At the restart WILMA'S MATE was back from position throughout the score up. When questioned regarding his position at the start driver D Butt advised that the filly had been trotting unevenly and had a tendency to shift up the track in the score up. Driver I Schwamm (SICILIAN SECRET) was questioned with regard to the manner in which he drove over the early and middle stages when three wide and in particular as to his reasons for failing to make a greater effort to restrain SICILIAN SECRET to take up a position closer to the marker line. Mr Schwamm stated that on entering the back straight it became apparent he would be unable to improve forward to secure the position outside the leader but he was reluctant to overly restrain his mare as he felt that it would over-race and compound the situation, so he elected to remain three wide at that stage. After considering his explanation Mr Schwamm was advised that he would be expected to exercise better judgement in future given similar circumstances.
