Race 8 - REGENT CAR COURT MOBILE PACE
Stewards questioned driver P Hunter in relation to the breaking of HANNA'S BOY passing the 500 metres. Mr Hunter advised that he had locked wheels with FRANCO SHERBORNE which was commencing to tire. He further advised that the horses had been racing in tight quarters and that HANNA'S BOY was struggling at this stage of the race. After viewing the available video coverage of this incident the Stewards were unable to apportion any blame to any one horse or horseman with no further action deemed necessary.

Race 1 INVERCARGILL WORKOUTS COMMITTEE PACE Video  Video 
FRANCO JAMESON and HOT CHILLI broke at the start.
FLASHING ON was trapped wide in the early stages.
FRANCO JAMESON threw its head about and raced ungenerously with 1000 metres to run.
RAKSMACH was held up on the final bend.
SIX DIAMONDS and MCKENZIE MARA hung inwards approaching the 200 metres with both runners losing their momentum.
HAPPY LOU ran out of racing room over the concluding stages.
HOT CHILLI shifted inwards with 100 metres to run to obtain clear racing room.
MCKENZIE MARA hung throughout the running. When questioned regarding the performance of MCKENZIE MARA trainer/driver N Williamson confirmed the filly had hung during the running and that he would be making gear adjustments prior to MCKENZIE MARA racing next. Mr Williamson added that he was not overly disappointed with the performance especially given the sectionals for the final stages of the race.
When questioned regarding the performance of favourite SIMPLE PLEASURE driver C Barron advised he was disappointed with the effort however could offer no tangible excuse. The Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of SIMPLE PLEASURE which revealed the filly to have a slightly elevated heart rate.
 
Race 2 PGG WRIGHTSON 3-YEAR-OLD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
An information was lodged with the JCA alleging trainer B O'Meara presented OMAR SHARIF to race in this event with blinds and removable deafeners which were not notified. This matter was adjourned to a later date.
BETTOR ENFORCE paced roughly on the first bend.
ULTIMATE DESIRE (D Dunn) and TAKITIMU EXPRESS (J Cox) made contact on the first bend when TAKITIMU EXPRESS shifted ground outwards. When questioned regarding this driver J Cox advised that BETTOR ENFORCE which he was following, had paced roughly and as he had anticipated BETTOR ENFORCE was going to break he had shifted ground outwards to avoid that runner. After hearing Mr Cox's explanation no further action was required.
TACT ROUSEY commenced to over race and race greenly with 1200 metres to run when ULTIMATE DESIRE improved three wide on its outside.
Drivers S McNally (SCARLET FALCON) and J Cox (TAKITIMU EXPRESS) were reminded of their obligations in relation to the starting procedures.
 
Race 3 SHEET METALCRAFT LTD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The off side rein pricker was removed from CRACKAMOA prior to the start.
ROCKING ROBYN was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.14 pm after the gelding had become fractious while being paraded pre-race and received cuts and lacerations to its off hind cannon region. The connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to ROCKING ROBYN racing next. Trainer R Wilson advised ROCKING ROBYN would be sent for a spell and return to the trials prior to resuming racing.
FIERY FERRET broke in the score up and took no serious part in the event with a warning being placed on FIERY FERRET's mobile barrier manners.
JETENARA raced greenly when being restrained on the first bend.
LE STAR paced roughly with 1000 metres to run
LIKETHELOOK was denied clear racing room on the final bend and for the majority of the run home.
LUCAS received a punctured sulky tyre over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of CRACKAMOA driver D Dunn advised he believed the gelding had switched off when forced wide on the final bend and CRACKAMOA is best suited to receiving cover when improving its position.
 
Race 4 MORE FM HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
BEAR'S REST, DARK HORSE, SPACE ACE broke at the start with DARK HORSE losing its chance.
ANOTHER DELIGHT which had improved to the lead broke after approximately 200 metres.
GRACE O'MALLEY broke approaching the 2200 metre mark and again with 1300 metres to run.
SOUTHLAND REFLECTOR broke passing the 2200 metres.
ANOTHER CRUSHER hung throughout the running.
BEAR'S REST (S McNally) raced in restricted room and had to be restrained with 400 metres to run after ARMORI (G McLay) had shifted ground outwards. As a result BEAR'S REST made contact with the sulky wheel of RUBY'S JEWEL (B Williamson) which was improving wider on the track with the tyre and tube deflating on the sulky of RUBY'S JEWEL. After reviewing this incident the Stewards were satisfied ARMORI was entitled to shift ground outwards at this point. B Williamson was warned to ensure he gives runners to his inside sufficient room when racing in similar circumstances.
RUBY'S JEWEL broke passing the 200 metres.
ARMORI was held up through the early stages of the home straight.
Junior horseman R McIlwrick (GOLDEN GATE) was warned for failing to come up into line prior to the start.
GRACE O'MALLEY was placed on the Unruly for future standing start events at the request of trainer G Thomas.
Following this event the Stewards spoke to Starter Mr B Ward in relation to the unruly runners which had been parading some distance from the start point, were late coming into line and gaining momentum prior to the start.
 
Race 5 BRENDAN FRANKS FARRIER HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
Trainer D Baynes admitted a breach of Rule 865(2) in that he presented GALACTIC STAR to race in this event with removable deafeners which were not notified and was fined $100 by the JCA.
LIGHTNING FLIGHT and DOUBLE RAINBOW broke at the start.
TIGHT LIPPED raced wide over the early stages and gave ground from the 1200 metres. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of TIGHT LIPPED which revealed the gelding to be suffering from mild dehydration.
SHORTYS MATE struck pylons approaching the 800 metres when racing in restricted room to the inside of GALACTIC STAR.
AMERICAN SPIRIT hung inwards near the 200 metres.
 
Race 6 ARDEN LODGE ROBIN DUNDEE CROWN MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
A DAMN GOOD EXCUSE was caught wide through the early stages.
MYSISTERSASTAR raced wide throughout the event.
MY RONA GOLD raced keenly over the middle stages.
BOOTIE BROMAC was held up through the early stages of the run home.
MOTU MOONBEAM shifted outwards over the early stages of the run home when driver R McIlwrick activated the removable deafeners.
B D WINDERMERE (A Armour) drifted outwards in the home straight.
With approximately 50 metres to run MOTU MOONBEAM (R McIlwrick) hung inwards momentarily but was immediately straightened by driver R McIlwrick. As a result MY RONA GOLD (B Orange) had to be steadied. Authorisation of first placing being awarded to MOTU MOONBEAM was withheld until driver B Orange had viewed replays of the concluding stages. After viewing the footage Mr Orange elected not to proceed with a Protest and first placing was authorised.
Both R McIlwrick (MOTU MOONBEAM) and A Armour (B D WINDERMERE) were warned to ensure they maintain as straight a line as possible in the home straight.
REGENCY FRANCO was reported to have received a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
 
Race 7 SBS BANK MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
STATHAM raced wide before reaching the parked position near the 1700 metres.
GROOMSMAN shifted inwards shortly after straightening for the run home and had to be steadied.
 
Race 8 KINA CRAIG STUD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ALEXY raced keenly behind the mobile barrier and over the early stages.
BOLD RULER hung inwards on the first bend.
ALEXY was held up on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
ROXY DALE and TACTICAL VC were denied racing room on the final bend.
 
Race 9 ASCOT PARK HOTEL INVERCARGILL CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
DEVIL MAY CARE tangled away.
BELKMYSTER struck pylons on the first bend when racing in restricted room.
CULLECT A GUINNESS hung in the early and middle stages.
COSTA DEL MAGNIFICO which was racing keenly had to be steadied off the back of the leader CULLECT A GUINNESS passing the 200 metres.
BELKMYSTER paced roughly over the final stages.
 
Race 10 MCKNIGHT & BROWN HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes due to TROUBLE RIEU requiring farrier attention.
OCH AYE THE NOO reared when the tapes were released then broke shortly afterwards losing considerable ground.
HEARD THE WHISPER broke at the start and lost all chance.
JACCKA JACK broke briefly over the early stages.
TROUBLE RIEU trotted roughly then broke after 150 metres.
MOMENT OF SUN raced keenly through the early stages.
JAG'S INVASION trotted roughly with 1300 metres to run when improving three wide with the gelding breaking briefly approaching the 1000 metres. JAG'S INVASION was then obliged to race three wide without cover and continued to trot roughly with the gelding tiring on the final bend.
MOMENT OF SUN hung inwards and trotted roughly on the final bend.
MASS INVASION raced in restricted room when improving on the inside of MOMENT OF SUN with approximately 450 metres to run.
TROUBLE RIEU was held up on the home turn.
HEARD THE WHISPER and OCH AYE THE NOO were both retired from the event by their respective drivers B Orange and J Cox.
Junior horseman B Williamson with the assistance of Senior Horseman N Williamson was spoken to in relation to where the unruly runner SPRINGBANK EDEN had started from. Mr Williamson advised that the horses on the 10 metre mark had become disorganised prior to the tapes being released and he was unable to take up the position that he intended. After viewing the replays the Stewards were satisfied that there had been mitigating circumstances in relation to this with no further action required.
