With about 20 metres remaining GIMMEGOLD and WAR HORSE locked sulky wheels causing Mr Quate to further restrain his gelding.
The all clear was delayed when T Quate as the driver of WAR HORSE (placed 4th) lodged a protest against the 3rd placing of GIMMEGOLD (J Hay) alleging the run to which he was entitled had been taken in the early stages of the run home when GIMMEGOLD shifted inwards which resulted in him being unable to gain clear racing room throughout the final straight. After considering the submissions of Mr Quate, assisted by T Chmiel, Mr Hay and Stewards, the protest was upheld by the JCA with the 3rd and 4th placings reversed. Subsequently Mr Hay admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) and the Passing Lane Regulation (6), in that he allowed GIMMEGOLD to move inwards into the passing lane when he had an unimpeded run to the finish line.
