Race Comments
Race 1 MONARCHY & PORT FM TROT Video  Video 
CARIBBEAN FIZZ, NATIVES BRITE GEM, NATIVES LASTING LOVE and SQUIRE JOHN broke at the start.
The outside number on I ASKED NICELY came adrift shortly after the start and hung loose from the horse's gear.
On the first bend near the 2200 metres MASTER MONARCHY broke briefly and lost ground.
SQUIRE JOHN broke passing the 2000 metres.
CARIBBEAN FIZZ trotted roughly rounding the final turn.
SQUIRE JOHN again broke passing the 200 metres.
MASTER MONARCHY had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the run home.
P Borcoskie (HENLEY PARK) was spoken to regarding his use of the whip over the final stages and advised to modify his action.
The removable deafeners were not activated on HENLEY PARK. Driver P Borcoskie was cautioned for not notifying Stewards at the earliest opportunity.
MISSIE CASTLETON was removed from the unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer L Marshall.
 
Race 2 BROSNAN TRANSPORT PASSING LANE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
JOHN DOE paced roughly on the first bend and then broke losing ground.
Racing past the 1600 metres MUSTANG BULLITT had to be steadied when LAVROS CASH shifted outwards ahead of it into the two wide line. MUSTANG BULLITT then over-raced from this point onwards.
RILEY DYLAN weakened passing the 400 metres and returned to the enclosure with a punctured near side tyre and tube which had come free of the rim.
 
Race 3 MAINLAND MINERALS PACE Video  Video 
The field was turned away to reassemble due to WHITNEY H rearing. This filly was sent to start from the outside of the unruly horses. A warning was placed on the barrier record of WHITNEY H.
At the start JAYEES SUPREME swung sideways and lost considerable ground.
TEXAS RULER and NICK RIVIERA broke at the start.
SWEET SENORA broke racing into the first bend and shifted outwards causing MATTY GROVES, SUPERSHAKES, LISTENTOTHEMUSIC and NICK RIVIERA to race wider on the track.
LISTENTOTHEMUSIC broke nearing the 1800 metres inconveniencing CHAL SHOCKED and NICK RIVIERA and losing its chance.
TEXAS RULER was inclined to hang inwards and race greenly rounding the final bend and through the early stages of the run home.
STUNIN DUDE broke with approx 60 metres to run and continued on in a gallop across the finishing line.
A protest was lodged against the 1st placing of STUNIN DUDE under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations alleging this gelding broke in excess of 50 metres over the concluding stages The connections did not contest the protest and STUNIN DUDE was disqualified by the JCA.
 
Race 4 FLAIR (INC) GIRLS 'N GIGS PACE Video  Video 
GEE JAY EASTER broke as the start was effected and shortly afterwards shifted inwards and inconvenienced HUDSON SULLY. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
GEE JAY EASTER broke again approaching the 1100 metres.
LITTLE LION MAN paced roughly and had to be steadied passing the 200 metres.
Junior Horsewoman I Lee (FASTROUNDTOWN) was spoken to regarding her use of the whip on a runner which was out of contention.
I Lee reported that FASTROUNDTOWN had hung during the running.
 
Race 5 LONE STAR RICCARTON YOUNG DRIVERS CHAMPS MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
THE EARTH MOVED trotted roughly racing into the first turn.
MOKOSUN raced wide through the early and middle stages.
LE GARCON commenced to tire from the 600 metres. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing performance.
MOKOSUN weakened passing the 350 metres causing PRICE OF FAME to be held up and driver J Aiken to shift his position outwards.
BERKSHIRE SON broke briefly in the early stages of the run home.
SPEEDY EARL was held up passing the 200 metres and had to shift outwards to continue to improve.
Stewards questioned Junior Horseman J Aiken (PRICE OF FAME) regarding his decision to shift outwards from the trail near the 300 metres as opposed to waiting for the passing lane. Mr Aiken explained that at this time MOKOSUN had commenced to weaken and he was of the opinion he would have lost too much ground in maintaining that position and so attempted to find clear racing room to his outside. After reviewing the films and considering his explanation, Stewards deemed that Mr Aiken's decision at this time was not unreasonable and took the matter no further.
Stewards spoke with Junior Horseman A Poutama (MOKOSUN) who was assisted by B Orange, regarding his gelding which had been the leader, shifting into the passing lane soon after entering the home straight. Mr Poutama explained that he had heard calling from J Aiken (PRICE OF FAME) which was racing in restricted room to his outside. Mr Poutama added that he was in a position to relieve that pressure by shifting inwards slightly however this had briefly impeded SPEEDY EARL which was attempting to improve. After reviewing the films and considering his explanation, Stewards took the matter no further.
 
Race 6 CHANGEOVER FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GLITZY GAL raced roughly in the early stages and had to be steadied by driver D Dunn.
SHARDS HALO over-raced when positioned parked through the middle stages.
C Thornley (VOLATILE LAVRA) dropped his foot in the early stages of the run home when attempting to activate gear.
GLITZY GAL was unable to gain clear racing room throughout the final straight. Driver D Dunn reported that he had not been able to remove the deafeners as a result.
When questioned with regards to the performance of RINGARINGAROZIE co-trainer G Court expressed disappointment and could only offer that the filly's hard run at its previous start had taken more of a toll than he had anticipated.
 
Race 7 EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
On the first bend RAPHOE broke after becoming awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of TINTINARA. Stewards questioned driver R Houghton regarding this with Mr Houghton explaining he had some difficulty containing the gelding over the early stages due to it over-racing and throwing its head. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
Racing past the 1400 metres TINTINARA raced keenly and shifted outwards into the three wide line.
Driver D Dunn reported that he did not activate the earplugs on the winner TINTINARA.
 
Race 8 UNIQUE HAIR & BEAUTY HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
CARRICKMANNON and NIKOLA broke as the start was effected.
Nearing the 1600 metres KASHIN broke losing ground and its position in the field. LOTTIE FRANCO, TUBBY JIM, CARRICKMANNON and NIKOLA were all inconvenienced in consequence.
IDEAL ARDEN which raced parked for the majority of the event commenced to tire from the 500 metres.
Racing past the 50 metres JACK HAMMER broke and was immediately restrained by driver J Smolenski with the gelding returning to its gait approximately 10 metres prior to the finishing line. Stewards delayed the all clear until they were satisfied the horse had not broken in excess of 50 metres and had lost ground when galloping.
Driver I Lee reported that due to the cord becoming entangled the sliding blinds had not functioned on LOTTIE FRANCO.
M Neilson (KASHIN) was spoken to regarding her use of the whip in the run home.
 
Race 9 RON BROWN JEWELLERS TROT Video  Video 
Trainer G Smith was issued with a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting OCTOBER RAIN without the half hopples that had been notified.
A false start was declared due to the tapes failing to activate.
ONE YANKEE HALL broke briefly as the start was effected.
OCTOBER RAIN broke after the start losing a considerable amount of ground.
SHADOW GALLEON and ARANNALEA broke racing into the first bend losing ground.
Nearing the 2000 metres MEL GIBSON broke and was retired from the event.
SALTWATER GOLD raced roughly through the back straight on the first occasion and then broke passing the 1600 metres losing further ground and its chance.
MONKEY'S WAY trotted roughly nearing the 1600 metres with this gelding breaking on several occasions from the 1100 metres.
ONE YANKEE HALL proceeded to tire from the 400 metres inconveniencing STAR COMMANDO which was held up for a considerable distance. When questioned regarding the performance of ONE YANKEE HALL driver S Golding explained that the filly had raced fiercely throughout causing him considerable difficulty. Trainer J Kennett advised that it was his intention to send the filly for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery rate and that the filly was displaying the early signs of a respiratory infection.
A post-race veterinary examination of MEL GIBSON revealed damage to a hind suspensory. The connections advised MEL GIBSON would be retired.
 
Race 10 LONE STAR RICCARTON YOUNG DRIVERS CHAMPS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GOSHAWK improved wide from the 1000 metres.
INDIAN ARROW raced keenly on the final bend.
When questioned with regard to the performance of SMOKIN CHICK driver R Close explained that the mare had been unsuited to working hard during the middle stages.
 
Race 11 XCM GROUP & PROPERTY BROKERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The rein pricker was removed from CONVERSION prior to the start.
BROKEN WALLET broke shortly after the start checking GUNPOWDER with both runners losing a considerable amount of ground. The connections of BROKEN WALLET were advised the gelding would be drawn unruly for future mobile starts.
KOTARE MAHDI broke racing into the first bend.
Racing past the 1500 metres CONVERSION raced roughly.
BEVAN'S CULLEN broke racing past the 1300 metres when it was being restrained to take a trail behind the leading CORROBOREE and in doing so contacted that runner's outside sulky wheel. Junior driver M Anderson admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when allowing BEVAN'S CULLEN to contact the sulky wheel of CORROBOREE and break. After viewing the films and considering submissions on penalty the JCA suspended Mr Anderson's Junior Horsemans licence from the conclusion of racing today until the conclusion of racing on the 21st of May (3 days).
DELIGHTFUL JACK hung inwards throughout the run home.
BEVAN'S CULLEN was held up for clear racing room and broke passing the 100 metres when shifting inwards to continue improving.
Stewards questioned H Hunter as the driver of LUCKY THREE regarding his decision to shift outwards on the final bend as opposed to maintaining his position and utilising the passing lane. Mr Hunter advised that his gelding was travelling well and thought it in his best interests to improve at that time however he had been disappointed with the way the horse had responded when placed in clear running. Stewards accepted his comments.
