Race 9 - RON BROWN JEWELLERS TROT
Trainer J Kennett has contacted Stewards to advise that contrary to what was reported to Stewards subsequent to this race ONE YANKEE HALL had not been sent for a spell. He added that his filly had been set aside for a few days where it recovered well from a minor respiratory infection and its work since had pleased him. ONE YANKEE HALL will now take its place in the 3YO Ruby on Jewels day.

Race 1 CHRISTCHURCH CASINO MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CONVERSION raced keenly in the early stages.
BEVAN'S CULLEN broke passing the 1500 metres and lost ground. When questioned regarding this driver/co-trainer M Purdon reported that the gelding had panicked and it was his intention to now send the horse for a spell. A warning was placed on the racing record of BEVAN'S CULLEN.
I WILL ROCK YOU raced greenly on the bend near the 1000 metres.
DREAMY DAMIEN hung outwards throughout the final straight causing driver B Butt some difficulty.
The all clear was delayed until Stewards confirmed that BEVAN'S CULLEN had not been in breach of the Breaking Horse Regulations in the middle stages.
 
Race 2 IRT TROT Video  Video 
CARIBBEAN FIZZ, YANKEE COMMANDO, HENLEY PARK, SQUIRE JOHN and DEBANEYRE broke at the start.
FAMILY NIGHT and YANKEE COMMANDO broke rounding the first bend.
FAMILY NIGHT and IZINTHEZONE broke near the 2100 metres.
YANKEE COMMANDO and SQUIRE JOHN broke passing the 2000 metres.
SQUIRE JOHN again broke near the 1250 metres.
UNYIELDING SPIRIT hung outwards throughout the middle stages.
IZINTHEZONE and FAMILY NIGHT broke passing the 900 metres.
Driver K James admitted using his whip excessively in the run home when driving DIANA HARBOUR. After viewing the films and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA suspended Mr James horseman's licence for 3 days up to and including 7 June 2015.
 
Race 3 CHRISTIAN CULLEN FFA MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The start was delayed due to DALTON BROMAC requiring the services of the blacksmith.
SKY MAJOR was back a length at the start. Driver B Purdon was spoken to and advised to make a better effort in future.
QUICK AS A TRICK raced fiercely through the middle stages causing driver C DeFilippi considerable difficulty. As a result of this QUICK AS A TRICK struck the sulky wheel of BRILLIANT STRIKE passing the 1000 metres with that wheel deflating and coming free of the rim. A warning was placed on the racing record of QUICK AS A TRICK. The connections advised they would be making gear changes prior to resuming.
C DeFilippi dropped his foot in the early stages of the run home when driving QUICK AS A TRICK. Mr DeFilippi was advised to make a greater effort to correct this in a more timely manner in future.
A post-race veterinary examination of DALTON BROMAC including an endoscopic examination revealed that the gelding had bled. Trainer B Hill was advised that the gelding had now been stood down for one month and must trial satisfactorily before returning to the races.
 
Race 4 METROPOL TROT Video  Video 
There was a delay to the start due to several horses displaying poor barrier manners.
BIG EARS broke at the start.
DONSMEDAD and KYLIE CASTLETON broke after about 150 metres with KYLIE CASTLETON being retired from the race.
THE ZIGMEISTER raced keenly in the middle stages.
PETITE ROYAL weakened passing the 700 metres. When questioned with regard to the performance driver C DeFilippi explained the mare had travelled indifferently throughout and despite working during the middle stages he had been disappointed with her efforts. Trainer R Holmes was also unable to offer any explanation for the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
On the bend near the 500 metres K D MUSCLES hung inwards and struck several track markers.
 
Race 5 CERTIFIED BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF NZ PACE Video  Video 
There was a delay to the start when FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ breached the barriers with the field having to be re-assembled.
LITTLE LION MAN, MAJOR PATRON, TOP BRASS, VALOR LUSTRE and MR MEDDLE broke at the start with SANDVIK STAR being checked by MAJOR PATRON which shifted ground outwards. LITTLE LION MAN was retired from the event.
Passing the 1500 metres GROOMSMAN shifted outwards causing the improving SANDVIK STAR to be taken to a four wide position. Stewards questioned drivers L Lester (GROOMSMAN) and R Close (SANDVIK STAR) regarding this incident and after doing so issued Miss Lester with a charge under Rule 869(4)(6)(b) and (c) the details of which were that Miss Lester had been in breach of the Push Out Rule by improving at this stage. Miss Lester assisted by M House admitted the breach and after viewing the films and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA suspended her Junior Horsewoman's Licence for three days up to and including 7 June 2015.
MR MEDDLE weakened passing the 500 metres.
TAKE AFTER ME shifted outwards on the final bend placing TOP BRASS in restricted room who then blundered after making contact with the sulky of LURAH. J Markham as the driver of TAKE AFTER ME will be spoken to regarding this in the coming days.
When questioned with regard to the performance of TAKE AFTER ME driver J Markham explained that he had been disappointed with the efforts of his gelding and he could offer no excuse for the seemingly disappointing run. Mr Markham added that the connections would be having blood taken this week. Stewards will follow up with trainer G Scott regarding the horse's recovery.
 
Race 6 RNP HOMES LTD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LUCKY LUCIANO raced roughly in the early stages.
CURLIMORE raced wide throughout the early and middle stages.
SHARDS HALO raced keenly in the middle stages.
HUNTER BROMAC had to be restrained passing the 700 metres when awkwardly positioned between LUCKY THREE and PAUL'S VERDICT. M Neilson as the driver of HUNTER BROMAC was cautioned for allowing her runner to improve when insufficient room existed.
CURLIMORE weakened passing the 400 metres. When questioned with regard to the performance of his colt trainer/driver N McGrath could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up the recovery of this horse with trainer N McGrath.
VOLATILE LAVRA weakened on the final bend and hung in and contacted several track markers. As a result of this HUNTER BROMAC was held up and had to be restrained.
P McClelland was spoken to regarding the use of his whip throughout the run home on CHRISTIAN LADY.
 
Race 7 COCA-COLA AMATIL FILLIES & MARES HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
LITTLE TESS shifted outwards abruptly shortly after the start causing heavy checks to CARRICKMANNON and GOSHAWK. SANS LE SOU also had to shift ground in consequence. A warning was placed on the barrier record of LITTLE TESS.
HIGHLAND REIGN began awkwardly and shifted outwards in the early stages losing a considerable amount of ground.
Near the 1000 metres HIGHLAND REIGN had to be restrained when awkwardly positioned to the inside of SANS LE SOU. When questioned with regard to the performance of SANS LE SOU trainer/driver R Alfeld could offer no explanation but advised he had been slightly disappointed with her run. Stewards will speak with Mr Alfeld again in the coming days regarding her recovery.
 
Race 8 FIRE FIGHTING PACIFIC MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
RAPHOE broke racing into the first turn and was restrained by driver R Houghton. A final warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
CORROBOREE broke near the 1900 metres and lost considerable ground.
CORROBOREE again broke near the 1250 metres again losing considerable ground. When questioned regarding the performance of his gelding trainer/driver G Smith advised that the rein pricker had pulled through to the saddle ring and added that he would be making gear changes prior to resuming. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
RAPHOE hung inwards under pressure on the final bend and struck pylons.
LEADING THE WAY was unable to gain clear racing room throughout the run home.
 
Race 9 GRANITE BENCHTOP COMPANY HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
A false start was declared when TART N TIGHTS became entangled in the barriers which were dragged for a distance in the early stages.
WATERLOO SUNSET broke briefly in the early stages.
WATERLOO SUNSET again broke racing into the first bend causing the entire to lose ground. As a result of this LUCKY FORTUNE was checked and taken wider on the track with that gelding then racing roughly for several strides.
WATERLOO SUNSET raced roughly on the final bend when attempting to improve wide on the track.
XMAS JOYELLA broke passing the 200 metres.
 
Race 10 PLAYADDINGTON123.COM CONTEST MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MUSIC had to be steadied on the bend near the 2100 metres when racing to the inside of JOEY MAGUIRE. R Houghton was shown the films and reprimanded for the manner in which he drove at this stage.
MUSIC broke passing the 1900 metres. When questioned regarding this driver C DeFilippi explained the hopple shorteners had become entangled in the gelding's gear.
LIVURA raced roughly passing the 500 metres and had to be steadied by driver B Orange.
When spoken to regarding the performance of SECRET LOTION stable representative J Dunn advised that it was his opinion the mare had been unsuited to the 2600 metre distance and after considering her racing record, advised that it was their intention to restrict the horse to shorter course racing in its immediate future.
 
Race 11 BLUE STAR TAXIS PACE Video  Video 
BUONO AMICI, SHARD DIEGO and LAVROS CASH broke at the start.
DELIGHTFUL JACK struck pylons racing into the first turn when placed in restricted room to the inside of HONEY SMITH who was shifting down the track and then hung inwards despite the efforts of driver G O'Reilly.
POLLYANNA BLUE CHIP raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
BUONO AMICI weakened passing the 800 metres. A warning was placed on the mare's racing performance.
Driver G O'Reilly reported that HONEY SMITH had over-raced throughout.
Driver D Dunn reported that he did not activate the removable deafeners on the winner STUNIN DUDE.
