An information was served on trainer G Small alleging that he is in breach of Rule 864(2)(d) in that he failed to affix the bandage on the near-hind leg of MAJOR CLASSIC so as not to come adrift. The charge was admitted and the JCA imposed a fine of $100.00.

Race 1 VAN DYKS BEDDING EXTRAVAGANZA AMATEUR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
There were no claims lodged for OUR SOUTHERN MAN.
FLANYATTICE (favourite) settled at the rear, improved three wide with 550 metres to run but was forced to race five wide rounding the final bend and ran on to finish 9th.
HANDLEBAR HANK, WITH A VENGEANCE and LUCKY JOHN were all held up rounding the final bend and throughout the run home.
Amateur Horsewoman S Wigg reported that she was unable to activate the removable deafeners and sliding blinds on WITH A VENGEANCE.
Amateur Horseman T Thorby advised that he was unable to activate the removable deafeners on HANDLEBAR HANK.
 
Race 2 VAN DYKS FLOORING XTRA MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
PRINCESS SOPHIA was approximately two lengths out of position at the start.
TOURMALET broke shortly after the start inconveniencing ROCKY SIX and MEANDER WITH PEGASUS, with MEANDER WITH PEGASUS taking evasive action wider on the track. TOURMALET failed to settle and was pulled up. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of TOURMALET.
PRINCESS SOPHIA broke passing the 700 metres losing its chance.
ROCKY SIX broke passing the 500 metres losing its chance.
 
Race 3 BAYLEYS MATAMATA MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
STARS DELIGHT lay out at the start shifting out onto SLEEPING BEAUTY which in turn shifted outward onto HEY KNOWITALL with both of these horses galloping. WISE GODDESS was also inconvenienced in this incident. HEY KNOWITALL recovered to settle toward the rear whereas SLEEPING BEAUTY lost considerable ground and its chance. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of STARS DELIGHT.
HEY KNOWITALL broke free of interference passing the 300 metres.
LUNA DE MIEL (D McGowan) broke inside the 50 metres after its hind leg contacted the wheel of the sulky of ELECT TO GO (P Butcher) which was racing on its inside. Reviewing the video coverage established that ELECT TO GO was inclined to lay out when racing under pressure and LUNA DE MIEL also shifted inward when racing under pressure. Co-trainer/driver D McGowan advised that LUNA DE MIEL would be retired as a racing proposition.
 
Race 4 VAN DYKS BEDS R US HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
There were no claims lodged for DRAGON LADY.
TON TINE broke at the start recovering quickly after losing several lengths.
MEYER LANSKY broke for several strides at the start.
CHOSEN PATH and JAGERMEISTER broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
MADAM SPRINGFIELD broke approaching the first bend when in the lead veering outwards sharply causing interference to IDLE EYRE with IDLE EYRE failing to settle losing its chance. MADAM SPRINGFIELD broke again approaching the 700 metres. A warning was placed on the racing manners of this mare.
PHILADELPHIA H broke passing the 400 metres.
MIGHTY SUNNY, which was full of running, broke when racing in the trail when attempting to shift inwards into the passing lane.
 
Race 5 CLASSIC BUILDERS TAURANGA MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LOFTY BROGDEN (D Butcher) improved to challenge for the lead when racing one out without cover approaching the 2000 metres resulting in the leader OPTING OPTIONS ( S Abernethy) responding by quickening the pace. As a result the trailing HERE'S SHIFTY (Z Butcher) was unable to maintain the trailing position despite driver Z Butcher's efforts. This provided the opportunity for LOFTY BROGDEN to cross to the trail in behind the leader OPTING OPTIONS.
TIGER TAMER approaching the 500 metres, broke for several strides when racing towards the rear after there was an easing of the pace in the one out line.
THREE TRICKS weakened from inside the 500 metres which impeded the progress of PURE CHRISTIAN.
FRANCO NIKAU the favourite was eased towards the rear after the start and was improved three wide without cover from inside the 1100 metres to race one out without cover at the 500 metres. Approaching the 300 metres this gelding was racing under pressure and broke for a couple of strides losing its momentum finishing well back. A post-race veterinary examination established that the horse had cross-fired and struck its inside near-fore pastern. Stewards reviewed the video coverage with driver S Reid who stated that FRANCO NIKAU hung badly rounding the final bend and lay in on top of LOFTY BROGDEN (D Butcher) which was attempting to improve outwards on his inside. Mr Reid said that LOFTY BROGDEN had the advantage on his runner and was entitled to shift ground outwards and that in normal circumstances his horse should have been able to steer outwards with this runner. A warning was placed on the racing manners of FRANCO NIKAU.

SHEZA SPRINGFIELD was inclined to over-race in the middle stages.
SOUL MAN weakened inside the 500 metres impeding the progress of A CHANCE TO DREAM.
 
Race 7 WAITOMO CLUB MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
AQUICKONE broke early in the score up recovering to take its position at the start.
AQUICKONE and IDEALISTIC were held up rounding the final bend.
 
Race 8 PROLIFE FOODS HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
There were no claims lodged for WESTBURN COURAGE.
A four minute delay to the start resulted when NO WAY ELSE reared and swung sideways coming into contact with WESTBURN COURAGE and becoming entangled in the hopples of that runner. Both runners were cleared to start by the Veterinary Surgeon. A warning was placed on the standing start manners of NO WAY ELSE.
ELISAVETA broke at the start losing considerable ground.
ART I SPECIAL broke shortly after the start losing its chance.
NO WAY ELSE was held up early in the run home. Driver A Donnelly reported that she did not activate the removable deafeners.
PRINCESS KATE, ELISAVETA and CULLIES DELIGHT were held up over the final stages.

FRANCO SANTIAGO which was racing keenly in the trail was held up rounding the final bend by the weakening leader RUEBE ROCK STAR.
