NZ Metro TC - Friday, 23rd September 2016
Race 5 - HARAS DES TROTTEURS HANDICAP TROT
Horseman Brad Williamson (MONTY PYTHON) was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove near the 2100 metres when making little effort to hold his position behind the leader, BORDEAUX, which consequently caused him to lose the trail and also enabled ALLEY WAY to shift inwards and take up a position near the pylons. Mr Williamson explained that MONTY PYTHON was a horse which raced too keenly in its races which restricted its ability to finish races as competitively as expected. He said that due to racing up in grade he had drawn well and been able to take up a forwards position. He added that approaching the first bend the speed was considerable which had meant his runner was not over-racing and he was reluctant to urge his horse as he felt it likely the horse would then take the bit and commence to over-race. Mr Williamson said that because of the rise in class of the field it was in his best interests to keep the horse relaxed, despite the cost of conceding one position in the field. In assessing and considering his explanation Stewards noted the following; MONTY PYTHON is a horse that frequently over-races, he was racing significantly higher classed horses than the recent fields he had encountered and that at the time of this incident BORDEAUX was dictating a 28.5 second quarter. For these reasons Stewards deem that the actions of Mr Williamson were not deliberate in an attempt to assist ALLEY WAY nor had they prejudiced the chances of his runner and in the circumstances were not unreasonable. Mr Williamson will be advised that no further action will be taken.
