MRS ZIPPY - Driver S Abernethy was questioned by Stewards in regard to his driving tactics on this filly. MRS ZIPPY was racing in the lead down the back straight the last time and was inclined to shift ground outward. Approaching the final bend Driver S Abernethy activated gear and drifted out which allowed the trailing DIAMOND PRINCE to improve on his inside. Mr Abernethy explained that the horse was inclined to run out and because of the track's loose nature he believed he was in the better going. Stewards inspected the track surface in this vicinity and found that it was loose to the inside as it was two and three wide. The Club was instructed to attend to this matter to improve the track surface for the second day of this meeting. Mr Abernethy was advised that Stewards noted his explanation on this occasion but there should not be a repeat of allowing a runner to improve to his inside.
TEXAS RULER - Trainer B Hutton was fined $100 for presenting the gelding without the notified blinds. Inclined to sky its head over the initial stages of the race. Inside the 600 metres hung inward, paced roughly then stopped. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had bled from the lungs following an endoscopic examination. The gelding was declared ineligible for a period of 30 days under Rule 213(1)(i). This horse requires a veterinary certificate of fitness including a scope before resuming following the stand down period and must complete one satisfactory trial.
