Stewards reviewed the running of the above race in particular the driving tactics of Junior Driver D Ferguson when he contested the lead with P TOMADO challenging for this position with V C DELL (D Butcher) over the initial stages of the race. P TOMADO weakened over the concluding stages finishing 8th of 11, 10 lengths in arrears of VC DELL which finished in 3rd placing after a photo finish for 2nd place. P TOMADO failed to reach the lead then raced one out without cover before giving ground. Junior Driver D Ferguson with the assistance of senior Driver P Ferguson was warned by Stewards to exercise a higher standard of judgement in similar circumstances in future and that a repetition may result in a charge.

Race 1 RICKY & JUDY MAY HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
ELSU ATTACK and CONTINENTAL LOVER broke briefly at the start.
CONTINENTAL LOVER broke under pressure early in the run home.
Driver S Doody (IMNOTQUITESURE) was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove leaving the back straight the final time when he elected to attempt to improve into a position to the inside of CONTINENTAL LOVER, which he had been trailing, after that runner was eased wider on the track by SPECIAL FLIGHT. Mr Doody stated that after having over-raced during the middle stages that he had initially shifted out to a four wide position but IMNOTQUITESURE had then felt flat so he elected to shift back down to improve between runners. IMNOTQUITESURE was then briefly held up on the final turn before finishing on when clear into 3rd place.

CHEVRON QUALITY broke during the early stages of the score-up and again at dispatch losing all chance. Trainer J Gommans was advised that CHEVRON QUALITY has been stood down from stake bearing events for 14 days. A warning was also placed against the gelding's mobile barrier manners.
BLACK SANTANA was unable to obtain clear racing room throughout the run home going to the line untested with Driver S Phelan reporting that he did not activate the deafeners.
BRAVE STRANGER, which improved to lead approaching the winning post the first time, shifted out under pressure on straightening for the run home and then continued to lay out before pacing roughly inside the final 100 metres when to the inside of BLACK SANTANA which shifted in marginally.

DESERT STORM broke at the start and settled at the rear.
Driver D Butcher (THANKS CHARLIE) dropped his right foot briefly from the sulky footrest on the home turn when activating gear.
PALAIS ROYAL was tightened just short of the winning post late in the run home when racing between SEE YA, which laid in, and RARANGI JEWEL.
 
Race 4 HAPPY BIRTHDAY DINNY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ONE MORE NIGHT paced roughly for several strides near the 1800 metres when being restrained off the back of SMACKWATER JACK.
HEY KNOWITALL gave ground over the final stages after being caught three wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 5 R S FLOOR COATINGS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SOUL HANOVER hung out throughout the score up and along with MEGATRON was back a length at dispatch. SOUL HANOVER then continued to lay out at various stages of the running.
The nearside sulky tyre on OUTA THE FRIDGE punctured during the running with the tube becoming entangled around the wheel hub near the 400 metres placing this runner at a considerable disadvantage.

MISS BADLANDS was a late scratching at 7.50am on Veterinary advice.
BILLY THE BAD became fractious during the pre-race formation and was reluctant to follow the mobile which resulted in the gelding being a considerable distance out of position at dispatch. A warning was placed against the mobile barrier manners of BILLY THE BAD.
OUR WICKLOW (Favourite) raced outside the leader before tiring over the final stages. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed against this gelding's racing performance.
THATSHOWIE ROLL, which had shown gate speed to lead, hung out racing through the straights and in particular down the back the last time which resulted in LADY MOLLY obtaining an inside run. A warning was placed against the racing manners THATSHOWIE ROLL.
 
Race 7 THE WRIGHT DECORATORS/BILL BOYD & ASSOCIATES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
No claims were lodged for PRIME LEGAL.
IDEALISTIC tended to over-race during the middle stages when outside the leader.
WONDER ANVIL raced in restricted room when held up for clear running until passing the 50 metres before finishing on strongly when clear into 3rd place.
GABBY'S KNIGHT tired over the final stages. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed a swollen right eyelid which required treatment from a veterinarian.
 
Race 8 THE SPEIGHT'S ALE HOUSE MANAWATU CUP (MOBILE PACE) Video  Video 
EYRE HOSTESS broke briefly racing into the first turn losing ground. A final warning was placed against the mare's racing manners.
MACH CRUISER pulled hard during the middle stages when racing back on the inner.
 
Race 9 OUTBACK TRADING/GIRLZONE SYNDICATE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CHEVRON EXCITES became fractious during the pre-race formation and refused to score-up behind the mobile taking no part. Authorisation of placings was withheld until Stewards viewed the replay of the initial stages of the score-up and were satisfied that CHEVRON EXCITES had not been denied a fair start with the gelding deemed to be a runner. Trainer D Gale was advised that a warning would be placed against the mobile barrier manners of CHEVRON EXCITES. Mr Gale advised that he would be making a gear change prior to the gelding resuming.
TAITTINGER ROSE (Favourite) raced without cover early before receiving a trail near the 800 metres but weakened badly over the final stages to finish at the rear. Stewards ordered a post race veterinary examination which revealed that the mare was displaying a poor recovery with connections advising that they would have TAITTINGER ROSE further examined by their Veterinarian in upcoming days.
