Race 8 - YALDHURST HOTEL NORTHERN SOUTHLAND CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
Junior horseman R McIlwrick assisted by senior horseman N Williamson defended a charge under Rule 868(2) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure TITAN BANNER finished in the best possible position. After viewing replays and considering the evidence from all parties the JCA found the charge proven and suspended Mr McIlwrick's licence to drive from the conclusion of racing on the 22nd of April up to and including the 8th of May. (4 days)

Trainer C Barron has advised Stewards that following its disappointing performance at Winton last week, SUMTHIN SPECIAL has been retired from racing.

Race 1 MCMILLANS PROTEIN PLUS SUPPORTING JONTY'S JOURNEY TROT Video  Video 
GRACE O'MALLEY broke racing into the first bend losing its chance.
BEST OF THE BUNCH broke near the 2000 metres losing considerable ground.
BELMONT INVASION raced wide from the 700 metres.
PHOEBE FLYER commenced to give ground from the 500 metres.
STARLIGHT INVASION hung inwards rounding the final bend striking several track markers.
BEAR'S REST broke with 150 metres to run.
GRACE LIGHTNING broke near the 80 metres losing its chance.
DIPENDRA trotted roughly throughout the run home.
GRACE O'MALLEY and BEST OF THE BUNCH were both cleared from the unruly for future standing start events.

Co-trainer G Knight admitted a breach of Rule 865(1) in that he was late notifying the gear for THE HIGH ACHIEVER and was fined $50 by the JCA.
RIGHTEOUS BROTHER broke briefly at the start losing ground with a warning being placed on the mobile barrier record of the gelding.
BETTOR TO BE TRICKY paced roughly for a short distance racing into the first bend.
THE LONE RANGER broke when leading passing the 1000 metres losing considerable ground and effectively all chance. A warning was placed against the racing manners record of THE LONE RANGER.
SERENGETI was inclined to lay inwards under pressure near the 250 metres and had to be straightened.
MONGOLIAN HERO shifted outwards under pressure nearing the winning line momentarily inconveniencing SERENGETI which had been inclined to lay inwards.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of GRAND RAINBOW co-trainer/driver M Purdon advised the gelding had traveled well during the running however had proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the run home. Stewards will follow up the recovery of GRAND RAINBOW with Mr Purdon in the coming days.
 
Race 3 FOVEAUX COMMUNICATIONS LTD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
JACCKA SPIRIT and ANYCHANCE paced roughly racing into the first bend.
BLACK ATHENA raced in restricted room rounding the first bend when inside HAVINARAVUP which was inclined to lay inwards.
ANYCHANCE lay outwards in the early stages of the run home.
When questioned regarding the performance of CHITTYBANGBANG driver B Orange advised that in his opinion the race was not run to suit the gelding which had proved disappointing when placed under pressure.
 
Race 4 MORE FM HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
LOVE STRUCK ROMEO broke with 400 metres to run briefly inconveniencing the trailing THE JINJA NINJA. Driver C Thornley advised that LOVE STRUCK ROMEO had struck a knee which in his opinion had contributed to the gelding breaking.
THE JINJA NINJA had difficulty obtaining clear racing room for the majority of the run home.
 
Race 5 OLPHERT CONTRACTING,PAINTING & PLASTERBOARD STOPPING MOB PCE Video  Video 
LUCIANO was back off the gate slightly at the start.
ANNIE FITZ raced keenly through the early stages with this mare being improved wide to obtain a parked position near the 1200 metres.
KEZZA'S LASS over raced and broke approaching the 1600 metres losing several lengths.
FRANCO JAMESON over raced for a short distance near the 1100 metres.
LUCIANO was held up rounding the final bend until near the 150 metres.

NIGHTMARCH was back off the gate at the start despite the efforts of driver R Swain.
HAPPY LOU hung inwards through the latter stages of the score up and as a result was out of position at the dispatch.
MAJOR BEN was back off the gate at dispatch, with driver M Purdon cautioned that he must make a greater effort to maintain his barrier position.
BLOW A CLOUD lay inwards near the 1200 metres striking a track marker.
KNOCKMANAUGH commenced to weaken inside the final 900 metres and was not persevered with thereafter. KNOCKMANAUGH underwent a post-race veterinary examination which included an endoscopic examination which revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
Race 7 bMAC SHEETMETAL 2005 LTD SOUTHERN COUNTRY CUPS FINAL (HCP) Video  Video 
EVEN FLO and DEVIL MAY CARE broke for several strides as the start was effected.
 
Race 8 NEVELE R STUD/MACCA LODGE SOUTHLAND OAKS FINAL (MOBILE PACE) Video  Video 
A false start was declared when ALLISON STOKKE broke in the score up checking the trailing ERIN JACCKA. Driver A Armour elected to remain in his allotted position for the restart. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of ALLISON STOKKE.
CLASINA MARIA was back off the gate at the dispatch, with the filly pacing roughly shortly after. Junior driver J Young was spoken to and advised that she is to make greater effort to maintain her position behind the mobile barrier.
MACKENZIE over raced through the middle stages.
MACKENZIE was held up for clear racing room until near the 300 metres.
Driver D Dunn reported he did not activate the sliding blinds on the winner NEK TIME due to having the field covered.
 
Race 9 ALABAR SOUTHERN SUPREMACY STAKES FINAL (MOBILE PACE) Video  Video 
MOONROCK raced wide in the early stages.
TAKITIMU EXPRESS commenced to give ground from the 700 metres and was not persevered with thereafter. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which revealed no obvious abnormalities.
TORRID BROMAC hung inwards through the early stages of the run home.
FIDDLETHEFOOL had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room through the early and middle stages of the run home.
CLASSIE BRIGADE lay in under pressure throughout the run home. Driver R May reported that CLASSIE BRIGADE had paced indifferently throughout the event. Stewards will follow up the recovery of CLASSIE BRIGADE with Trainer N McGrath in the coming days.
 
Race 10 SOUTH PORT INTERMODAL FREIGHT CENTRE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BENICIO paced roughly for several strides soon after the start.
ONEDIN ONYX over raced through the early and middle stages.
BENICIO and CAPTAIN DOLMIO brushed sulky stays over the concluding stages.
Driver M Williamson (ONEDIN ONYX) was advised to make a greater effort to keep his foot in the sulky footrest during the running.
 
Race 11 CADUCEUS CLUB OF SOUTHLAND MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ISOLA BELLA broke racing into the first bend and shifted outwards making contact with the outside sulky wheel of MY RONA GOLD. This resulted in checks to GUPTA'S CULLEN and SWEET AS which broke briefly. Trainer/driver K Larsen advised that ISOLA BELLA had struck a knee which in his opinion had contributed to the mare breaking.
ISOLA BELLA hung inwards near the 2300 metres forcing RAHURI BADLANDS over several track markers. ISOLA BELLA hung inwards for some distance thereafter.
BONNIE'S KHALEESI raced wide throughout.
DECEITNDESIRE raced four wide from the 700 metres.
SWEET AS paced roughly passing the 700 metres when having to steady due to an easing of the pace.
