Race Comments
Race 1 BISHOPDALE/BUSH INN TAB'S & TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SPECIAL DELIGHT which was fractious in the pre-race formations reared and fell to the track with a veterinary examination declaring the mare a late scratching.
A false start was declared after ROLLIN THUNDER broke during the latter stages of the score up with driver G Turner electing to remain in his rightful position. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
INCREDIBLE ANVIL broke when negotiating the crossing near the 1800 metres resulting in the trailing ROLLIN THUNDER, THIS AIN'T TENNESSEE, VANHALEM, ONCEWERECHRISTIANS and LOOSE CANNON being hampered.
ROLLIN THUNDER broke near the 650 metres inconveniencing FRANCO CALIPH and effectively losing all chance.
CAESAR'S EMPIRE weakened passing the 400 metres.
ONCEWERECHRISTIANS and ROLLIN THUNDER broke throughout the run home.
Payment of dividend was withheld after driver W Low (LOOSE CANNON) advised Stewards he wished to review the films with a view to protesting 1st placing of INCREDIBLE ANVIL due to interference on the first bend. After viewing the films Mr Low elected not to progress the matter any further.
Stewards spoke with driver G Turner regarding the manner in which he had handled ROLLIN THUNDER when checked into a gallop near the 1700 metres with relation to the reason he had not shifted his gelding clear of the field at the earliest opportunity. After considering Mr Turner's explanation he was advised to make a better effort to take his galloping horse clear of the field and return it to its proper gait in future.
When questioned regarding the performance of THE FLYING SCOTSMAN, trainer N McGrath was of the opinion that the gelding had struggled with the existing track conditions.
R Sissons as the driver of SMOKIN CHICK was issued with a $200 minor infringement notice alleging that he had failed to activate the removable deafeners on his mare over the concluding stages.
Driver B Wilmott (THIS AIN'T TENNESSEE) was issued with a $100 minor infringement notice after failing to fully activate his hopple shorteners. Mr Wilmott was also issued with a warning for failing to notify Stewards that his gear had not been activated at the earliest opportunity.
 
Race 2 CHARTERIS BAY TROT Video  Video 
XAVIER JOHN shifted in abruptly over the early stages checking AMARETTO SUN, STELLAR SUCCESS, LITTLE ROCKET and ALLINEEDISAMIRACLE. A warning was placed on the barrier record of XAVIER JOHN.
BRYLINS CHOICE broke shortly after the start.
LITTLE ROCKET broke after about 100 metres.
MR NATURAL broke briefly near the 1900 metres.
ALLINEEDISAMIRACLE broke near the 1800 metres.
BRYLIN ROSE and ALLINEEDISAMIRACLE broke near the 400 metres.
TEHORO NOVA hung inwards near the 350 metres and struck several pylons causing the mare to break and lose its chance.
MERLOT hung inwards throughout the run home.
M Heenan as the driver of STELLAR SUCCESS reported his mare to have hung out throughout the final straight.
 
Race 3 SHADYSHARK HANOVER FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LILLY JONES broke briefly in the score up however recovered to be in its rightful position at dispatch.
LOLLAPALOOSA MIDFREW broke shortly after the start losing several lengths.
DOVER DELIGHT over-raced through the early and middle stages.
LOLLAPALOOSA MIDFREW broke rounding the home bend near the 400 metres.
DOVER DELIGHT was held up through the early stages of the run home.
 
Race 4 goSTALLIONS - PRODIGAL SEELSTER PACE Video  Video 
There was a delay to the start of this race when ZOEROTTEN was unable to be brought up to its correct barrier position. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
PALEFACE SIOUX and DON PIERRE broke at the start.
ANIKA LINDENNY raced wide in the early and middle stages.
OLDE OAKE ARNIE commenced to give at the 400 metres and was distanced at the finish.
ZOEROTTEN (K Cox) struck several pylons on the final bend when improved to the inside of the weakening OLDE OAKE ARNIE (C Thornley). Stewards questioned driver K Cox (assisted by Senior Horseman C DeFilippi) and C Thornley regarding this incident where it was established that OLDE OAKE ARNIE had shifted outwards and presented a full run for ZOEROTTEN, however OLDE OAKE ARNIE had shifted inwards under pressure despite the efforts of driver C Thornley placing ZOEROTTEN in restricted room ultimately leading to the mare contacting the markers. Accordingly no further action was taken.
When questioned regarding the performance of KIA KAHA, driver G O'Reilly advised that the mare had struggled in the going when placed under pressure in the home straight and had proved disappointing.
When questioned regarding the performance of A LIFE UNDER FIRE, trainer/driver N McGrath explained that the colt was flat throughout and attributed the existing track condition to its disappointing performance.
 
Race 5 TERROR TO LOVE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MARCO SIMONCELLI raced fiercely in the score up and got its head up over the barrier arm causing driver C DeFilippi some difficulty.
HOPEFUL HARRIET broke prior to dispatch and shifted inwards becoming awkwardly positioned near the sulky of MARCO SIMONCELLI with HOPEFUL HARRIET losing several lengths.
MARCO SIMONCELLI raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
MARCO SIMONCELLI commenced to give ground near the 600 metres inconveniencing the trailing GABBY'S STAR, ENDEAVOUR ARIZONA and JUDYS MCARDLE who all had to be steadied.
JUDYS MCARDLE was held up on the final bend.
ENDEAVOUR ARIZONA weakened passing the 500 metres and finished a considerable distanced last. A post-race veterinary examination of ENDEAVOUR ARIZONA failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K Estreich advised that ENDEAVOUR ARIZONA would be retired.
When questioned regarding the racing performance of MARCO SIMONCELLI, trainer B Negus explained the gelding would be returned to the trials where he would race with the addition of an under-check and was likely to be restricted to standing starts.
 
Race 6 GRANITE BENCHTOP COMPANY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CLASSIEBEE weakened passing the 400 metres.
ALGRANCOBOWJOEL hung inwards under pressure on the final bend and struck pylons. When questioned regarding the gelding's performance, driver G Smith explained that the gelding had only had one trial leading up to today's event and had struggled in the existing track conditions when placed under pressure in the home straight.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of MAYBE FLYIN, trainer R Needham attributed the drop-back in class from the mare's previous start at Oamaru and the re-introduction to a grassed circuit.
 
Race 7 ADVANCED JOINERY FOR KITCHENS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Due to the manner BLINGITON had warmed up in its preliminary, the blinds were removed prior to the start.
DANNY DEL VITO and KOTARE MAHDI both paced roughly for a short distance near the 400 metres.
COURTNEY JOHN was held up near the 150 metres and had to shift outwards across BILLY JACK to obtain clear racing room.
TUBBYS SISTER hung outwards throughout the run home.
 
Race 8 ALABAR D G JONES TROTTING CUP (HANDICAP) Video  Video 
HARRYSUL broke at the start and lost ground.
Racing into the first bend ZACHARY BINX broke which briefly hampered PRESTINE.
CLOVER DON broke for a short distance entering the first bend and was restrained by driver R Holmes.
SHEEMON weakened near the 450 metres inconveniencing the trailing CLOVER DON which became held up for a short distance. When questioned regarding the performance of SHEEMON, driver D Dunn advised that the gelding had to work hard to obtain a leading position near the 1000 metres. Dunn added that it was his opinion SHEEMON was unsuited to the existing track conditions where the gelding proved disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of SHEEMON revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Townley advised it was his intention not to race SHEEMON on a rain affected grass track again.
 
Race 9 SPIRIT ECLIPSE-RACING FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE (SI) PACE Video  Video 
LIS RULZ, MISS LILAC and IRON MAN broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of IRON MAN.
IRON MAN again broke in the early stages hampering SPIRIT ECLIPSE which had to be steadied.
PAY ME VISA hung outwards entering the home straight inconveniencing LIS RULZ which was forced wider on the track, with the trailing CALL ME DANNY becoming held up. LIS RULZ then hung inwards for a short distance and had to be straightened.
D Dunn reported that only one hopple shortener activated on SPIRIT ECLIPSE due to the cord breaking. This gear was examined and found to be of good order.
 
Race 10 JENNY BUTT HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
SHADOW GALLEON broke briefly as the start was effected.
MOMENTOUS broke rounding the bend near the 2500 metres losing ground.
FRATELLINO broke near the 2300 metres losing several lengths. When questioned regarding the breaking, driver D Dunn explained his gelding had been trotting awkwardly and when he had attempted to restrain the horse it had begun to over-race with it breaking soon after. Mr Dunn further advised that FRATELLINO had been unsuited to today's testing track conditions and struggled from this point onwards.
MOMENTOUS, THE ZIGMEISTER and DIANA HARBOUR all commenced to weaken near the 600 metres. Driver's C DeFilippi, P Davis and K James all reported their horses had not handled today's track conditions.
 
Race 11 WOODLANDS STUD PACE Video  Video 
K Barron was issued with a $100 minor infringement notice for presenting RALPH ELLIOTT without the sliding blinds which had been notified.
Both REAL COOL DUDE and OUTTA SIGHT reared at the start with OUTTA SIGHT being sent to the unruly. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
MCARDLE ROYALE, THE SMOOCHA and REAL COOL DUDE broke at the start with REAL COOL DUDE losing considerable ground.
REAL COOL DUDE got its head up when being restrained near the 1000 metres when the pace ahead had eased.
SHADOW RIDER had difficulty obtaining clear racing room until near the 200 metres.
Junior Horseman J Morrison (OUTTA SIGHT) (assisted by Senior Horseman R May), and L O'Reilly (BANK RAIDER) were warned for the manner in which they used their whip over the concluding stages.
