There was a delay to the start after IL PIRATA reared and fell at the first attempt to start the race. The Club's veterinary surgeon cleared the horse to start. | |
IL PIRATA broke at the start veering inward causing interference to FRANCO NADAL with both horses losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on this horse's standing start manners. | |
DRAGON LADY broke shortly after the start. | |
CHOSEN PATH broke entering the first bend and again passing the 2200 metres. | |

An investigation established that YOGI JOHNSON (Z Butcher) reacted to a marginal inward movement from STUEY D with Driver Z Butcher advising that there was no contact (YOGI JOHNSON was also inclined to lay out). Driver S Abernethy (STUEY D) was shown the video coverage of the run home and spoken to advisedly although it was noted that Mr Abernethy had reacted immediately when the horse shied away from the use of the whip. | |
MOKOSUN raced keenly rounding the final bend when three deep in the running line. Driver D Butcher advised that he did not activate the removable deafeners on MOKOSUN. Stewards questioned Driver D Butcher regarding his drive on MOKOSUN over the concluding stages. D Butcher advised Stewards that when racing keenly rounding the final bend MOKOSUN had begun to strike the wheel discs and over-race. Passing the 200 metres the gelding trotted roughly for a short distance having to be steadied before becoming balanced and running on. He further added that he was mindful of MOKOSUN's previous start where he galloped at a similar stage. Stewards noted the explanation. | |
