The connections of FRANCO CORTESE have reported to Stewards that following its disappointing run at Ascot Park last week, the gelding has been scoped and blood tests taken with no irregularities detected.

Race 1 CARPET PLUS WILLY'S FLOORING/MLT TROT Video  Video 
Trainer N Edge was issued with a Minor Infringement Notice after presenting PURE SUCCESS to race in this event with the incorrect saddlecloth number and was fined $100.
MATAI KATIE trotted roughly shortly after the start before pacing approaching the first bend and had to be broken up by driver A Milne.
DENN NEE NOSE BEST broke passing the 1000 metres after making contact with the sulky wheel of EYRE'S A RAG DOLL (G McEwan) which shifted ground inwards with the trailing EASY MOMENT being hampered. Driver G McEwan defended a subsequent charge of Careless Driving pursuant to Rule 869 (3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when shifting ground near the 1000 metres checking DENN NEE NOSE BEST causing that horse to break. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Mr McEwan and the Stewards the JCA found the charge proved and imposed a suspension of Mr McEwan's licence to drive from the conclusion of racing today until 1 November inclusive (3 days).
STRATHSPEY BOY broke with 700 metres to run.
EYRE'S A RAG DOLL broke with 300 metres to run.
MISS COCO trotted roughly on the final bend.
EASY MOMENT trotted roughly in the run home.
PURE SUCCESS (N Buchan) struck the sulky wheel of GRACE LIGHTNING when being driven out over the concluding stages and broke just prior to the finish line. Stewards lodged a Protest against fourth placing being awarded to PURE SUCCESS pursuant to Rule 870(5) alleging PURE SUCCESS broke late in the run home and crossed the finish line in the incorrect gait when Lapped On by LOXI CLAIRBORNE on its inside. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Miss Buchan and the Stewards, the JCA upheld the Protest and relegated PURE SUCCESS to fifth placing behind LOXI CLAIRBORNE.
Miss N Buchan subsequently admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) the particulars being that she drove carelessly when allowing PURE SUCCESS to contact the sulky wheel of GRACE LIGHTNING causing her horse to break. After viewing replays and hearing evidence from Miss Buchan and the Stewards, the JCA suspended Miss Buchan's licence to drive from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 1 November inclusive (5 days).
Stewards questioned horseman A Black regarding the apparent lack of vigour he showed when driving out ABRAHAM JONES over the concluding stages of this event. After hearing from Mr Black, Stewards adjourned the matter to give it further consideration. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of ABRAHAM JONES which failed to detect any clinical abnormalities.
 
Race 2 SOUTHERN VEGETATION CONTROL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
HIGHVIEW RULER hung inwards in the score up.
MAN I'M GOOD hung outwards late in the score up.
HIGHVIEW RULER continued to hang inwards in the early stages before being restrained to the rear of the field.
MAN I'M GOOD hung inwards on the final bend.
HIGHVIEW RULER hung inwards throughout the run home.
When questioned regarding the performance of TACTICAL VC driver D Dunn advised that given the mare was having its first race day start and had worked hard to obtain the parked position during the running he was not disappointed with the effort.
 
Race 3 LONE STAR RICCARTON MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CABALLO BLANCO broke in the score up and was back several lengths at the start. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of the filly.
LINDALI hung inwards late in the score up and came together with KATE JACKSON which broke with the trailing PARNELL being briefly inconvenienced. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of LINDALI.
FRANCO TEXAS raced keenly when being restrained approaching the first bend.
HEZ ONLY THE LONELY gave ground from the 600 metres with the trailing LINDALI and KATE JACKSON being held up.
THINKING SMART hung inwards on the final bend and struck a pylon. THINKING SMART continued to hang inwards in the early stages of the run home.
WHATA EXCUSE raced greenly when being directed into the Passing lane near the 200 metres and raced inside a pylon.
Authorisation of fourth placing was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied that WHATA EXCUSE had not gained an advantage when racing inside track markers in the home straight.
Following the running of this event the Stewards sought a Ruling from the JCA pursuant to Rule 213(1)(j) as to whether KATE JACKSON and PARNELL had been denied a fair start. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from horsemen A Armour (KATE JACKSON), S Golding (PARNELL), N Williamson (LINDALI), Starter Mr B Ward and the Stewards, the JCA declared KATE JACKSON a non runner. The JCA further determined that PARNELL had received a fair start.
 
Race 4 FAREWELL COLIN BAYNES FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Permission was granted for ENVIOUS to race in the colours of C H Baynes.
There was a delay to the start of this event due to the Protest in the previous event.
ANNIE FITZ was back slightly at the start.
SEDUCE ME broke as the start was effected losing several lengths. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of the filly.
ANNIE FITZ broke rounding the first bend.
ENVIOUS briefly hung inwards entering the home straight and had to be corrected by driver D Dunn resulting in COMBIEN and RED ELECTRIC being shifted marginally wider on the track with STAR SPANGLED GEM being held up.
EL CARTEL hung inwards throughout the run home.
FLASHING GOOD TIME had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the final straight.
RAKARAZOR was held up for clear racing room throughout the home straight.
 
Race 5 DUNNE EQUINE DENTRISTRY LTD/BROMAC LODGE PACE Video  Video 
SANCY underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
The start was delayed due to MISS STELLA and OSSESSIONE displaying poor barrier manners.
A false start was declared when TIGHT LIPPED and SANCY locked wheels prior to the tapes being released.
The start was further delayed when OSSESSIONE again displayed poor barrier manners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of OSSESSIONE
MISS STELLA and KNOCKMANAUGH came together at the start with both runners losing ground.
TRENDY'S BAD GIRL and BLACK GEORGE broke at the start.
OSSESSIONE broke briefly after 150 metres hampering the trailing KOWHAI KING.
KOWHAI KING gave ground on the final bend with the trailing WAYWARD ROC being held up. When questioned regarding the performance of KOWHAI KING driver D Dunn advised that the gelding had worked hard in the middle stages and the effort had taken its toll. He added that the gelding may be better driven with a sit.
TIGHT LIPPED struck a pylon near the 250 metres which became dislodged.
 
Race 6 JACCKA LODGE JUNIOR DRIVERS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
BOBBINS was slow to begin.
GRACE O'MALLEY and KYLIE CASTLETON broke in the early stages.
ELTSUNAMI broke rounding the first bend.
SUNDON INVASION broke near the 2100 metres.
GRACE O'MALLEY hung inwards on the bend near the 1900 metres.
KYLIE CASTLETON again broke passing the 1800 metres.
GRACE O'MALLEY hung outwards passing the 1700 metres.
HENGROEN over raced in the middle stages.
GRACE O'MALLEY broke near the 900 metres hampering the trailing TRICK STAR.
SUNDON INVASION trotted roughly and broke near the 700 metres.
STRATHMORES CHARM struck a pylon early in the run home when attempting to improve to the inside of ANOTHERSUPERSTAR which had utilised the Passing Lane. STRATHMORES CHARM then had to shift ground outwards in search of clear running. Driver K Cox was shown a replay and spoken to advisedly for the manner she drove at this stage of the race.
OVERCAST broke near the 200 metres after driver R McIlwrick activated the removable deafeners.
HENGROEN hung outwards in the run home.
Driver M Anderson (TRICK STAR) was shown a replay of the start and reminded of his obligations to ensure he does not start wider than his allocated barrier position.
 
Race 7 GORE WINDSCREENS 'N' GLASS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
RIVER PATROL raced greenly near the 500 metres when being restrained after a slight easing of the pace.
ROCK TILL YOU DROP was held up for clear racing room on the final bend.
MACARDO hung inwards in the run home.
RIVER PATROL had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
 
Race 8 NEVELE R STUD JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ARTICULIGHT broke shortly after the start for a considerable distance. ARTICULIGHT was then obliged to race wide in the early stages before improving to the lead. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of ARTICULIGHT. Driver J Young advised Stewards that she would be recommending hopple shorteners be added to the gelding's gear.
ARTICULIGHT hung outwards from the 800 metres when leading.
THE CHARGING MOA was held up on the final bend and through the early stages of the run home.
LIVE TO TELL struck several pylons near the 350 metres after driver J Morrison activated the removable deafeners. Mr Morrison was shown a replay and warned to make a greater effort to ensure he does not contact track markers.
ARTICULIGHT and ZEN WARRIOR briefly came together near the 50 metres after both horses shifted ground.
Authorisation of second placing being awarded to ARTICULIGHT was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied ARTICULIGHT had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations when breaking in the early stages.
Drivers C Ferguson (BONNIE'S KHALEESI) and M Parker (BALFOUR BUTLER) were warned under Rule 853(1) to ensure they check in following the race when placed in the Judge's call.
 
Race 9 WOODLANDS STUD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GROOMSMAN was a late scratching at 5.17pm last night with a veterinary certificate supplied.
BETTOR'S BRIGADIER raced wide in the early stages.
PULP FICTION hung inwards on the bend near the 900 metres.
BETTOR'S BRIGADIER gave ground on the final bend. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of BETTOR'S BRIGADIER which revealed no abnormalities.
PULP FICTION again hung inwards when being improved three wide near the 350 metres.
Junior horseman M Anderson (SHEEZA SHARK) was shown a replay and warned to ensure his whip remains within the confines of the sulky.
 
Race 10 ZILCO/MCMILLAN FEEDS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ONEDIN ONYX was held up for clear racing room leaving the final bend and in the run home.
COSTA DEL MAGNIFICO was held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
RAPHOE was held up throughout the run home.
CHRISTIAN GREY was held up over the concluding stages.
COSTA DEL MAGNIFICO and MACH OF THE MAN came together near the 100 metres.
When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted over the final 400 metres on ONEDIN ONYX driver M Williamson explained that he had improved three wide onto the back of THE PERSUADER near the 300 metres however shortly after THE PERSUADER was shifted wider by RUN TO HIDE and in his opinion THE PERSUADER was beginning to give ground. Mr Williamson stated that he felt it was a better option to follow RUN TO HIDE than to improve five wide rounding the final bend. Upon entering the home straight he briefly shifted inwards on to the back of ONE DIRECTION before again shifting outwards to a position behind RUN TO HIDE in search of a clear run which did not eventuate. After considering his explanation, Stewards were satisfied Mr Williamson's tactics were not unreasonable in the circumstances and no further action was deemed necessary.
 
Race 11 NZ HORSE TRANSPORT/CENTRAL SOUTHLAND FREIGHT PACE Video  Video 
There was a delay to the start of this event due to a sulky wheel needing to be changed on MACHRIE.
THAT CAT broke briefly shortly after the start.
LAUGHING CAVALIER broke when racing into the first bend when positioned to the inside of DOUBLE RAINBOW with the trailing FIRST FLIGHT IN being briefly hampered. Stewards questioned T Dewe (LAUGHING CAVALIER) and S Walkinshaw (DOUBLE RAINBOW) regarding this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing from both drivers it was established that Mr Dewe had commenced to restrain LAUGHING CAVALIER as DOUBLE RAINBOW improved on its outside however LAUGHING CAVALIER had failed to handle the bend and broke free of interference.
FIRST FLIGHT IN raced keenly in the middle stages.
LAUGHING CAVALIER was held up on the final bend by the tiring THE EDGE OF REASON.
Driver A Armour briefly dropped his foot from the sulky footrest near the 250 metres when activating the sliding blinds on FIRST FLIGHT IN.
SMILING ARMADA had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
