Race 5 - GARRY RIVER GOLDEN GIRLS SUNSHINE SERIES (HT 3) MOBILE PACE
Co-Trainer T Chmiel has advised Stewards that following its disappointing run at Rangiora on Sunday, blood tests taken from MILLWOOD PINK LADY have revealed that the mare is suffering from a virus with Mr Chmiel further advising that she will be sent for a six week spell.

Race 1 BISHOPDALE/BUSH INN TAB & TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ALEXY broke in the score up and lost ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
SELESTER raced keenly in the early and middle stages with driver S Blake having some difficulty restraining the gelding to surrender the lead near the 1800 metres.
ALEXY broke passing the 500 metres and lost its chance. When questioned with regard to this driver B Negus explained that he had to restrain his horse when momentarily crowded by MR MEDDLE (D Reardon). Stewards reviewed the films of this and after speaking with driver D Reardon issued him with a warning for the manner in which he drove at this stage of the race.
MR MEDDLE was held up for clear racing room on the final bend.
Passing the 300 metres SCANRECO BAY was shifted inwards by driver A Edge to improve its position but in doing so struck the sulky wheel of TUFFLITTLEROOSTER (M Hallett) costing the gelding several lengths. Stewards spoke with A Edge regarding this incident and after considering his explanation issued him with a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he had driven carelessly. Mr Edge admitted the breach and after considering all submissions, the JCA imposed a fine of $250.
SCANRECO BAY was unable to gain clear racing room until the final 75 metres.
A hopple side carrier broke on SELESTER during the running. This gear was inspected and found to be in good order.
 
Race 2 MONARCHY TROT Video  Video 
TOPNOTCH TITAN broke at the start checking BLINK.
DUSKY EYRE raced wide in the early stages.
Near the 850 metres IT'S HOW YOU USE IT (L McCormick) trotted roughly for several strides when awkwardly positioned close to the sulky wheel of DIANA HARBOUR (K James). As a result of this DIANA HARBOUR carried a flat tyre for the remainder of the race. Stewards spoke with drivers K James and L McCormick regarding this and after considering their submissions issued L McCormick with a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he had driven carelessly at this time. Mr McCormick admitted the breach and after considering all relative evidence, the JCA suspended his horseman's licence for two days from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 12 July 2015.
IT'S HOW YOU USE IT and TOPNOTCH TITAN broke passing the 500 metres.
When questioned with regard to the performance of PRETORIUS driver M Williamson explained the gelding had hung throughout and he had been slightly disappointed with its efforts over the final stages.
 
Race 3 CHANGEOVER FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BAYWATCH hung outwards in the early stages.
CULLENS FIRST MEDDLE was held up for clear racing room on the final bend.
When questioned with regard to the performance of THISGIRLISONFIRE driver J Cox explained the filly had been unsuited to working through the middle stages and would benefit from being driven with a sit throughout in future.
WONEATA G was cleared from the unruly for mobile starts.
 
Race 4 EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
Trainer T May was charged a $25 colour fee for MISSIE CASTLETON.
MISSIE CASTLETON broke at the start and lost considerable ground.
GREAT THINGS HAPPEN and PETERHOF began awkwardly.
JEAN SEBASTIEN was slow in the early stages.
Racing into the first bend near the 2300 metres PYRAMID MAGIC broke and lost significant ground.
LE GARCON weakened passing the 800 metres which inconvenienced MALDARNA who was held up for a considerable time. A post-race veterinary examination of LE GARCON revealed the gelding was suffering atrial fibrillation. The connections were advised a Veterinary clearance must be provided prior to LE GARCON returning to the races. Trainer L Dobbs advised Stewards that the gelding would be retired from racing.
BERKSHIRE SON broke passing the 500 metres.
Driver N Burton (EVANDER D GO) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest near the 500 metres when activating the removable deafeners.
PYRAMID MAGIC broke near the 150 metres.
GREAT THINGS HAPPEN raced roughly over the final stages.
 
Race 5 PROPERTY BROKERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LANDLOCH over-raced throughout the early stages with driver G O'Reilly unable to restrain the gelding instead allowing it to improve forward to race parked near the 1700 metres where it continued to race fiercely. As a result of this LOVE THAT GUEST raced wide until passing the 1400 metres. A warning was placed on the racing manners of LANDLOCH.
LIGHTNING MARY raced greenly between the 800 metres and the 600 metres.
LIGHTNING MARY broke near the 250 metres when attempting to improve wide.
LYNLEY MORRIS and THE GHOST were unable to gain clear racing room throughout the run home.
FAT KENNY'S DROP hung inwards in the early stages of the run home.
Driver C DeFilippi (FAT KENNY'S DROP) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest passing the 200 metres when activating the removable deafeners.
LOVE THAT GUEST was cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
 
Race 6 THE BREEDERS GOLDEN GIRLS TROTTING SERIES HEAT 3 (MOBILE) Video  Video 
THE JINJA NINJA paced in the score up and had to be restrained by driver A Clark and as a result took no competitive part in the race.
KYLIE CASTLETON over-raced in the early stages.
CHEEKY PAT hung inwards under pressure on the final bend and in doing so made contact with several track markers.
KYLIE CASTLETON shifted outwards under pressure and trotted roughly throughout the final straight.
Stewards questioned driver B Williamson (KYLIE CASTLETON) as to whether he could have improved his position at any earlier stage of the race. Mr Williamson explained that his mare had been over-racing and so would not have been suited to racing in the open. Mr Williamson further added he would have been unable to assume the lead from DUCHESSE DE L'AMOUR as he was aware of that mare's tendency to over-race and so felt it was in his best interests to remain in a covered position. Stewards accepted his explanation.
 
Race 7 PORT FM & BTL PASSING LANE PACE Video  Video 
HEZ ONLY THE LONELY and CAESAR'S JADE broke at the start and lost considerable ground. A warning was placed on the standing start record of CAESAR'S JADE. Driver L McCormick advised that he had recommended to trainer R Low that hopple shorteners be added to the mare's gear.
CLARENDON'S LAST paced roughly racing into the first bend.
HANGOVER raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
SLEDGEHAMMER hung inwards rounding the final bend.
TORRID BROMAC hung outwards leaving the final bend.
CHANGE THE NATION and GUCCI CAVALLO hung inwards in the run home.
Driver J Young reported that only one sliding blind had activated on EM AY.
 
Race 8 BROSNAN TRANSPORT LTD TIMARU WINTER CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
The start was delayed due to SANDVIK STAR becoming fractious. A warning was placed on the standing start record of the gelding.
CULLEN KEEFE and JOEY MAGUIRE broke at the start. A warning was placed on the standing start record of JOEY MAGUIRE.
THAT GUY FINN broke shortly after the start for a short distance.
Passing the 150 metres SMOKEN ROMAN broke briefly. Driver C DeFilippi advised that he would be recommending gear changes to the gelding.
SMOKEN ROMAN and NAUGHTY MARAVU hung inwards throughout the run home.
SANDVIK STAR hung inwards late in the run home.
When questioned regarding the performance of NAUGHTY MARAVU trainer/driver G Smith explained that his gelding had been unsuited to the tempo of the race.
 
Race 9 THE BREEDERS GOLDEN GIRLS SUNSHINE SERIES FINAL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SAGE over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to take a trail behind KARANGA RED FANTASY.
ALL DELIGHT gave ground from the 700 metres finishing a distant last. When questioned regarding this driver C Thornley could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was suffering atrial fibrillation. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to ALL DELIGHT resuming.
HIGHLAND REIGN was held up for clear racing room over the concluding stages.
 
Race 10 EAST END ENGINEERING PACE Video  Video 
The murphy blind was removed from VAI STAR prior to the start after warming up unfavourably.
CIMARRON and BOUNDARY ROW broke at the start and settled at the rear of the field.
BANORA BOY (T Chmiel) raced roughly and had to be restrained near the 2400 metres when racing in restricted room to the inside of HAPPY AS LARRY (J Cox). Stewards spoke with drivers T Chmiel and J Cox regarding this where it was established that Mr Chmiel had made an attempt to hold the trail behind MEDIA QUEEN however had been beaten to that position by HAPPY AS LARRY. Mr Chmiel immediately attempted to restrain his gelding however it began to over-race and had to be heavily restrained. After viewing the films Stewards took the matter no further.
VAI STAR raced wide in the early stages and paced roughly near the 2100 metres.
LOOSE CANNON hung inwards on the bend near the 1000 metres when attempting to improve its position.
VAI STAR paced roughly passing the 500 metres and broke for a short distance. Driver R Close advised the filly had hung throughout and struggled on each of the bends.
CANNDEW and LOOSE CANNON hung inwards on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
