L McCormick replaced D Butt as the driver of KOWHAI KING in Race 4. After speaking with trainer N Edge, D Butt and the Club it was deemed there had been a communication failure between the parties which Mr Edge will be spoken to about in the coming days.

Race 1 THE JOINERS SHOP TROT Video  Video 
A $100 minor infringement notice was issued to trainer K Cameron after he failed to present NATIVES LASTING LOVE with the notified deafeners.
BRITE N LOVELY raced wide in the early stages.
MARCOOLA and BRITE N LOVELY broke near the 800 metres.
IT'S HOW YOU USE IT broke near the 400 metres. Driver L McCormick advised it was his intention to now send the mare for a spell.
BOURBON AND DRY broke near the 100 metres.
PURE SUCCESS broke over the concluding stages.
NATIVES LASTING LOVE was held up in the early stages of the run home.
The sulky stay on QUEVERT broke shortly after the finish. This was inspected by Stewards and found to be in good condition
When questioned with regard to the performance of SUNNY AFTERNOON, trainer P Nairn explained that his filly had become poorly positioned in the field from its outside draw and then been unsuited to the fast tempo being dictated throughout, meaning he had been unable to improve his position at an earlier time in the race.
 
Race 2 KAIKOURA WASTE SERVICES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
DONEGAL CAM'S CARD and CHANTREY over-raced in the early stages.
AVEROSS BRACHOLE raced wide in the early stages.
DONEGAL CAM'S CARD hung outwards rounding the final bend and made heavy contact with the sulky of HUNTER BROMAC and broke. A warning was placed on the geldings racing manners.
THE MIGHTY FALCON hung inwards on the final bend dictating BAY EMERALD over several marker pegs.
THE MIGHTY FALCON was held up in the early stages of the run home.
 
Race 3 TFS HORSE TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
REMISS broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
DROVER'S EYRE raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained.
SMOKEN ROMAN raced roughly near the 1300 metres and then broke near the 1100 metres inconveniencing DROVER'S EYRE and WHYAMIBETTOR who had to shift wider.
SMOKEN ROMAN again broke on the final bend checking WHYAMIBETTOR who lost its chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of SMOKEN ROMAN.
Driver B Orange (DYNAMIC PARTY) advised only one sliding blind had activated.
 
Race 4 KAIKOURA BUILDING CENTRE ITM PACE Video  Video 
BOOMER began awkwardly.
MR MEGABUCKS and WESTBURN RAVEN broke shortly after the start.
MR MEGABUCKS again broke on the first bend near the 2100 metres.
KATGOTSTYLE broke passing the 1800 metres causing DREAMCOAT, MOSSDALE LUCKY and MRS BROWN'S BOY to be taken wider.
MONGOLIAN ARCHER raced greenly when being taken forward to lead between the 1400 metres and 1000 metres.
KATGOTSTYLE again broke near the 1300 metres.
BOOMER blundered near the 900 metres and then commenced to weaken soon after.
KOWHAI KING weakened from the 900 metres.
DREAMCOAT tired passing the 400 metres.
MONGOLIAN ARCHER was reluctant to improve inwards into the passing lane and then raced greenly throughout the final straight. Driver J Cox reported that his colt had shied at the crowd throughout and been reluctant to improve its position in consequence.
 
Race 5 VIC & IRENE SMITH MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
As the barrier was released PAT'S SUCCESS reared and shifted inwards, coming into contact with starter's assistant G Sandford. G Sandford was examined by on-course paramedics and cleared to continue with his duties for the rest of the day. A warning was placed on the barrier record of PAT'S SUCCESS.
Shortly after the start COLONEL KLINK trotted roughly and broke losing its chance.
DIANA HARBOUR broke in the early stages.
LITTLE MO broke passing the 2200 metres.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of EILISH AIMEE, driver J Dunn explained the horse had disappointed him with its efforts over the final stages. He added that he intended to drive the horse in a more conservative manner in future should circumstances permit. Stewards will follow up with trainers C & A Edmonds in the coming days regarding the recovery of this horse.
Driver D Butt advised he was unable to activate the sliding blinds on LE REVEUR due to the cord becoming entangled.
Co-trainer A Edmonds has advised Stewards that following the disappointing run of EILISH AIMEE at Kaikoura on Monday, blood tests have revealed that the mare was suffering from a blood infection which is now being treated. Miss Edmonds further advised that EILISH AIMEE would be sent for a brief spell while recovering.
 
Race 6 MORE FM MARLBOROUGH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The near-side rein pricker was removed from INNOCENT ARTIST prior to the start due to the manner in which the gelding completed its preliminary.
PATRICK BEE and BITE THE BULLET broke as the start was effected. Warnings were placed on the barrier record of both horses.
ROCK DIVA raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
K Grant as the driver of DOVER DELIGHT, (assisted by T Mitchell) was spoken to advisedly for the manner in which she drove near the 1400 metres when restraining her runner in an attempt to take cover behind the improving ANNA IVY.
 
Race 7 MAJESTIC SON FFA TROT (STAND) Video  Video 
UNCAS broke at the start.
VINCENNES(AUS) tired rounding the final bend.
HARRYSUL raced greenly in the run home.
ALLEY WAY was held up in the early stages of the run home.
UNCAS broke passing the 100 metres.
When questioned regarding the performance of VINCENNES(AUS), driver T Williams explained that the gelding had travelled well throughout but disappointed with its efforts over the final 400 metres. A subsequent veterinary inspection detected some heat and swelling in the inside of the right hind leg. The gelding was stood down until such time as a veterinary clearance including the results of an ultrasound examination was produced.
A bandage on STENT's near-hind leg came loose during the running, with trainers C & J DeFilippi issued with a $100 minor infringement notice for failing to affix the gear so as not to come adrift.
 
Race 8 ALABAR KAIKOURA CUP (STAND) Video  Video 
DELIGHT BRIGADE, MIGHTY FLYING MAC and ARDEN ROONEY broke at the start.
BRILLIANT STRIKE was held up in the final 100 metres and had to shift inwards to continue improving.
K Manning as the driver of ARDEN ROONEY was issued with and admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a), the details of which alleged she had used her whip in a manner deemed to be excessive. After considering submissions on penalty a fine of $500 was imposed.
 
Race 9 PGG WRIGHTSON YEARLING SALES SERIES AGED HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
EXPRESS STRIDE and LEWY RISK broke at the start. A barrier warning was placed on the record of LEWY RISK.
Shortly after the start PULP FICTION broke inconveniencing RISK momentarily.
Racing into the first bend DOWNUNDER STRIDE broke losing its chance.
ALTA RONALDO paced roughly entering the first bend.
PULP FICTION paced roughly near the 1400 metres when being restrained.
 
Race 10 HALL & CO. FUNERAL SERVICES FAREWELL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
FREE FALLING broke at the start and hampered FRANCO TEXAS which then also broke when being restrained by driver J Young.
FRANCO TEXAS over-raced in the middle stages.
ROYAL CAROLINE was held up for clear racing room throughout the final straight.
The connections of FRANCO TEXAS (4th place) lodged a protest against 1st placing being awarded to FREE FALLING alleging interference in the early stages. After considering submissions from all parties and reviewing the films the JCA dismissed the protest.
First placing being awarded to FREE FALLING was further withheld until it could be confirmed that the gelding had not breached the Breaking Horse Regulations in the early stages. Driver G Smith reported that in future mobile starts it would be his intention to restrain the gelding in the early stages where circumstances permit. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
