Selected horses on tonight's programme were subjected to pre-race blood testing. Race 3 was delayed three minutes at the request of the TAB due to the delay in Race 2.

Race 2 - DIAMOND CREEK MOBILE PACE
Trainer L Hanrahan has advised Stewards that blood tests taken from CHRISTOPHER BANNER following its disappointing performance at Addington last weekend have shown no irregularity. Mr Hanrahan was of the opinion that the gelding may not have backed up following a hard trials run during the week. He added that CHRISTOPHER BANNER is now being given a brief freshen up and will line up at Ashburton on Queen's Birthday weekend.

Race 1 DIAMOND CREEK MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GUNPOWDER was inclined to lay outwards when negotiating the first bend.
BETTOR LUCK paced roughly rounding the final bend and lost ground.
MCCLINCHIE was held up in the early stages of the run home.
Driver S McNally (SCARLET FALCON) was cautioned to ensure his whip remains inside the confines of the sulky in future.
 
Race 2 CHRISTIAN CULLEN MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
A false start was declared when WEST POINT baulked behind the mobile and interfered with MELANIE OHARA which broke with JUNIOR being checked in consequence. Driver B Orange elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of WEST POINT.
There was a further delay to the start when the cart of ROYAL JESTER had to be replaced due to a flat tyre.
ROYAL JESTER was out of position at dispatch despite the urgings of driver L McKay.
AVEROSS FERRARI had a warning placed on its barrier record after it broke as the start was effected.
SMOKE N FIRE and FRANCO SAXON were obliged to race three wide through the early and middle stages.
JUST CHILLIN struggled to maintain its position with the field from the 800 metres.
MELANIE OHARA, AVEROSS FERRARI and HEIR POCKET all tired from the 400 metres.
SMOKE N FIRE and JUNIOR were held up in the early stages of the run home.
Driver G Smith (MELANIE OHARA) advised that the off side hopple shortener failed to release after the cord had broken.
After the race HEIR POCKET was found to be suffering from the thumps and was treated on course accordingly.
 
Race 3 PASCOES THE JEWELLERS TROT Video  Video 
WESTAR BELLA broke briefly at the start.
LIGHTWORKOFIT broke briefly at the start and was inclined to lay inwards rounding the final bend and throughout the run home where it also trotted indifferently with the removable deafeners not being activated on this gelding. Horseman D Burrows was reminded of his obligations to advise Stewards of this in the first instance in future.
ROLLIN THUNDER trotted awkwardly through the initial stages.
MOY and TUI NOVA broke shortly after the start.
SOUTH COASTER broke shortly after the start and again when negotiating the first bend losing its chance.
NO FEARS broke shortly after the start and again nearing the 850 metres.
BRITE N LOVELY was inclined to lay outwards throughout and commenced to tire from the 700 metres inconveniencing WESTAR BELLA.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of KING OF THE ROSES trainer/driver J Versteeg informed Stewards that tonight's field represented a significant drop back in class from its previous start. He added that the addition of sliding blinds to the gelding's gear had also been instrumental in improving its performance.
 
Race 4 FLAIR - FOR LADIES ADVANCING THE INTERESTS OF RACING PACE Video  Video 
CROFT BAY displayed poor barrier manners obliging the field to be turned away to reassemble. CROFT BAY continued to display poor barrier manners and was sent to the unruly position where it will remain for future standing starts.
SHE AINT SWEET AZ had a warning placed on its barrier record after it reared as the start was effected and shifted inwards making contact with VANHALEM resulting in this runner being inconvenienced. ANIKA LINDENNY was also inconvenienced through this and lost ground. SHE AINT SWEET AZ commenced to tire rapidly from the 600 metres finishing a distance from the winner. A post-race veterinary examination of this mare revealed a very poor recovery with the on course vet recommending blood tests be taken in the coming days which Stewards will follow up with trainer J Burrows.
ALANTIC hung inwards with 1800 metres to run and broke with 800 metres to run. Driver S Golding advised that the gelding had broken due to knocking a knee.
MIGHTY EMPIRE (K Butt) became awkwardly placed and made contact with the outside sulky wheel of JETSDREAM (L Lester) nearing the 600 metres with this tyre deflating. Stewards spoke with drivers L Lester and K Butt in regard to this and after viewing the films and taking into account submissions made by the drivers it was established that this incident occurred due to a slight easing of the pace simultaneously to Miss Butt improving outwards. Given this the matter was taken no further.
JEWELZ was held up in the early stages of the run home.
The all clear was delayed after Junior Horseman C Smith (VANHALEM) expressed his desire to view the start of this event to ascertain whether he had been denied a fair start. After viewing the films in the presence of Open Horseman M Kerr, Mr Smith elected not to proceed and payment of dividends was authorised.
Trainer J Burrows has advised that SHE AINT SWEET AZ which performed poorly at Addington last weekend has recovered well with its preparation continuing as planned.
 
Race 5 METROPOL - THE SHOWCASE MAGAZINE HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
TWELVE MONKEYS broke at the start impeding the running line of WILLIAM LANCE which also broke and lost a considerable amount of ground and was subsequently retired from the event.
LE LIEVRE'S GIFT paced away having to be checked into its correct gait by driver J Curtin.
YOUNG STRANGER over-raced through the early stages and trotted roughly nearing the 400 metres and throughout the run home.
Horseman C DeFilippi (CLOVER MAC) dropped his foot from the sulky rest momentarily nearing the 200 metres.
 
Race 6 ENJOY LINDAUER AT LADIES NIGHT MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
OONA broke in the score up with HEY YO being slightly out of position in consequence.
WE'LL MEET AGAIN hung inwards when obliged to race wide rounding the first bend with this mare breaking with 800 metres to run.
MADAM SPUR raced wide through the early stages.
GEE GEES INVASION broke with 1000 metres to run and again with 200 metres to run.
VENETO broke with 400 metres to run dislodging a pylon and failed to settle.
The all clear was delayed until driver J Cox (HEY YO) advised that he had not been denied a fair start due to the breaking of OONA in the score up.
 
Race 7 WESTFIELD RICCARTON STYLES STAKES - CUP DAY HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
IT'S ALL OVER NOW broke at the start.
SANS LE SOU broke at the start and then hung inwards from the 600 metres.
NERIDA FRANCO was inclined to lay inwards when racing round the bends.
HERE WE GO AGAIN was held up for clear racing room late in the run home with driver R May not activating the mare's sliding blinds.
Driver G Smith (KOTARE KASAI) was fined $100 by the JCA after admitting he drove with his foot out of the sulky rest nearing the 100 metres
 
Race 8 PASCOES THE JEWELLERS FFA MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
TIJUANA BROMAC hung inwards rounding the final bend.
AVEROSS RUSTLER tired from the 400 metres.
BOOMER BAILEY was held up throughout the run home.
Driver B Orange (FIFTH EDITION) dropped his foot from the sulky rest briefly when activating removable gear in the run home.
 
Race 9 BLUE STAR TAXIS PACE Video  Video 
TIROL'S ROCKET displayed poor barrier manners when addressing the barrier and then broke as the start was effected with a warning being placed on the gelding's barrier record.
DIOS DEL FUEGO broke at the start and ran outwards inconveniencing HANDSOME HERO. Given this gelding's recent indiscretions behind the barrier a final warning was issued.
CAPITAL PLAN also broke as the start was effected with a final warning placed on the gelding's barrier record.
C'EST L'HEURE was inclined to lay inwards throughout.
TERRIER tired rapidly from the 600 metres with a subsequent veterinary examination revealing no clinical abnormalities however the connections advised that they would be having blood tests taken in the coming days and notify Stewards should anything come of these that would explain the performance.
PEGASUS MERRILY tired rounding the final turn inconveniencing TUPELO MISSISSIPPI.
VUKONA hung outwards rounding the final bend when under pressure.
TUPELO MISSISSIPPI paced roughly and broke nearing the 150 metres.
Trainer K James has advised Stewards that following its disappointing performance at Addington last week, blood tests taken from TERRIER have revealed no abnormalities. Mr James further advised that TERRIER would return to workouts before resuming.
