 (5 days).
TIME TRAVELLER - checked first bend.
KITURA - had to shift wider on the first bend to avoid breaking runner.
PRETTY JANICE - had to shift wider on the first bend to avoid breaking runner.
DESPICABLE ME - had to shift wider on the first bend to avoid breaking runner.
OHOKA JIMMY - checked first bend. Held up final bend.
LETSGOTOTHEHOP - checked first bend. Stewards spoke with driver J Curtin regarding his decision to improve to the lead near the 1200 metres which was in contrast to how he advised last week that the horse is best suited to racing. Mr Curtin advised that he had intended to race in the trailing position however due to UNICO ENCHANTRESS sustaining a punctured sulky tyre, the circumstances dictated that he alter his tactics.

GERALD - out of position at the candy pole. Driver C DeFilippi fined $100 by the JCA for failing to be in position.
SHANTAHLIA ROMEO - held up final bend.
AVEROSS RUSTLER - held up final bend.
JOEY MAGUIRE - raced wide without cover throughout. Gave ground from the 500 metres.
HANDLEBAR HANK - broke over the concluding stages.
