NORTHVIEW GAMBLER paced roughly over the concluding stages. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding was in its correct gait when crossing the line.
Driver M Williamson advised that he had carried a punctured sulky tyre throughout the running and because of this did not activate the removable deafeners and sliding blinds on FRANCO CALIPH.
When questioned with regard to the improved performance of NORTHVIEW GAMBLER trainer B Mowbray explained that he had added blinds to the gear of the gelding and shortened its hopples. Mr Mowbray added that this had led to an improved trial on 13th July with Mr Mowbray expecting an improved run tonight following on from that trial.

On the home turn BEST DEFENCE hung inwards and struck a pylon. BEST DEFENCE was then held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
When questioned with regard to the performance of BURN OFF driver M Purvis explained that the gelding paced awkwardly throughout and for that reason he had elected not to activate the hopple shorteners. He added that one shortener then came out passing the 400 metres when his runner was under pressure and conceding ground on the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer B Kerr regarding the recovery of his runner.
Trainer B Kerr has advised Stewards that after its disappointing performance at Addington last Thursday, BURN OFF has recovered well and worked satisfactorily this week.
