Race 5 - CHRISTIAN CULLEN HANDICAP PACE
Trainer C Dalgety has reported to Stewards that MAJOR BUBBLES has recovered well from its disappointing performance at Addington last Friday and will race there again this week. He further reported that an anti-pulling bit and a rein pricker will be added to the gelding's gear to help it race in a more tractable manner.
Race 9 - PEGASUS SPUR AT WOODLANDS STUD HANDICAP TROT
Trainer M Ward has reported to Stewards that blood tests taken from MAJESTIC TIME, following its disappointing run at Addington last Friday, revealed the mare to be suffering from dehydration. Mr Ward added that MAJESTIC TIME would be returning to the workouts before resuming.

Race 1 CHALLENGE BLIGHS ROAD & BURNSIDE CATHOLIC PARISH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ASHDAL MAID was a considerable distance out of position at the start with a warning placed on the mare's barrier record. As a result of this DOVER DELIGHT started slightly wider on the track.
DUBONNAY TWIST got its head up and raced roughly in the early stages.
DUBONNAY TWIST raced keenly near the 1600 metres and had to be restrained by driver T Chmiel.
SANCY raced wide in the early stages prior to being improved forward into a parked position near the 1200 metres.
SANCY commenced to weaken when placed under pressure at the 400 metres.
ASHDAL MAID hung in under pressure on the final bend and struck pylons.
SCARLETT BANNER was held up briefly near the 250 metres and had to shift inwards to obtain clear running.
 
Race 2 ALEX McDONALD LTD & BRYNDWR CATHOLIC PARISH MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
BIG EARS and PARIS PRINCESS broke in the score up with both of these runners losing all chance.
YOUNG STRANGER raced keenly in the early stages.
Stewards spoke with driver I Cameron (GIN RUMMY) after he shifted CLEAN BREAK to a three wide position for a short distance near the 1400 metres, and reminded him that at this stage of the race he was not permitted to cause an improving horse to race wider on the track.
Near the 650 metres CLEAN BREAK broke after being taken wider on the track by QUEEN KENNY. Stewards questioned drivers C Thornley (CLEAN BREAK) and D Dunn (QUEEN KENNY) regarding this incident. It was established at this point that D Dunn was in a position to shift CLEAN BREAK wider, however in the process of doing so, the sulkies locked wheels with both runners being checked. After considering the explanation of driver's Dunn and Thornley, Stewards deemed the actions of Mr Dunn were not careless, and that Mr Thornley had attempted to concede his position but had been unable to do so due to the sulky wheels being locked.
With about 30 metres remaining YOUNG STRANGER broke continuing on in a gallop over the line. Stewards confirmed the gelding had not been in breach of the Breaking Horse Regulations prior to the payment of dividends.
A post-race veterinary examination of BIG EARS was requested due to the mare returning to the stables seemingly lame in her action. This examination revealed the mare to be lame in the left-front leg with a veterinary certificate of clearance required prior to resuming.
 
Race 3 THERMO KING LTD & HORNBY DARFIELD CATHOLIC PARISH MOB PACE Video  Video 
TIGER JOHN broke briefly during the middle stages of the score up when over-racing.
LINTON SHARD broke and shifted outwards shortly after the start resulting in checks to TIROL'S ROCKET, IMOLA and ROLLIN THUNDER. Stewards advised the connections the gelding will now be drawn unruly for mobile racing. The connections advised the gelding would be sent for a brief freshen up and it was his intention to restrict the gelding to standing starts when it returns to the races.
BAD ROUND raced keenly when in the parked position through the middle stages.
RED RIVER LOCHEE raced keenly passing the 1400 metres.
When being improved wide around the field near the 1000 metres TIROL'S ROCKET raced roughly for several strides.
ROLLIN THUNDER broke near the 600 metres and lost its chance. Stewards placed a warning on the gelding's racing record.
TIROL'S ROCKET broke near the 350 metres checking the trailing MARTIN JOHN, BAD ROUND and TIGER JOHN which were all forced to shift ground outwards. When questioned regarding this, driver C Thornley was unable to offer any explanation, but did advise he recommended hopple elastics be added to the gelding's gear for its next start. Trainer B Zampese confirmed it was his intention to effect this change. A warning was placed on the horse's racing record.
 
Race 4 MURNEY FAMILY TRUST & MID CANTERBURY CATHOLIC PARISH PACE Video  Video 
FREE FALLING, ROMANITE and ARIZONA EYRE broke briefly at the start.
EMMANUEL broke briefly after 100 metres.
EMMANUEL raced wide in the early and middle stages prior to obtaining cover near the 1700 metres.
EMMANUEL raced wide from the 1500 metres and despite the efforts of driver M Anderson, EMMANUEL was unable to reach the parked position with this gelding weakening when placed under pressure near the 350 metres. When questioned regarding the efforts of this gelding, Mr Anderson explained it had been his intention to take up a forward position in the early stages but due to the gelding breaking he was forced to restrain and race further back than anticipated. Mr Anderson advised he then attempted to improve his position when the paced eased during the middle stages however due to his runner pacing roughly he had been unable to take up a position closer to the pylons than three wide. A post-race veterinary examination of EMMANUEL revealed no abnormalities.
ROMANITE had difficulty obtaining clear racing through the middle stages of the run home.
C Smith (ARIZONA EYRE) dropped his foot from the sulky foot-rest over the concluding stages. Mr Smith was spoken to advisedly and reminded to ensure both feet remain in the sulky foot-rest throughout.
 
Race 5 GF & J McMASTER & HALSWELL CATHOLIC PARISH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
PAY ME DIRECT raced roughly in the early stages and had to be steadied by driver B Orange when taken forwards between the 1700 metres and the 1400 metres.
PAY ME DIRECT again raced roughly between the 400 metres and the 250 metres.
Racing past the 250 metres KINGI HONE KIRA (S McNally) shifted outwards which took EASY RIDER (R Butt) outwards and across the racing line of PAY ME DIRECT (B Orange) who was forced into restricted room to the inside of GUNPOWDER (J Curtin) which was already in confined quarters as a result of PICCADILLY PRINCESS hanging inwards. In consequence to this both PAY ME DIRECT and GUNPOWDER were checked into a gallop with GUNPOWDER making heavy contact with the sulky of PAY ME DIRECT. A post-race veterinary examination of GUNPOWDER revealed no abnormalities. NEVERTHELESS which was following these runners was hampered and had to be steadied by driver R May with him advising he had not activated the gelding's removable deafeners. Stewards spoke with drivers S McNally, R Butt, B Orange and J Curtin and after viewing the films, adjourned the matter to give it further consideration.
PICCADILLY PRINCESS hung outwards over the concluding stages.
M Neilson as the driver of MISTA SHARK reported the cord attached to her removable deafeners had broken when she had attempted to activate them in the early stages of the run home. This gear was inspected and found to be in good order.
 
Race 6 VIVACE COFFEE HOUSE & LINCOLN CATHOLIC PARISH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
VALOR LUSTRE raced wide until the 1250 metres.
DIGITAL ART raced keenly in the middle stages.
HIGHLAND REIGN over-raced in the middle stages.
JUSTALITTLEBETTOR raced roughly when eased wider on the track near the 300 metres. Driver B Butt advised that the mare had struck a knee at this time.
VALOR LUSTRE hung inwards on the final bend.
ROYAL COUNSEL was unable to gain clear racing room until passing the 100 metres.
PRINCESS ARTS shifted outwards under pressure throughout the final straight.
 
Race 7 J BUTLER & CO & MAIREHAU CATHOLIC PARISH HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
NEVER FEAR broke passing the 400 metres checking the trailing HABIBTI who was hampered for a considerable distance and had to be heavily restrained by driver D Butt.
HABIBTI had to shift outwards near the 150 metres when disappointed for clear racing room.
 
Race 8 JOHN JONES STEEL LTD & PAPANUI CATHOLIC PARISH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The rein pricker was removed from CULLECT A GUINNESS due to the gelding warming up unfavourably in the preliminary.
FAIR DINKUM BROMAC paced roughly through the early stages losing ground.
CULLECT A GUINNESS hung inwards on the first bend near the 2400 metres and in doing so placed HUDSON SULLY in restricted room and had to be steadied by driver J Harrington.
CULLECT A GUINNESS continued to hang inwards on the first bend further hampering HUDSON SULLY.
REGAL IDEAL and CHANTREY raced keenly through the middle stages.
CULLECT A GUINNESS raced greenly near the 1300 metres and shifted outwards.
CLIVE commenced to give ground near the 700 metres being distanced at the finish. Driver L O'Reilly reported the gelding had choked down. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of CLIVE which revealed the gelding to be suffering from exhaustion.
KARANGA RED FANTASY raced roughly and was shifted wider near the 650 metres by REGAL IDEAL who was attempting to avoid the compounding CLIVE.
CHANTREY hung outwards when placed under pressure through the home straight.
 
Race 9 WATKINS FLOORING XTRA & RICCARTON CATHOLIC PARISH MOB PACE Video  Video 
MAJOR BUBBLES raced roughly passing the 400 metres.
JOHNNY EYRE was held up on the final bend by the weakening MR MEDDLE.
MR MEDDLE struck pylons when weakening near the 300 metres. Driver J Dunn was warned to make a better effort in future to make sure this does not occur.
Near the 150 metres JOHNNY EYRE was shifted inwards when further hampered by MR MEDDLE and in doing so made contact with the track marker. Driver M Neilson was spoken to advisedly.
 
Race 10 BOWDEN ENVIROMENTAL & WAIMAKARIRI CATHOLIC PARISH PACE Video  Video 
KIA KAHA and THE CROFTER broke at the start and settled back as a result.
BERNIE WINKLE paced roughly entering the first bend.
THE CROFTER broke passing the winning post on the first occasion inconveniencing the trailing MRS BROWN'S BOY. When questioned regarding this, driver D Dunn reported that this gelding had been striking its knees and he had recommended to trainer M House that gear changes be made.
SHAKEY LOCH hung inwards on the first bend and lost ground inconveniencing the trailing GO ONE BETTOR.
Near the 1300 metres MYBOYLOLLIEPOP was placed in restricted room when R May (HANNAH EXTREME) unsuccessfully attempted to shift that runner down the track. Mr May was shown the films of the incident and spoken to for the manner in which he shifted ground.
Near the 1000 metres the pace in the two-wide line was eased when BERNIE WINKLE raced greenly and was restrained by driver N Williamson. As a consequence to this HALL OF FAME, MYBOYLOLLIEPOP, CULLEY BACKY and SKETCHING were all inconvenienced and lost some ground.
CULLEY BACKY raced wide from the 1000 metres and hung inwards under pressure on the final bend.
SHAKEY LOCH and KIA KAHA were held up for clear racing room through the early stages of the run home.
