Driver B. Edwards was reprimanded in regard to the driving tactics he adopted on DAUNTLESS in that he drove in a manner capable of diminishing his horse's chance. DAUNTLESS was racing one out without cover outside the leader ANY OLD WAY (well supported favourite). The second last 400 metre sectional was run in 28.7 with the final 400 metres run in 28.8. The video coverage was reviewed by the Stewards with driver B. Edwards admitting that he had erred when he pressurised the leader from inside the 800 metres when racing down the back straight and that he should have waited until inside the 600 metres. His horse gave ground in the run home finishing 6th, 7.5 lengths in arrears of the winner ANY OLD WAY.
Driver L. Chin was questioned by Stewards in regard to his perceived lack of vigour when driving DJOKOVIC during the run home. DJOKOVIC finished a head margin in arrears of the winner ANY OLD WAY. Driver L. Chin stated that the gelding had a propensity to shift ground outward and was not trotting squarely throughout the run home and if he applied more pressure, especially with the whip, he felt the horse would have galloped. After reviewing the video coverage the Stewards accepted his explanation. Dr Chin advised that DJOKOVIC would be driven without the use of the whip for its future races.
