Race Comments
Race 1 JACOBSEN HEADSTONES FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video
CHERRY BAY was two and a half lengths out of position at the start which inconvenienced REAZA GRUNTER on the second line. Shortly after the start Driver J. Dunn shifted this filly wider on the track with it racing wider round the first bend before settling midfield.
ATOMIC BETTY broke just prior to the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of this mare.
AYMAR broke shortly after reaching the lead racing into the first bend which caused a check to GOTTA GO PLAIN JANE which resulted in LINCOLNS SUPERSTAR and PLEASURABLE taking evasive action which in turn caused checks to KEEPERS ART and REAZA GRUNTER. A warning was placed on the racing manners of AYMAR.
REAZA GRUNTER was improved three wide approaching the 900 metres and failed to improve down the back straight giving ground approaching the 400 metres and was beaten 30 lengths. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. A warning was placed against this filly's race performance record.
Stewards questioned Driver J. Dunn in regard to the position of CHERRY BAY at the start. He stated that as the horse was under a warning from its previous start and that its manners behind the gate are suspect, he was inclined to hang back and when he asked the horse to go forward it paced erratically and ran out. Mr Dunn was reminded of his obligations. CHERRY BAY was declared unruly for mobile starts. The starter was also shown the video replay and spoken to advisedly.
Trainer K Barron has informed Stewards that following its disappointing performance at Auckland last week, blood tests were conducted on REAZA GRUNTER with these tests revealing that the filly was suffering from muscle tie up. This has been treated and Mr Barron reported that REAZA GRUNTER has since worked well in preparation for her engagement on Friday night.

Race 2 ALABAR MOBILE PACE Video  Video
AWESOME DUDE was inclined to lay in rounding the bends.
CHARLIE HARPER weakened from inside the 400 metres finishing well back.
LUCKY LUCIANO, which was well supported, raced three wide with cover from inside the last 700 metres and improved wide on the home bend, paced roughly and failed to run on.

Race 3 MAJESTIC HORSE FLOATS MOBILE TROT Video  Video
MOKOSUN lay in and trotted roughly in behind the mobile and over the early stages of the race. This gelding broke again approaching the 400 metres losing its chance.
MOB STAR broke passing the 100 metres.

Race 4 HURRICANE UMBRELLAS BY PEROS LTD FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video
Trainers Purdon and Rasmussen were charged a $25.00 colour fee for IMKE B.
RUNAWAY STAR raced three wide from inside the 1200 metres until improving to one out without cover at the 800 metres.

Race 5 BOULGARIS REALTY MOBILE PACE Video  Video
Driver N. Williamson was cautioned in regard to his drive on DEMOCRAT PARTY when over the concluding stages of the race he attempted to establish a run on the inside of the leader MY KIWI MATE with HUG THE WIND and LITTLE RASCAL on his inside being placed in restricted room resulting in LITTLE RASCAL jumping a pylon at the winning post.

Race 6 THE PAKURANGA HUNT LANDOWNERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video
Junior Driver S. Grayling, with the assistance of Senior Driver Z. Butcher, was cautioned for driving in a half carting position with NO APACHEMEE leaving the back straight and rounding the bend past the 1400 metres.
WALKINSHAW (favourite) was improved from three deep on the running line to race in the two wide line with 1200 metres to run and was then shuffled back to three back, one out down the back straight for the last time, raced four and then five wide rounding the final bend running on to finish 4th beaten 2.9 lengths.

Race 7 VETERINARY ASSOCIATES EQUINE & FARM MOBILE TROT Video  Video
JAG'S INVASION broke losing its chance approaching the 1400 metres. Drivers P. Butcher (REALMEIN), A. Herlihy (THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSON) and J. Dunn (JAG'S INVASION) were questioned regarding this incident. Mr Dunn advised that his horse's near fore leg contacted the wheel of the sulky of REALMEIN causing JAG'S INVASION to break and at the time he was cramped for room with REALMEIN to his outside and THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSON to his inside. Mr Herlihy explained that THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSON had contacted his own sulky wheel giving the gelding a fright and causing him to momentarily duck outwards resulting in the incident. Given the circumstances no further action was deemed necessary.
