Race 3 - PRYDES EASIFEED MOBILE PACE
Trainer C Dalgety advised that TENACIOUS BROMAC had failed to replicate its training efforts on race-days and he was no longer persevering with TENACIOUS BROMAC from his stable. Driver D Dunn further added that TENACIOUS BROMAC had hung throughout the running and was difficult to steer during the running.
Race 11 - JUST ESSENCE CATERING MOBILE PACE
Trainer H Hunter advised the Stewards that VISCOUNTESS was sent for a lengthy spell and the connections advised the filly may be retired with a view to being sent to the broodmares paddock.
The Stewards questioned drivers D White (BEYOND BELIEF) and D Dunn (SAGE) regarding the tactics they drove during the race. Mr. White advised that BEYOND BELIEF had trialed well recently at Rangiora when leading throughout against better performed horses. It was his intention to come out of the gate and settle handy. After reaching the lead early without any resistance he then intended to continue to lead. When SAGE had briefly challenged for the lead he restrained BEYOND BELIEF which then commenced to race keenly. He further advised he was aware SAGE was striking the sulky wheels and over racing and did not wish to hand up the lead. Mr Dunn advised after settling in third place SAGE commenced to over race when striking the sulky wheels. He then elected to improve his position near the 1700 metre mark rather than be caught three deep with a horse which was over racing. He briefly challenged for the lead from the 1600 metre mark until 1500 metres to run when he restrained SAGE. Mr Dunn advised he attempted to improve into the trail but was beaten to that position by the improving VISCOUNTESS and was left in the parked position. SAGE continued to over race before tiring over the final 400 metres. After taking into consideration that the challenge for the lead was for a brief period and that both runners had commenced to over race the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was required.
