Race 3 - MAZDA CX3 MOBILE PACE
Trainer G Bates has informed Stewards that following its performance at Forbury Park last week, blood tests taken from RICO GOLD showed that the gelding was suffering from muscle tie-up. This has now been treated and RICO GOLD has continued its preparation for a start at Ashburton this weekend.

Race 1 JUST ESSENCE CATERING TROT Video  Video 
JEDDY R YA READY, THANKSFORNOTHING and YOUNG CHARLIE all broke at the start.
PEGASUS HANOVER broke after approximately 100 metres. PEGASUS HANOVER again broke near the 1800 metres.
MAJESTIC PEAK broke briefly passing the 1400 metres and again near the 1300 metres. MAJESTIC PEAK again broke passing the 300 metres.
Driver M Williamson (MADABOY) reported that due to his gelding trotting roughly he had not activated the removable deafeners.
 
Race 2 WASHINGTON VC FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The boring pole was removed from FLYIN SUE after the mare warmed up unfavourably during its preliminary.
FLYIN SUE paced roughly in the score up and over raced in the middle stages.
BULLYS PRINCESS raced wide in the early stages before being taken forward to race in the parked position passing the 1600 metres.
FLYIN SUE shifted outwards when under pressure on the final bend causing the improving ASHI JETSUN to be taken wider.
AFRO DIZZY YAK was held up for a short distance near the 300 metres.
Driver R McIlwrick reported that he had not activated the removable deafeners on the winner, CLIFTON TACTIC.
 
Race 3 CONGRATULATIONS HIGHLANDERS ALL BLACKS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GOTTA DEL was inclined to hang inwards when attempting to improve its position rounding the first bend.
THE SLEEPER raced fiercely when positioned to the outside of the leader throughout the middle stages and then compounded passing the 1000 metres inconveniencing BEAUDIENE GAMBLER, PORT HANOVER and SILVER DALE who all had to shift wider on the track. Driver K Butt (THE SLEEPER) reported that her sulky tyre had deflated near the 900 metres free of interference. A post race veterinary examination of THE SLEEPER revealed no obvious abnormalities, with Stewards placing a warning on the geldings racing record.
SUPERMOSHI weakened on the final bend and hung inwards when under pressure striking several pylons. When questioned regarding the performance of his mare Driver R Close could only advise that he had been disappointed with her efforts. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with Trainer A Stuart regarding the recovery of SUPERMOSHI in the following days.
Trainer A Stuart has advised Stewards that SUPERMOSHI has recovered well since its disappointing performance at Forbury Park last week with blood tests showing no abnormality. Mr Stuart added that he has stepped up the workload in training for the mare this week in preparation for racing at Nelson this weekend.
 
Race 4 STUNIN CULLEN FORBURY SPRINT SERIES HEAT 1 MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Near the 850 metres RAPHOE got its head up and raced keenly for several strides.
PULLING THE STRINGS raced three wide throughout.
HUDSON SULLY was held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
Racing past the 40 metres RAPHOE had to be steadied for a short distance when racing in restricted room between MACHINEGUN KELLY and FLUSHING MEADOWS. Driver E Swain (FLUSHING MEADOWS) was spoken to and advised that in future, it was expected he make a greater effort to maintain a straight course.
Driver K Larsen (RISK FACTOR) was spoken to by Stewards regarding his use of the whip in the run home.
 
Race 5 PRYDE'S EASIFEED HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
RUBY'S JEWEL raced roughly through the early stages and settled back in the field in consequence.
THE JINJA NINJA switched to a pace after 100 metres and had to be corrected by Driver N Williamson, with the mare losing its chance.
After 150 metres RUBY'S JEWEL broke losing considerable ground.
HAZEL ALICE was taken forward to lead near the 2000 metres and from this point onward raced greenly with the mare being inclined to lay outwards and shift wider on the track. Driver D Dunn was unable to offer any explanation on the mares racing manners. A post race veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities and a warning was placed on the mares racing record.
BOBBINS was held up on the final bend and had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home. Driver M Williamson advised that he had not activated the mares removable deafeners.
 
Race 6 DUNEDIN CITY MOTORS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
PEMBROOK HARRY broke shortly after the start and had to be steadied by Driver J Dunn. Stewards placed a warning on the geldings barrier record. PEMBROOK HARRY then got its head up and raced keenly through the early and middle stages.
SHINEY PRINCESS hung inwards throughout the running striking several pylons on the first bend.
LILLY JONES over raced when parked through the middles stages.
 
Race 7 THE PARK FUNCTION & EVENTS CENTRE TROT Video  Video 
SCOTTIE TROUBLE broke shortly after the start and shifted inwards abruptly making heavy contact with SUNDONS FLYER, which broke, causing the respective Drivers S Walkinshaw and B Orange to become unbalanced in their sulky's. In consequence to this, FLURRY was checked into a gallop with all three runners losing significant ground. Stewards placed a warning on the barrier record of SCOTTIE TROUBLE.
POPPA DON broke briefly near the 1950 metres.
Passing the 1900 metres CHEEKY PAT and SCARLETT LANE broke with these runners losing their chance.
YGRITTE which was leading, broke near the 700 metres. Driver D Dunn reported his mare had been hanging prior to galloping.
SUNNY DEMON broke passing the 300 metres.
Driver R McIlwrick reported BELMONT INVASION to have raced roughly over the final stages resulting in him being restricted in his urging's with the gelding.
When questioned with regards to the improved performance of POPPA DON Co-Trainer G Knight advised the gelding had derived considerable benefit from the application of sliding blinds to its gear. Mr Knight added the horse had also been better suited to being driven in a more conservative manner.
 
Race 8 RICOH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The near side quick hitch on SHARDS HALO came adrift during the running.
CULLER CODED was held up in the final stages of the run home.
 
Race 9 NEXT MEETING 9TH JUNE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SPIRIT OF CHRONOS and HARRY MAC both over raced in the middle stages.
ARDEN'S CONCORD had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight, with Driver R McIlwrick advising that because of this he had not activated the sliding blinds.
Driver B Williamson (OSSESSIONE) advised the gelding had been striking the wheel disks which had caused it to over race and proved slightly disappointing over the final stages.
 
Race 10 FORBURY PARK CLAIMERS SERIES HEAT 1 MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
EJA PATRON gave ground from the 500 metres.
MOTU SPEEDY STAR was held up on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
Stewards questioned Junior Horseman R McIlwrick regarding the manner in which he drove LAUGHING CAVALIER throughout the running. Stewards also requested a post race veterinary examination of LAUGHING CAVALIER which revealed no obvious abnormalities. After considering R McIlwrick's explanation, Stewards adjourned the matter to make further enquiries and give his drive further consideration.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of CIMARRON, Trainer W Low explained that in his opinion the gelding had received a perfect trip during the running when able to obtain cover in a race dictated by a strong tempo.
CIMARRON was claimed by C Smith. LAUGHING CAVALIER was claimed by G Milne.
Stewards have concluded an investigation into the manner in which R McIlwrick drove throughout upon LAUGHING CAVALIER. After considering all the evidence, with particular regards to the overall time and Mr McIlwricks actions through the middle stages, the Stewards will not be taking the matter any further other than to advise him that in future it was expected that in similar circumstances he should display a better level of judgement.
