Pre-race blood testing was carried out on selected runners.

Driver J Morrison advised Stewards in the morning he had injured his ankle and would be unable to drive.
He was replaced as the driver of HESTIA FRANCO in Race 10 by R Close.

Driver M Edmonds was an authorised change of driver on STAR PRIDE in Race 1 due to an administration error.

Race 6 - GRAPHITE DEVELOPMENTS LTD FUTURITY CONSOLATION MOBILE PACE
Co-trainer T Chmiel has advised Stewards that blood tests taken from LAYTONS CRUSADER following its disappointing performance at Addington last week have shown no irregularities. Mr Chmiel added that the gelding is having a brief freshen up and will return to trials or workouts before resuming.

Race 1 KENNY MOORE - CLEAN UP CANTERBURY TROT Video  Video 
NATIVES BRITE GEM - broke at the start.
IZMOK - hung inwards final bend and lost ground. Trotted roughly near the 300 metres. Stewards questioned driver C DeFilippi as to whether he could have made a better effort to hold his position in the trail near the 2300 metres, instead conceding ground and in consequence his position to the improving SUNNY CJ. Mr DeFilippi explained that his gelding was very inexperienced and had skied its head on two occasions prior to this incident. As a result he was reluctant to urge his horse forwards instead electing to keep a firm hold of his runner. Mr DeFilippi added that at this stage of the horse's career he was unable to be placed under any considerable pressure. The comments of Mr DeFilippi were noted.
SHONA MARY - broke at the start and stumbled veering outwards. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the trainer's request.
MAGNAFIQUE - checked at the start by a breaking runner.
BRYLIN ROSE - The connections advised the mare would be racing in foal.
NO FEARS - broke at the start. Broke again on several occasions during the running.
TOPNOTCH TITAN - broke at the start.
LOLA LEIGH - broke at the start.
SHEER CLASS - broke at the start.
PRINCESS HARBOUR - hampered in the early stages and got back as a result.

MAGIC BLAZE - had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the final straight.
RETURNTOROCKNROLL - The connections advised the mare would be racing in foal.
ALL BLING - broke shortly after the start.
OKAINS BAY - broke at the start.
HANDSOME HERO - hung outwards shortly after the start when inconvenienced by the breaking ALL BLING.
CAITLIN FRANCO - held up throughout the run home. Driver K Butt advised the removable deafeners had not been activated.
ROZZANO - raced greenly for a short distance near the 1850 metres and had to be steadied when awkwardly positioned near the sulky of LILAC REIGN.
 
Race 3 BISHOPDALE/BUSH INN TAB'S & TAVERN HAREWOOD PACE Video  Video 
RUN BOY RUN - shifted inwards near the 100 metres having to be steadied for a short distance.
PEMBROOK EXPRESS - held up with 500 metres to run.
YOUNEEDABITOFMUSCLE - broke at the start.
KOTARE MIST - held up rounding the final bend.
FINE SOPHIE - broke at the start.
PIECE OF CAKE - hung inwards in the early stages of the run home.
CORENA LEA - broke briefly at the start. Hung outwards throughout the middle stages.
ONE OFF - broke near the 200 metres after being restrained to avoid the weakening SENORITA MARGARITA.
CAVALIER BROMAC - broke at the start.
SENORITA MARGARITA - broke at the start. Weakened passing the 400 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver B Orange explained the filly had been forced to work too hard in the middle stages to take up a forwards position after losing some ground in a gallop at the start. The connections advised that it was their intention to restrict the horse's racing to mobile start events if possible.
SPECIAL CHANGE - broke after 150 metres. Hung inwards on the final bend and broke under pressure near the 450 metres. Driver T Chmiel reported the filly had been unsuited to racing on the grass. Trainer N McGrath informed Stewards the filly would be restricted to racing on all weather tracks in the immediate future.
 
Race 4 GARRY THOMPSON - FERN LAW MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
THE EDGE OF REASON - held up rounding the final bend.
RED RIVER LOCHEE - A false start was declared when RED RIVER LOCHEE broke inconveniencing 2nd line runners. Driver C Thornley elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Held up rounding the final bend.
BONTZ - held up rounding the final bend.
MACH'S TERMINATOR - Trainer P Burrows advised the gelding had some issues with windgalls during the week however did not believe this would affect the horse's performance. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
EASTWOOD CHIEFTAIN - when spoken to regarding the improved performance of the gelding, caretaker trainer G Hope explained the gelding had derived considerable benefit from being trained on the beach and had taken natural improvement from its two runs back from a spell.
BETTOR BE SMOOTH - had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early stages of the run home.
BANZIE - broke in the score up of the re-start and was a distance back at the start.
 
Race 5 TAGGART EARTHMOVING LTD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SPINATALE - Trainer K Collins advised the mare had been in season.
OMIHI EL - Stewards will question driver C R Thornley in the coming days regarding an incident near the 450 metres.
LAKEISHA - over-raced middle stages.
HUMMER BROMAC - had to be steadied near the 1300 metres due to an easing of the pace.
IREBY MEG - raced wide in the early stages.
MAC TODDY - hung in the score up and as a result was a short distance out of position at the start. Improved wide near the 700 metres. Weakened near the 400 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver B Orange advised the mare had been unsuited to improving wide for a considerable distance on the final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MISSMATCH - briefly hampered near the 350 metres and became held up for a short distance.
JUNIOR - raced roughly passing the 1500 metres and broke when there was an easing of the pace.
 
Race 6 JACK BEHRNS MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
WESTAR BELLA - weakened over the final stages. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver R May was unable to offer any explanation other than he had been disappointed with the mare's efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. The connections reported it was their intention to have her scoped in the coming days and would notify the Stewards of any irregular findings.
LITTLE ROCKET - broke passing the 250 metres.
THE BEST BEG - when spoken to regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, driver K Butt could only advise she had been disappointed with the gelding's efforts. The connections reported they would have blood tests taken in the coming days and undertook to notify Stewards of the results. A post-race veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities.
YGRITTE - broke leaving the final bend.
GALLEONS ROYALE - held up throughout the run home.
SOLAR STORM - removed from the unruly for future standing starts.
 
Race 7 MATT BLAIR MOTORS PACE Video  Video 
TAITTINGER ROSE - reared and shifted outwards as the start was effected losing considerable ground.
ALSA LUSTRE - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
GLENFERRIE CLASSIC - began awkwardly. Raced roughly when being taken forwards to lead near the 2300 metres.
 
Race 8 RANGIORA NEW WORLD SUMMER CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
JOEY MAGUIRE - inconvenienced near the 1700 metres and had to shift wider.
PAY ME VISA - broke briefly approaching the 2400 metres when being taken forwards three wide. Hung inwards and broke near the 1700 metres losing ground. Held up throughout the run home. The gelding returned to the birdcage with a broken front carrier. This gear was inspected by Stewards and found to be in good order.
HERE WE GO AGAIN - inconvenienced near the 1700 metres and had to shift wider. Eased out of the race near the 400 metres with a broken front carrier. This gear was inspected by Stewards and found to be in good order.
CLASINA MARIA - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Held up throughout the run home.
MIGHTY FLYING MAJOR - driver B Orange advised the gelding had felt lethargic throughout and he had been very disappointed with the performance. The connections advised they would have blood tests taken in the coming days and undertook to notify the results to Stewards.
STROKE OF LUCK - slow in the early stages. Hampered soon after the start losing further ground.
IMOLA - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
JERRY GARCIA - hampered near the 400 metres.
 
Race 9 NORTH CANTERBURY TROTTING HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
FREE BIRD - broke with 300 metres to run.
TWELVE MONKEYS - broke with 2100 metres to run.
STYLISH DUKE - broke with 2100 metres to run. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until it was confirmed the gelding had not been in breach of the Breaking Horse Regulations.
AILE ROUGE - driver R Holmes reported only one sliding blind had activated.
ZACHARY BINX - inconvenienced near the 2100 metres.

BUCKEYE - fractious behind the barriers. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Driver J Geddes admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip in excess of ten times over the final 400 metres and was fined $300 by the JCA.
ICE CRUSHER - broke at the start.
MOTU LIGHTNING LASS - placed in restricted room in the early stages when runners either side shifted ground.
CHAMPAGNE REIGN - broke at the start.
BENJI MARA - broke at the start.
ROCKNROLL NEVIN - raced roughly shortly after the start.
PRECIOUS SARA - fractious behind the barriers. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Raced roughly after 100 metres. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced roughly near the 1100 metres and broke for a short distance losing ground.
FATIMA SIAD - broke at the start.
OUR QUINN - hampered by breaking runners at the start.
BUFFY BAY - hampered by breaking runners at the start.
 
Race 11 RANGIORA HARNESS RACING 8th JANUARY ON THE GRASS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
RED RANGER - checked at the start.
IT'S ALL OVER NOW - heavily checked at the start losing considerable ground.
THE NANS MAN - broke shortly after the start. Shifted inwards abruptly checking several horses. This gelding will now be drawn unruly and must return to the trials to be cleared by a Steward from a mobile start. Raced fiercely near the 1200 metres proving uncontrollable for a short distance having to be shifted wider on the track. The connections advised that they would no longer be persevering with the gelding.
BIRD OF PARADISE - broke briefly shortly after the start. Broke when shifting ground inwards near the 300 metres. Again broke near the 100 metres when held up for clear racing room.
BONNIE JOAN - had to be restrained near the 250 metres when held up and placed in restricted room when attempting a marginal run to the inside of CLAUS.
JEMA JET - checked at the start and had to shift ground inwards.
BELLA JONES - checked at the start losing ground. Raced roughly entering the first bend.
ONE BIG FELLA - Trainer N McGrath was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the gelding with blinds that had not been notified.
