Mr White explained he had instructed Mr Orange firstly to ensure the horse began safely and then hopefully gain a covered run into the race. He added to this that he had not anticipated his gelding beginning so swiftly and being in such close proximity to the leaders after the opening 400 metres. Driver B Orange advised that passing the 1900 metres when positioned four back in the running line there had been a noticeable easing of the pace by the leading TROUBLE RIEU and his gelding had begun hanging outwards. Mr Orange said he allowed it to improve forwards and hoped to wrest the lead which he had been able to do.
