Race 1 TYRELAND BLENHEIM/WAIRAU COVERS MAIDEN TROT Video  Video 
REDWOOD INVASION, DUSKY EYRE and IT'S HOW YOU USE IT broke at the start or over the early stages
YANKEE COMMANDO broke when racing keenly in the trail passing the 1600 metres.
REDWOOD INVASION broke briefly when challenging for the lead near the 150 metres, again breaking losing its chance passing the 60 metres shifting inwards and hampering MONTMORENSY momentarily.
Authorisation of 3rd place being awarded to YANKEE COMMANDO was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the breaking horse regulations when breaking passing the 1600 metres.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of IZINTHEZONE Trainer/driver K Cameron explained that his mare trotted the entire trip, appreciated the smaller field and is better coming from the back when saved for one run.
LITTLE MISS trotted roughly over the concluding stages.
IT'S HOW YOU USE IT broke again near the 1600 metres.
IT'S HOW YOU USE IT was placed on the unruly for future standing start events at the request of the trainer.
 
Race 2 GROVE ROAD SUPER LIQUOR MAIDEN PACE Video  Video 
GUPTA'S CULLEN and DOVER DELIGHT were fractious prior to the start and were reluctant to take up their rightful position with GUPTA'S CULLEN breaking losing its chance.
SHARDS HALO and DELIGHTFUL JACK tangled at the start.
NICKELBACK hung outwards throughout when leading.
COLLECTION raced keenly near the 800 metres and became awkwardly positioned to the inside of HANGOVER.
CONTRACTUAL ISSUES was held up until late in the run home.
NICKELBACK broke briefly over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room when CONTRACTUAL ISSUES (R Holmes) shifted ground inwards. Driver R Holmes was warned for the manner in which he shifted ground.
DELIGHTFUL JACK hung inwards throughout the run home resulting in SHARDS HALO, JUDYS MCARDLE and VAI STAR all having to be steadied just short of the winning post.
The connections of NICKELBACK advised they would be making gear alterations for the second day.
 
Race 3 LEE AND LAURIE WILDE MAIDEN MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
REBEL RICHIE was back in the score up and then broke once the start was effected. The connections were warned to improve their gelding's mobile manners.
GO FELLA GO raced keenly throughout
BALLYMORE BOY raced three wide without cover from the 1200 metres.
GO GIRL was held up in the initial stages of the run home with driver R May advising he did not activate the sliding blinds.
 
Race 4 AON NZ MAIDEN MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
DESIRABLE STYX broke over the concluding stages refusing to settle.
Stewards questioned driver W Higgs (ZENA MAC) in regard to his driving of the mare at the 800 metres and in particular him not improving ZENA MAC when the opportunity existed for him to do so. In explanation Mr Higgs stated that ZENA MAC is a mare which is best suited to making one finishing run and it had been his intention to track WONEATA G into the race when that runner made a forward move at the 700 metres. However shortly after WONEATA G had been forced wider on the track and had been unable to progress forward this leaving ZENA MAC awkwardly placed near the rear. Given all the circumstances the Stewards accepted Mr Higgs's explanation.
Driver R May advised he did not activate the pull down blinds on the winner FERNLEIGH HANNAH.
CHEROKEE RED was inconvenienced passing the 100 metres by the breaking of DESIRABLE STYX and had to steady and shift in.
DONEGAL STAR GRETCH was held up early in the run home.
 
Race 5 THE HITS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
PAMMYS BOY broke at the start and again when negotiating the first bend.
COLONEL KLINK, ANOTHER DELIGHT and BACARDI N COKE broke racing into the first bend.
YOUNG STRANGER broke passing the 1400 metres.
THANKSFORPLAYING broke passing the 1200 metres and again on a number of occasions.
GAEL LUDLOW was held up passing the 600 metres when behind the weakening MISTRESS CASTLETON.
COLONEL KLINK broke briefly near the 550 metres.
SANTORINI SUNSET broke passing the 250 metres.
YOUNG STRANGER broke over the finishing line.
ANOTHER DELIGHT was placed on the unruly for future standing start events at the trainer's request.
Following the event Stewards lodged a protest into the 4th placed YOUNG STRANGER alleging the gelding had galloped for an excessive distance passing the 1400 metres. The protest was not contested with the Judicial Committee disqualifying YOUNG STRANGER from 4th place.
A vet examination on BACARDI N COKE revealed the gelding to be lame. A vet clearance would be required prior to the BACARDI N COKE resuming.
 
Race 6 RENWICK MEAT MARKET HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
MR MEDDLE, MOTU LIGHTNING LASS, INCHBONNIE LAD and REKLAW SUPREME broke at the start.
SANS LE SOU had to take evasive action approaching the 2100 metres to avoid the breaking MR MEDDLE.
REKLAW SUPREME was held up rounding the turn in the early part of the run home.
TILLY BROMAC was held up near the 250 metres and had to shift inwards near the 200 metres to obtain clear racing room.
When questioned regarding the performance of SANS LE SOU driver R Alfeld could offer no tangible reason for the performance.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to Good.
 
Race 7 GILL CONSTRUCTION MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
NOTHINGTOLAUGHABOUT broke passing the 1600 metres and again broke at the 1000 metres. A subsequent vet examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore. A vet clearance would be required prior to the NOTHINGTOLAUGHABOUT resuming.
EXPRESSO MARTINI paced roughly passing the 250 metres.
Driver D Dunn advised he did not activate either the hopple shorteners and removable deafeners on the winner MACH DENARIO
BIRD OF PARADISE was held up passing the 500 metres until near the 250 metres.
Stewards questioned driver J Cox in relation to his driving of ASTRO BOY between the 800 metres and the 400 metres where an opportunity existed for him to improve his position. In explanation Mr Cox stated that this was only the second run from his stable and the first time he had driven ASTRO BOY in a race. He was of the opinion that the gelding was best suited when saved for one run and was of the view that had he attempted to improve prior to the 600 metres when an opportunity existed, this may have been detrimental to his chances. Mr Cox's explanation was noted.
REAL COOL DUDE was held up rounding the final bend when awkwardly placed near the rear on the marker line.
 
Race 8 EVAN JONES CONSTRUCTION MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Trainer M Shinn agent M O'Brien was issued with a minor infringement notice when failing to present ART EXHIBIT with the notified removable deafeners being fined $100.
LETTING GO was held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
HAPPY AS LARRY was held up late in the run home with driver J Cox advising he didn't activate the removable deafeners.
BURN OFF broke over the concluding stages with driver C Thornley advising the gelding had struck a knee.
 
Race 9 PETER YEALANDS WINES WINTER CUP PRELUDE (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
A false start was declared when THAT GUY FINN and LILAC DESIRE locked wheels immediately prior to the start being effected.
At the restart SANDVIK STAR swung sideways and inconvenienced SMOKEN ROMAN and NIKOLA.
Driver S Ottley advised she received a punctured sulky wheel during the event and advised she did not activate the removable deafeners.
THAT'S HUNTING PINK over raced in the middle stages.
GRADUATE UNDER FIRE was held up rounding the final bend in the early part of the run home.
SANDVIK STAR broke passing the 100 metres. The connections were advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding's racing manners.
The whips of driver B Butt (WHYAMIBETTOR) and R Close (SANDVIK STAR) became entangled after SANDVIK STAR had broken.
THAT GUY FINN was held up rounding the bend and had to be taken wider near the 150 metres to obtain clear racing room.
 
Race 10 SPEIGHTS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
FRANCO SALISBURY hung outwards from the 500 metres and ran out in the home straight with driver D Dunn being unable to fully test the gelding.
PERISSA gave ground over the concluding stages with driver M Jones reporting that he believed something was amiss with the mare. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination which revealed general soreness. A vet clearance would be required prior to PERISSA resuming.
