Race 9 - KAIAPOI CLUB HANDICAP TROT
Stewards have concluded their investigation into the handling of COCKTAIL WAITER over the final stages by Horseman B Crothers. Mr Crothers advised that despite his efforts throughout the run home his runner had lay inwards and proved difficult. He added that the gelding had trotted indifferently inside the final 300 metres but notwithstanding this he had tried his runner with the whip passing the 200 metres. He said his gelding had not responded to these urgings and continued to lay inwards and trot roughly. Mr Crothers submitted that at this point he felt it in his best interests to cease in his urgings as when previously in similar situations the horse had broken and lost its chance. After considering the evidence of Mr Crothers and reviewing races, both previous and subsequent to this raceday, Stewards accepted the comments of Mr Crothers but advised him that in future should any occurrence arise that limits his ability to drive a runner out he was to notify Stewards immediately.
