Race 1 WESTFIELD HOLDINGS LTD TROT Video  Video 
POPPA DON and BOYZ LET LOOSE broke at the start.
I ASKED NICELY trotted roughly at the start.
LYNETTE THE VET and SUNSPOT broke in the early stages.
SUNSPOT again broke near the 1800 metres.
BOYZ LET LOOSE broke over the crossing and lost its chance.
LITTLE MISS raced wide rounding the first bend.
Driver A Faulks (ARRAN CHIEF) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest near the 300 metres.
ARRAN CHIEF trotted roughly over the concluding stages.
Authorisation of 3rd placing being awarded to ARRAN CHIEF was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had been in the correct gait when its nose reached the winning post.
When questioned regarding the performance of I ASKED NICELY, trainer/driver S Adlam explained that the gelding had been slow at the start due to trotting roughly and after improving wide in the middle stages to race parked, the effort had taken its toll on the gelding to finish the race off competitively.
 
Race 2 GRANITE BENCHTOP CO & ADVANCED JOINERY LTD PACE Video  Video 
There was a delay to the start due to several horses being unable to address their correct barrier positions. Warnings were placed on the barrier records of GEE JAY EASTER and SIOUX WEST.
SIOUX WEST broke briefly at the start hampering WHYCHANGE.
TIGER JOHN broke shortly after the start.
WHYCHANGE broke racing past the 1850 metres.
DAKOTA FRED over-raced near the 1000 metres when being restrained to gain cover.
CHIP GANASSI hung inwards on the final bend.
NOMATTERMEE struck several pylons on the final bend.
GABBY'S STAR broke near the 400 metres when attempting to improve its position to the outside of JUDYS MCARDLE. Stewards questioned drivers C DeFilippi (GABBY'S STAR) and M Edmonds (JUDYS MCARDLE) regarding this incident. After hearing their explanations and viewing the replays, the blame could not be solely attributed to any one horse or driver. Stewards took no further action other than to remind both drivers to exercise care when shifting ground.
GABBY'S STAR hung inwards throughout the run home.
S Ottley as the driver of GEE JAY EASTER reported that she did not activate the removable deafeners on the gelding.
 
Race 3 SUZI MORRISON MEMORIAL & HAPPY BIRTHDAY RHONDA PACE Video  Video 
Trainer N McGrath was issued a Minor Infringement Notice under Rule 858(b) in that he was late to present LISLORD onto the track and was fined $100.
TAKE A GAMBLE and ITSA LEGGY LASS broke at the start.
DREAMCOAT tangled away.
MISS JUDGEFORD shifted inwards abruptly at the start briefly hampering TUTOKO KID.
REAL RAIDER broke in the early stages and shifted outwards resulting in REAL RAIDER and DELIGHTFUL JACK locking wheels. Stewards placed a warning on the barrier record of REAL RAIDER.
DELIGHTFUL JACK raced greenly when being taken towards the lead near the 1700 metres with the gelding shifting wide on the track.
ITSA LEGGY LASS hung inwards when improving three wide in the middle stages.
MISS BROWN raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
Racing towards the 800 metres MISS BROWN which was over-racing was shifted inside the pylons by driver B Butt and retired from the race resulting in checks to DREAMCOAT, TEXAS RULER, TUTOKO KID, MISS JUDGEFORD and TAKE A GAMBLE. When questioned regarding this incident driver B Butt reported that the filly had choked down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing manners of MISS BROWN.
DESIRABLE STYX, SHAR NEE VALE and DREAMCOAT had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
TUTOKO KID paced roughly near the 300 metres.
 
Race 4 MARK ALEXANDER FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SHELLY ANN refused to move in the early stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the filly's mobile barrier record.
EXPRESSIVE VICTOR broke at the start. Stewards placed a warning on the filly's mobile barrier record.
VENETO, FERNLEIGH HANNAH and ALLISON STOKKE raced wide in the early stages.
GIVEMATASTEOFKIWI hung inwards in the early stages of the run home and again over the final 50 metres.
CHAMPAGNE REIGN hung inwards throughout the run home.
When spoken to regarding the performance of JEWELZ driver T Chmiel reported that he had been disappointed with the filly's effort. A post-race veterinary examination of JEWELZ revealed no abnormalities.
Driver N Harris (FERNLEIGH HANNAH) in the presence of senior horseman N McGrath was shown a replay and warned for the manner she used her whip over the concluding stages when out of contention.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of VENETO, trainer J Kennett explained that the filly had raced greenly at its first start and had derived significant benefit from the race. He added that VENETO had trialled impressively against stronger opposition leading into today's race.
 
Race 5 DAKINS RENT-A-LOO MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
FLAGPOLE was unable to leave the pre-race circle with the field and in consequence started several lengths out of position. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
LAVROS CASH broke in the final stages of the score up and lost its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
YIPPE KI YAY broke shortly after the start with a warning placed on the gelding's barrier record.
CHOOSY TART raced wide in the early stages.
RILEY DYLAN paced roughly early in the run home.
BURN OFF hung inwards in the run home before breaking passing the 100 metres when improving wide on the track. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
OLDE OAKE ARNIE was held up for clear racing room for the majority of the run home.
FLAGPOLE hung outwards throughout the home straight.
HOUDINI was placed in restricted room late in the run home by ZENA MAC which was hanging inwards. Driver W Higgs (ZENA MAC) was shown a replay and warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the home straight.
Driver W Higgs (ZENA MAC) admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip excessively in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, Mr Higgs was fined $200 by the JCA.
 
Race 6 TREVINOS RESTAURANT & BAR PACE Video  Video 
RED UNDER FIRE, AS KIWI AS and COURAGE TO FLY broke at the start with AS KIWI AS losing considerable ground.
GIVETHEJOBTOBARNSY raced wide in the early stages.
LACROIX FRANCO hung outwards throughout the home straight and paced roughly.
RED UNDER FIRE was held up in the early stages of the run home.
AS KIWI AS and JONAH JONES were held up for clear racing room until late in the run home.
NOTHINGTOLAUGHABOUT was denied clear racing room throughout the home straight.
DAPPER GEORGE hung inwards throughout the final straight.
Junior driver A Fitzgerald (NOTHINGTOLAUGHABOUT) in the presence of senior horseman J Dunn was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove on the final bend when he elected not to shift outwards and improve his position ahead of the improving SHADOW RIDER. Mr Fitzgerald advised that his mare was best suited when able to be driven with a sit until the final 200 metres at which point it could utilise its short sprint but accepted that the likelihood of gaining a run had been lessened through maintaining his position in the two wide line at this late stage of the race. Mr Fitzgerald added that he had initially made an attempt to shift outwards but had been eased inwards by driver C DeFilippi (SHADOW RIDER) which had impacted on his ability to attempt another shift. After considering the explanation of Mr Fitzgerald and when taking into account his considerable inexperience, Stewards took the matter no further other than to advise him that he had erred by not improving his position outwards and that in future he should not drive in a manner which brings his tactics into question.
 
Race 7 JOAN & PETER COCKS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GEISHA GIRL was a late scratching at 11.44am on veterinary advice.
There was a four minute delay to the start due to the Invercargill HRC running late.
AMOUNIS raced keenly and hung outwards when leading before tiring in the final straight. When questioned regarding the performance of the mare co-trainer P Court advised he was very disappointed and could offer no explanation. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination of AMOUNIS which revealed no abnormalities.
HIGHLAND REIGN shifted inwards passing the 150 metres when being driven out by driver J Young. Miss Young was shown a replay and warned to make a greater effort to keep straight in the run home.
TUBBYS SISTER hung outwards in the run home.
When questioned regarding the performance of LURAH trainer R Holmes explained that the horse was forced to work too hard when racing parked throughout and in his opinion is best driven with a sit.
 
Race 8 B & J SANDFORD AND J & C MCDERMOTT SPECIAL HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
FRANCO HARRISON broke at the start checking MADDISON HILL, TUBBY JIM and DESTINED FOR GLORY. A warning was placed on the standing start manners of the gelding.
CARRICKMANNON hung inwards racing into the first bend despite the efforts of driver G O'Reilly placing WHYAMIBETTOR and K C MONET in restricted room.
IDEAL ARDEN raced wide in the early stages.
CARRICKMANNON again hung inwards on the bend near the 800 metres.
MARSHAL STAR and MIDFREW TARPEDIEM had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
CARRICKMANNON gave ground from the 500 metres finishing a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than a slow recovery rate. Trainer G O'Reilly advised he would have blood tests taken in the coming days and would report the findings to Stewards.
When spoken to regarding the performance of JOE THE HUNTER driver S Golding explained that the gelding which was having its first start since December had peaked on its run over the concluding stages and he felt that the horse would derive significant benefit from the race.
 
Race 9 NORJO MOTORCYCLES & JEMMETT'S POWERTOOL SERVICE PACE Video  Video 
HALSTON BROMAC, REGAL SUZY, JUST BEN, MAXIMUS PRIME, OUTTA SIGHT and IT'S ALL OVER NOW broke at the start.
JUST BEN was held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
JUST BEN hung outwards throughout the run home.
 
Race 10 RON ELLEN MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
DIGGERBOY was slow to begin.
SOLAR SAM, SALTWATER GOLD and THANKSFORPLAYING broke in the early stages with SALTWATER GOLD losing all chance.
Racing into the first bend WILLIE SHINE broke.
CLEAN BREAK hung inwards racing into the first bend.
NATIVE'S BRITE SPARK broke after 300 metres.
BROOKSIDE COLT hung inwards rounding the final bend.
STAR COMMANDO and YOUNG STRANGER were held up in the early stages of the run home.
DIGGERBOY trotted roughly near the 300 metres.
SHELL SEEKER broke passing the 250 metres.
BROOKSIDE COLT was placed in restricted room over the concluding stages after FIREMAN and YOUNG STRANGER had both hung simultaneously.
When spoken to regarding the performance of BLUE DON, driver S Golding advised he was disappointed with the effort of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was suffering from muscle tie up.
 
Race 11 NZ BLOODSTOCK AIRFREIGHT LTD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
JUSTOCLASSIE was a late scratching at 8.45am. Trainer P Bagrie, represented by T Bagrie, admitted a breach of Rule 834(2) in that he failed to scratch JUSTOCLASSIE by the right of re-entry time which resulted in GREENBURN CREEK being denied a start. After hearing submissions on penalty Mr Bagrie was fined $350 by the JCA with $75 of the fine directed to be paid to the Banks Peninsula TC to cover the losing driving fee and $100 to the connections of GREENBURN CREEK in accordance with Rule 1114(2A).
ALL FOR D B broke briefly in the score up.
FRANCO ENVOY hung outwards late in the score up.
In the early stages K C PEDRO (A Hastie) broke when racing between ALAN GOLIGHTLY (C DeFilippi) and ALL FOR D B (A Veint) and lost considerable ground. After reviewing the replays Stewards were unable to apportion blame onto any one driver and accordingly took the matter no further.
LEADING THE WAY, BANDANA and FRANCO NEESON raced wide in the early stages.
FRANCO NEESON continued to race wide in the middle stages.
Driver C DeFilippi briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest of ALAN GOLIGHTLY near the 400 metres.
ALAN GOLIGHTLY hung inwards near the 250 metres simultaneously to CANNDEW shifting ground outwards resulting in ALAN GOLIGHTLY becoming awkwardly placed close to the wheel of CANNDEW.
FRANCO ENVOY was held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
MAYBE FLYIN broke over the concluding stages after tripping on a side carrier which had come adrift and was lapped on by RIGA DOON at the finish line.
A protest lodged by the Stewards under Rule 870(5) against 2nd placing being awarded to MAYBE FLYIN was not contested by the connections and MAYBE FLYIN was relegated to 3rd place by the JCA.
Trainer R Needham was issued a Minor Infringement Notice under Rule 864(2)(d) in that he failed to affix the side carrier on the hopples of MAYBE FLYIN so as not to come adrift and was fined $100.
Driver G Smith (FRANCO NEESON) reported that one hopple shortener cord had become entangled around his horse's leg after being activated.
