Prior to it addressing the barrier strand JOHNS ANNE reared and got its front legs over the outside plastic rail. Due to a communication breakdown this mare failed to undergo a veterinary examination prior to the start being effected as requested by the Stewards. This gelding then proceeded to tire from the 450 metres. Stewards questioned driver A Beck in relation to the reason SPINYBACK was able to improve from four back on the fence out into the running line near the 1600 metres. Mr Beck advised he had become concerned SPINYBACK was going to prove difficult to control after this gelding had proceeded to over race round the first bend. Mr Beck added in the interest of safety to his gelding and other runners behind him he requested Mr Barron afford him the opportunity to improve outwards so as not to place himself or trailing runners in a compromising position. Mr Beck's comments were accepted with no further action being warranted other than to warn the racing manners of SPINYBACK.
