Race 5 - AMERICAN IDEAL AT WOODLANDS STUD MOBILE PACE
Trainer L Hanrahan has advised Stewards that following its disappointing performance at Ashburton on 12 November, NOVAK was found to be suffering from dehydration. The gelding has since been treated and won a trial at Ashburton on 24 November in preparation for resumption at Methven on 6 December.

Trainer M Heenan advised Stewards that subsequent to its last start CULLEY BACKY was scoped and found to have a nasal discharge which has since been treated.

NATIVES LASTING LOVE broke at the start.
SPOTLIGHT THE VALLEY broke in the early stages checking BLOOD AND WHISKY and PRECIOUS MOMENT which also broke.
BEAR'S REST broke when leading near the 1300 metres inconveniencing MADAM SPUR.
DON'T LOOK BACK was briefly placed in restricted room by WESTY BOYZ near the 900 metres. Driver T Chmiel (WESTY BOYZ) was shown a replay and spoken to advisedly.
THE BEST BEG commenced to weaken near the 400 metres hampering the trailing MADAM SPUR. When questioned regarding the performance of THE BEST BEG, driver J Curtin advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a heart murmur, with trainer T Butt advising that he will be having an ultrasound examination of the heart taken with the results being forwarded to Stewards. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding resuming.
HEAVENLY LOVE broke passing the 300 metres.
MADAM SPUR was held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
DON'T LOOK BACK broke near the 150 metres losing its chance.
BEAR'S REST hung inwards throughout the run home.
 
Race 2 PYE GROUP MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
PERUVIAN LIGHTNING broke shortly after the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record.
PERUVIAN LIGHTNING again broke after 200 metres.
WOOLLEYS BAY hung outwards rounding the first bend and struggled to maintain contact with the body of the field for some distance thereafter.
ROZZANO paced roughly when negotiating the crossing near the 1250 metres.
KOTARE YAEL over-raced through the middle stages.
THE NANS MAN raced four wide from the 800 metres.
CAPTAIN POSKONNY gave ground on the final bend with the trailing PERUVIAN LIGHTNING being held up.
HE CAN FLY hung outwards and shifted up the track leaving the final bend, locking wheels with KOTARE YAEL with both runners losing momentum. A warning was placed on the racing record of HE CAN FLY.
ONEDIN HIGHLANDER, ROSTRIEVER VICTORY and LING ROWL were held up in the early stages of the run home.
Authorisation of 3rd placing being awarded to HE CAN FLY was withheld until driver J Dunn (KOTARE YAEL) had viewed a replay of the final bend and elected not to proceed with a protest.
 
Race 3 TEMUKA TRANSPORT FILLIES & MARES HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
CHEVRONS EASY, IT'S ALL OVER NOW, BREAK DANCE and ROYAL COUNSEL broke at the start, with CHEVRONS EASY being retired from the race.
ROYAL COUNSEL was inclined to hang inwards when improving three-wide near the 1300 metres.
GRIN AGAIN was briefly placed in restricted room near the 800 metres after TUAPEKA ART shifted ground outwards. Driver R Payne was shown a replay and warned to exercise care when shifting ground.
LIVE TO TELL and IT'S ALL OVER NOW gave ground on the final bend.
TWICE THE DELIGHT struck pylons rounding the final bend.
POCKET OF JEWELS was held up throughout the run home.
Stewards lodged a protest against 1st placing being awarded to ROYAL COUNSEL alleging that ROYAL COUNSEL had interfered with the chances of the 2nd placed MACKENZIE in the home straight. After viewing the replays and hearing from Junior Horseman M Anderson (MACKENZIE), assisted by Senior Horseman G Smith, T Chmiel (ROYAL COUNSEL) and Stewards, the JCA dismissed the protest.
Driver T Chmiel was charged with a breach of Rule 869(4) and the Home Straight Regulations in that he drove in a manner likely to cause interference in the home straight when allowing ROYAL COUNSEL to shift ground outwards. After viewing the replays and hearing from Stewards, the JCA upheld the charge with Mr Chmiel being fined the sum of $200.
 
Race 4 LYNN RIVER HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
Trainer R Holmes was issued with a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting TEHORO HOLLY to race without the notified pacifier.
The start of this event was delayed by 2 minutes due to the protest in the previous race.
K D MUSCLES, MISSIE CASTLETON and INSIGNIFICANT broke in the early stages.
YOUNG STRANGER broke after 200 metres, with the trailing AMARETTO SUN being hampered.
WILLIE SHINE broke near the 2200 metres.
GORILLA PLAYBOY struck several pylons on the final bend.
STAR COMMANDO, SHPEEDY, FATHER CHRISTMAS and K D MUSCLES were held up in the early stages of the run home.
GEE UP NEDDY broke near the 200 metres.
MISSIE CASTLETON and AMARETTO SUN were unable to obtain clear racing room throughout the home straight.
WILLIE SHINE trotted roughly in the run home.
 
Race 5 SIMPSON'S FLOORING XTRA & BURGERS BUTCHERY PACE Video  Video 
CHAMPAGNE REIGN broke at the start checking PEMBROOK HARRY and TORRID BROMAC with TORRID BROMAC breaking. A warning was placed on the standing start record of CHAMPAGNE REIGN.
PAY ME BETTOR'S also broke at the start.
COLLECTION raced fiercely near the 1800 metres before being shifted wider on the track to improve its position.
ILDIVO hung inwards when improving three wide near the 1500 metres.
The boring pole on JOEMARO broke passing the 1400 metres and hung loose from the bridle for the remainder of the race. This gear was inspected and found to be in good condition.
PEMBROOK HARRY broke near the 1250 metres when negotiating the crossing.
COLLECTION continued to over-race after improving to the parked position near the 1200 metres before improving to the lead near the 1000 metres.
CLASSIE REGAL was awkwardly placed closed to the sulky of LATE MAIL near the 1100 metres after a slight easing of the pace resulting in the trailing BOOMER, CULLEY BACKY and PAY ME BETTOR'S being hampered.
PEMBROOK HARRY hung inwards when improving wide on the track from the 800 metres and lost ground.
ILDIVO, OMAR SHARIF, LATE MAIL and CLASSIE REGAL were all held up on the final bend.
OMAR SHARIF hung outwards over the concluding stages when improving into the passing lane.
 
Race 6 HAYDEN MACKENZIE CONTRACTING/GERALDINE TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LEADING THE WAY and DANA DYNASTY raced wide in the early stages.
LEADING THE WAY over-raced from the 1000 metres after reaching the parked position.
HESTIA FRANCO was trapped wide without cover through the middle stages.
AVEROSS BRACHOLE, MARQUIS EYRE and ROMANITE had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
Driver T Bagrie (HESTIA FRANCO) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest near the 100 metres.
Driver S Golding (CHANGE THE RULZ) was shown a replay and reminded of his obligations to ensure he drives his horse out fully to the finish of the race.
 
Race 7 NORTH END MOTORS HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
OUTTA SIGHT broke at the start and shifted outwards checking SEEL THE DEAL. A warning was placed on the standing start record of OUTTA SIGHT.
BEST DEFENCE, MACH WINGER, CHANTREY and THE EDGE OF REASON also broke at the start with BOOMER BAILEY being inconvenienced by the breaking BEST DEFENCE.
MUSIC paced roughly when improving three wide nearing the 1600 metres.
GABBY'S STAR was held up for clear racing room passing the 150 metres.
BOOMER BAILEY was checked by CHANTREY near the 100 metres and lost ground. Driver J Young admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when allowing her horse to shift outwards checking BOOMER BAILEY. After viewing replays and hearing from Stewards and Junior Horsewoman J Young, the JCA imposed a fine of $300.
MUSIC again paced roughly over the concluding stages.
Driver D Dunn (LOOSE CANNON) reported that his sulky tyre deflated near the 400 metres.
 
Race 8 LINTON DISTRIBUTORS FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ASHES TO WINGS was a late scratching at 9.53am on Veterinary advice.
A false start was declared when the second row of horses had difficulty coming up into position.
The rein prickers on SO DEVINE and FLYINGRETNA were removed prior to the restart.
CULLENZ DIAMOND broke in the score-up briefly checking DESIRABLE STYX and JULIA LADY which both recovered to take up their rightful positions. Driver R May reported that CULLENZ DIAMOND had become stirred up as a result of the false start.
JUDY JETSON paced roughly in the early stages.
DESIRABLE STYX broke after 150 metres hampering MILLIES CREEK.
J Curtin (MILLIES CREEK) dropped his foot momentarily from the sulky rest near the 1400 metres.
C Thornley (MILLWOOD MAIZIE) and G Smith (JULIA LADY) both briefly dropped their foot from the sulky rest when activating their removable gear in the home straight.
ROCK DIVA had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
JUDY JETSON hung inwards near the 50 metres.
 
Race 9 FRESH CHOICE GERALDINE CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
The start was delayed due to QUICK AS A TRICK displaying poor barrier manners.
QUICK AS A TRICK reared and swung sideways just prior to the start resulting in the gelding losing all chance. Trainer B Negus was advised that QUICK AS A TRICK must trial satisfactorily on one occasion from a stand prior to resuming from that start type.
SMITHY, ALTA RONALDO and REGAL IDEAL broke at the start.
REGAL IDEAL gave ground on the final bend.
THE FRIENDLYASSASSIN broke passing the 400 metres checking CHOISE ACHIEVER and SMITHY. Driver G O'Reilly (THE FRIENDLYASSASSIN) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when allowing his horse to strike the wheel of MIGHTY FLYING MAC causing this incident. After hearing submissions on penalty and viewing the replays, Mr O'Reilly's Horseman's licence was suspended by the JCA from the conclusion of racing on 5 December up to and including 10 December (2 days).
Driver J Curtin reported that he did not activate the removable gear on CHOISE ACHIEVER due to receiving a check at the 400 metres.
Stewards lodged an information under Rule 213(1)(j) requesting a ruling with the JCA as to whether QUICK AS A TRICK was denied a fair start. After hearing from Stewards, Starter J Hooper and Driver J Cox, the JCA ruled that QUICK AS A TRICK had been denied a fair start and was subsequently declared a non-runner.
 
Race 10 VILLAGE INN GERALDINE HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
The boring pole on UNCAS was removed prior to the start due to the gelding warming up unfavourably.
UNCAS broke at the start.
FREE BIRD and OCH AYE THE NOO were slow to begin.
WATERLOO SUNSET broke after 200 metres.
NEVER FEAR over-raced when being restrained at the 1600 metres.
FREE BIRD broke with 1200 metres to run.
When questioned regarding the performance of WATERLOO SUNSET, driver B Butt reported the horse had over-raced during the running which had impacted on its ability to finish the race off competitively.
 
Race 11 ECOLAB HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
EYRE COUNTY underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
MIDFREW TARPEDIEM, MCCOVEY COVE and WHYAMIBETTOR broke at the start.
LOUIE FINN tangled away.
MY BABY'S LAUGHING was forced wider on the track by BENICIO near the 1100 metres. Driver M Purdon (BENICIO) admitted a breach of Rule 869(4)(6)(b)&(c) - Push Out Rule. After hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
MCCOVEY COVE gave ground rounding the final bend with the trailing LOUIE FINN, WHYAMIBETTOR and MOTU SPEEDY STAR being held up.
BENICIO broke with 250 metres to run checking CLIVE and WHYAMIBETTOR which broke. Driver M Purdon advised that he felt the gelding had lost its footing causing it to break. A warning was placed on the racing record of BENICIO
GOSHAWK hung outwards over the concluding stages.
Driver G Smith (MOTU LIGHTNING LASS) advised that he was not afforded the opportunity to activate the removable deafeners due to being badly held up throughout the run home.
Driver M Jones (PERISSA) was warned for starting wider on the track than his allocated position.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of KARANGA RED FANTASY, Trainer D Jones advised that the horse is a grass track specialist however she had been unsuited at her last start when being left to race three wide without cover from the 1000 metres. He added that the mare had benefited from an economical run throughout today's race.
