Race 1 SUNNY RUBY 14/15 HRNZ 3YO FILLY OF THE YEAR TROT Video  Video 
GLENELEVEN and NATIVES BRITE GEM broke at the start.
NO FEARS broke after approximately 100 metres.
DUCHESS GRACE weakened passing the 800 metres.
PRECIOUS MOMENT broke with 400 metres to run and failed to settle.
Passing the 100 metres GLENELEVEN broke and continued on in a gallop for approximately 70 metres.
Stewards lodged a protest against the 4th placing of GLENELEVEN under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations for galloping in excess of 50 metres in the run home. The connections did not contest the protest and after viewing the films GLENELEVEN was disqualified by the JCA.
J Curtin as the driver of TRIAL SEPARATION advised that he did not activate the removable hood due to having the field covered.
When questioned regarding the performance of CHIVASION which weakened passing the 500 metres trainer/driver M Edmonds explained the mare failed to handle today's slushy track conditions.
 
Race 2 DREAM ABOUT ME 14/15 HRNZ 2YO FILLY OF THE YEAR MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SIFTY TUESDAY raced roughly throughout the score up.
ASHES TO WINGS hung outwards in the early stages.
DERRINGER raced greenly when leading the field between the 1600 metres and the 1000 metres.
Passing the 1400 metres CULLENS FIRST MEDDLE raced keenly and became awkwardly positioned near the sulky of AREION.
ASHES TO WINGS which was racing keenly broke with 1100 metres to run after there had been a slight easing of the pace.
BEAUDIENE GAMBLER was held up on the final bend behind the weakening GOD OF WAR and DOVER DELIGHT.
SIFTY TUESDAY was held up in the early and middle stages of the run home and had to be shifted wider near the 50 metres to obtain clear running. Driver B Orange advised he did not activate the removable deafeners on the mare as a result of this.
When questioned with regard to the performance of CULLENS FIRST MEDDLE driver R Houghton advised the gelding had not handled the slushy track conditions.
 
Race 3 CHASE THE DREAM 14/15 HRNZ 2YO MALE OF THE YEAR PACE Video  Video 
MANINTHEMIRROR and LINTON SHARD were both slightly back at the start and slow through the early stages with both runners taking up positions at the rear of the field.
ANIKA LINDENNY began awkwardly and shifted outwards.
LOLLAPALOOSA MIDFREW broke at the start.
HANGOVER broke after 200 metres and lost ground.
LIS RULZ raced roughly round the first bend when racing in restricted room and had to be steadied by driver R May. Horseman R Payne (TUAPEKA ART) will be spoken to regarding this matter in the coming days.
LINTON SHARD attempted to improve wide passing the 900 metres but was under pressure near the 500 metres weakening from that point onwards eventually finishing 19 lengths from the winner.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of LINTON SHARD driver J Markham explained that the gelding in his opinion had failed to handle today's slushy track conditions.
Driver R Payne advised he was unable to activate the removable deafeners on TUAPEKA ART due to the cord becoming entangled.
 
Race 4 CHRISTEN ME 14/15 HRNZ PACER OF THE YEAR MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MYBOYLOLLIEPOP was off the gate at dispatch as a result of pacing roughly. This gelding then continued to race roughly throughout the early stages.
JAYEES SUPREME and BETTOR'S POWER raced wide in the early stages.
MYBOYLOLLIEPOP broke with 1500 metres remaining.
RHYTHMIST broke with 1100 metres to run.
MYBOYLOLLIEPOP again broke with 900 metres to run. When questioned regarding the performance, trainer/driver M Edmonds explained the gelding had failed to handle the slushy track.
RHYTHMIST broke again on the final bend losing its chance. Driver K Butt reported that the gelding had been unsuited to the slushy track conditions.
JAYEES SUPREME commenced to weaken with 400 metres to run.
FRANCO HAMILTON hung inwards on the final bend and was then held up passing the 400 metres behind the weakening JAYEES SUPREME with driver R May having to heavily restrain the gelding.
P Davis as the driver of MIDNIGHT FLYER reported that his gelding had hung outwards throughout the final straight with him having to apply considerable pressure to the inside rein. Because of this Mr Davis was unable to turn his whip in the final straight.
R May (FRANCO HAMILTON) and J Dunn (BETTOR'S POWER) both reported that their respective runners had also been unsuited to today's track conditions.
Driver R Houghton (EXTRA GUINNESS) was shown the films of the run home and issued with a warning to return his foot to the sulky footrest at the earliest opportunity.
 
Race 5 ADORE ME 14/15 HRNZ 4YO &OLDER MARE OF THE YEAR PACE (HCP) Video  Video 
The start was delayed due to MISS LILAC rearing and falling to the track. The mare was cleared to race by the Veterinarian and sent to start from the unruly position. A warning was placed on the standing start manners of MISS LILAC.
SHANTAHLIA KNIGHT, BEST DEFENCE, GOING GOING GONE and ALBUQUERQUE broke at the start.
WEBB ELLIS and ALBUQUERQUE over-raced throughout the middle stages.
CONTRACTUAL ISSUES was held up on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
STONEY EYRE was held up on the final bend and throughout the home straight.
Passing the 150 metres WEBB ELLIS (J Dunn) had to be restrained when crowded for racing room by ALBUQUERQUE (G Pearson). Stewards questioned drivers J Dunn and G Pearson regarding this where it was established that ALBUQUERQUE was hanging inwards under pressure and G Pearson had taken immediate corrective action. Accordingly no further action was deemed necessary.
SHANTAHLIA KNIGHT shifted inwards passing the 100 metres briefly crowding the racing room of TOP BRASS and COYOTE.
COYOTE broke just short of the winning post when placed in restricted room between TOP BRASS and BEST DEFENCE. After viewing the films it was established that BEST DEFENCE had hung out marginally and contacted the near side leg of COYOTE who was already awkwardly placed close to the sulky of TOP BRASS. Stewards could apportion no blame to any one driver or horse and took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.
 
Race 6 THE ORANGE AGENT 14/15HRNZ 3YO FILLY OF THE YEAR MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
HAPPY HEIDI was a late scratching at 10.40am due to the slushy track conditions.
NIKOLA raced wide in the early stages.
MR MEDDLE was held up in the early stages of the run home. Driver C Smith explained that he had not activated the sliding blinds.
EYRE COUNTY stumbled and fell with 100 metres to run dislodging driver M Neilson. When questioned regarding this Miss Neilson explained that the gelding had cross-fired and stood on a shoe. A post-race veterinary examination of EYRE COUNTY revealed a wound to the right front knee which was treated. Trainer M Brown was advised that his gelding had been stood down until such time as it completes a satisfactory trial and a veterinary clearance is supplied. Miss Neilson was checked by St Johns personnel and cleared of any injury.
 
Race 7 STENT 14/15 HRNZ TROTTER OF THE YEAR HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
LITTLE BRO was a late scratching at 2.25pm due to the slushy track conditions.
Permission was granted for INSIGNIFICANT to race with the addition of a pacifier due to the slushy track conditions.
There was a delay to the start of this race due to SHPEEDY and INSIGNIFICANT being unable to correctly address the barriers. Warnings were placed on the barrier records of both runners.
IZINTHEZONE and SHPEEDY broke in the early stages with DANKE being inconvenienced.
CLASSY BOYZ raced keenly near the 1400 metres and had to be steadied by driver R Houghton. CLASSY BOYZ continued to race keenly eventually breaking passing the 1200 metres losing considerable ground.
WILLIAM LANCE dislodged a boot passing the 1400 metres when improving wide on the track.
DANKE weakened passing the 500 metres. When questioned with regard to the performance of this gelding trainer/driver M Jones explained that the gelding had lost some condition over its last three starts however due to it being a poor track worker he was unsure as to whether this would affect its performance today. He added that he was unsure whether or not the gelding would handle today's slushy track conditions and felt it was never comfortable in the running. He advised Stewards that DANKE would now be sent for a spell.
WILLIAM LANCE broke with 250 metres to run.
J Curtin (INSIGNIFICANT) was shown the films of the run home and issued with a warning to return his foot to the sulky footrest at the earliest opportunity.
 
Race 8 HAVE FAITH IN ME 14/15 HRNZ 3YO MALE OF THE YEAR MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
PRINCESS ARTS was a late scratching at 1.50pm due to the slushy track conditions.
S Dolan was charged a $25 colour fee for NUI TOC TIEN.
FAIR DINKUM BROMAC raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
Drivers N McGrath (MAVERICK) and B Orange (NUI TOC TIEN) briefly dropped a foot from the sulky rest on the home turn when activating gear.
B Orange (NUI TOC TIEN) reported that he had carried a punctured tyre over the final stages.
 
Race 9 CHRISTEN ME 14/15 HRNZ HORSE OF THE YEAR MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LIKE A PRAYER raced roughly late in the score up and throughout the early stages losing ground.
After approximately 100 metres CULLECT A GUINNESS was placed in restricted room causing it to lock wheels with HANDLEBAR HANK when shifted down the track by TUSCALOOSA with both runners losing ground. Junior driver J Morrison (TUSCALOOSA) in the presence of Senior Horseman C DeFilippi was shown the films and advised to exercise caution in future.
Passing the 1400 metres CULLECT A GUINNESS (J Dunn) which had been improving three wide raced four wide to the outside of GUNPOWDER until near the 1100 metres. After reviewing the films and speaking with driver J Dunn, the Stewards were satisfied that GUNPOWDER had commenced its shift outwards well in advance of CULLECT A GUINNESS reaching its outside sulky wheel and took the matter no further.
SHEZALEGEND raced wide from the 1400 metres and then weakened passing the 400 metres.
Junior driver J Morrison (TUSCALOOSA) was shown the films and advised to change his whip action.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of BETTY GOLIGHTLY the connections advised the mare had taken benefit from a freshen up.
