Stewards questioned driver D Dunn (CUDDLY JESS) in relation to the manner in which he drove in the initial stages of the run home. Mr Dunn explained the mare had broken in the early stages and continued to trot roughly during the event. Mr Dunn further added the mare had travelled well into the straight despite being rough in its gait and when tried with the whip over the concluding stages failed to respond. | |
Authorisation of 1st, 2nd and 5th placing's being awarded to MATATOKI, CUDDLY JESS and SQUIRE JOHN were withheld until Stewards were satisfied the respective runners had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations during the event. | |

When questioned regarding the gelding's performance, driver G O'Reilly advised the gelding had panicked after he had activated the hopple shorteners which had struck the horse on the leg causing it to over-race. | |
BRUTE UTE ANVIL and MCARDLE ROYALE were held up rounding the final bend. | |
BURN OFF brushed a pylon rounding the final bend. | |
Passing the 350 metres MADDISON HILL was placed in restricted room momentarily when BRUTE UTE ANVIL hung outwards when shifting ground. | |

When questioned regarding the performance of BIRD OF PARADISE, driver T Williams explained after being checked at the 500 metres he had lost momentum at a vital stage. Mr Williams further added he was not overly disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to detect any obvious abnormalities. | |

When questioned regarding the performance of the favourite UNYIELDING SPIRIT, driver S Golding advised the mare had been flat throughout the event. Stewards requested a veterinary examination which failed to detect any obvious abnormalities. | |
