General
Stewards questioned the Judge Mr. B Young regarding the last 800 metre time which was recorded for the first race today. After speaking to Mr. Young the Stewards were satisfied the overall time and final 400 metres were correct. Mr Young advised that there were concerns over the 54.1 time which had been recorded for the final 800 metres and he believed the electronic timing had not activated correctly.

Race 10 - LOVERIDGE HOMEKILL MOBILE PACE
Stewards contacted trainer P Ellis regarding the disappointing performance of JUSTAN'S SISTER. Mr. Ellis advised JUSTAN'S SISTER had an elevated heart rate following the race and it was his intention to spell JUSTAN'S SISTER prior to resuming racing.

Trainer G Gibson-Smith admitted a breach of Rule 865(2) in that he failed to notify PEPPERJACK would be wearing sliding blinds with the JCA imposing a $100 fine.

Race 1 KONNECT 2-YEAR-OLD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SKYFALL raced keenly through the early and middle stages when racing in the parked position.
PAT CAMPBELL had to be steadied near the 600 metres when racing in restricted racing room.
Round the final bend HANNA'S BOY was held up by the tiring LOREN FRANCO and SKYFALL.
LOREN FRANCO brushed several pylons when under pressure just prior to the home straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of THREE WAYS driver B Orange advised he was disappointed with the effort however was unable to offer any tangible excuse. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of THREE WAYS which revealed the colt to be showing signs of dehydration.
 
Race 2 AMPELITE NZ HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
OVERCAST was re-handicapped to the 20 metre mark after winning at the Invercargill Harness Racing Club's meeting on the 10th of March.
JACCKA JACK broke at the start.
GOLDEN GATE raced wide through the early stages before reaching the parked position with 1700 metres to run.
ANOTHER CRUSHER hung through the early stages before breaking near the 1300 metres.
GEE UP NEDDY broke when attempting to utilise the Passing Lane near the 200 metres.
GOLDEN GATE and DAVEY'S GIFT both raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
Race 3 FREIGHT SOLUTIONS NZ MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BETTER DELIVER raced greenly when improving three wide near the 1400 metres.
SWEET AS paced roughly rounding the final bend.
SPINYBACK was momentarily held up near the 100 metres.
 
Race 4 NEW ZEALAND STEEL GRADUATION SERIES (HEAT 1) HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
Stewards granted permission for SUNNY DEMON to race without removable deafeners after the gelding had resented them when the connections attempted to put them on in the tie up area prior to the race.
KIWI KEX broke at the start.
CELESTE FRANCO was slow to begin.
ONE COOL CHICK and FILIGREE SHEREE both broke racing into the first bend.
Approaching the 1600 metres RUBY'S JEWEL hung outwards before improving three wide to the parked position.
SUNNY DEMON broke passing the 500 metres when racing in the trail.
 
Race 5 THE HITS 98.8 MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
A false start was declared when NIGHTMARCH broke late in the score up and checked ONEDIN ONYX on the second line. Driver R Swain elected to remain in his allotted position for the restart. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of NIGHTMARCH.
SMITHY over raced in the early stages.
CHRISTIAN GREY raced keenly through the early and middle stages.
Just prior to the home straight BETTOR PAY ME (D Dunn) shifted outwards before commencing to tire early in the run home.
LEIGH MAJOR and ONEDIN ONYX were both held up rounding the final bend.
Following the disappointing performance of favoured runner BETTOR PAY ME the Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which revealed no clinical abnormalities.
Driver R Swain (NIGHTMARCH) reported he received a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
The Stewards questioned D Dunn regarding why he shifted ground outwards prior to the home straight when BETTOR PAY ME commenced to tire. Mr Dunn advised that BETTOR PAY ME had been striking a knee and had commenced to shift outwards on the bend and he believed it was beneficial to not fight the gelding at this point due to it tiring and striking its knee. After hearing Mr Dunn's explanation no further action was required.
 
Race 6 MARSHALL INDUSTRIES/ROOFCRAFT MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MATCH POINT was back off the gate at the dispatch with driver D Dunn being advised to make a greater effort to maintain his position until the start point.
MILLIGAN, LIVY FRANCO and ASTRO BOY were all held up rounding the final bend.
Passing the 250 metres ADD NO INTEREST (B Barclay) shifted ground outwards with BILLY THE BUS (R Swain) having to be restrained. B Barclay was warned for the manner he shifted ground.
STRATEGIC MISS had to be restrained over the concluding stages when running out of racing room.
 
Race 7 KICK THE TYRES/FRAMETEK 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CRACKABELLA was caught three wide without cover over the final 1000 metres.
ART EXHIBIT was held up round the final bend and through the early stages of the home straight before shifting wider on the track for clear racing room.
SAUCHIEHALL was also held up round the final bend and through the early stages of the run home before angling wider on the track near the 100 metres to find clear racing room.
When questioned regarding the performance of VISCOUNTESS driver S Walkinshaw advised the filly felt flat throughout. Trainer H Hunter further advised VISCOUNTESS had pulled up well following the race.
Following this race DONEGAL KAHLUM was treated by the veterinarian after being stung by wasps after the race.
 
Race 8 SOUTHERN BELLE MARES SPEED SERIES FINAL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
THIRD AVENUE was slow to begin.
AL RAZA raced three wide without cover through the early stages before reaching the parked position with approximately 1000 metres to run and then progressed to the lead with approximately 750 metres to run.
ROYAL COUNSEL and B D WINDERMERE were both held up rounding the final bend with ROYAL COUNSEL further held up until shifting ground to obtain clear racing room near the 100 metres.
B D WINDERMERE which was racing in tight quarters had to shift ground inwards near the 100 metres to obtain racing room.
AL RAZA (M Williamson) which was commencing to give ground had to be restrained with approximately 80 metres to run when ROYAL COUNSEL (G Lee) shifted ground inwards simultaneously as SHEEZA SHARK (N Williamson) shifted ground outwards. Horseman N Williamson was warned to ensure he maintains a straight line in the home straight and horseman G Lee was warned for the manner he shifted ground.
 
Race 9 MARSHALL INDUSTRIES WINTON TROTTING CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
Just prior to the tapes being released MY GUY MAC backed away then broke over the early stages.
TED WEST broke at the start.
THAT'S HUNTING PINK and THE WRATH OF ROBYN both raced keenly through the early and middle stages of the race.
TWILIGHT FRANCO commenced to tire from the 1000 metres then gave ground rapidly from the 800 metres and was eased from the event by driver C Barron. When questioned regarding the performance of TWILIGHT FRANCO Mr Barron advised he believed the mare had displaced a palate which was confirmed by the on-course veterinarian. The Stewards will contact trainer G Hunter in the upcoming week in relation to the performance of TWILIGHT FRANCO.
DEVIL MAY CARE was held up on the final bend.
When questioned regarding the performance of THE WRATH OF ROBYN driver C Ferguson confirmed the gelding had over raced during the running and this had taken its toll over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of THAT'S HUNTING PINK stable representative M Neilson advised that today's race had suited better than the mare's previous start on a heavy grass track at Reefton.
 
Race 10 THE RUBBER ROOFING CO GRADUATION SERIES (HEAT 1) MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GOTTA CALL HIM MIST broke entering the first bend while racing in the parked position.
LEOLAS DELIGHT skied its head and paced roughly on the first bend, then broke and shifted ground outwards striking the sulky of LIGHTNING FLIGHT on its outside. LEOLAS DELIGHT failed to settle and was subsequently retired from the event. HOT CHILLI, BAILEYS WISH and LIS IS FINE were all forced wider on the track by the breaking LEOLAS DELIGHT.
MAN I'M GOOD hung outwards and made the bend by the 1700 metres awkwardly and was then held up rounding the final bend.
Stewards opened and adjourned an investigation into the manner this race was run.
 
Race 11 THERMAKRAFT MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
NORTHVIEW MAJOR raced fiercely in the score-up and had to be severely restrained to allow TACT TATE to take up its position on the mobile.
TACT TATE, FRANCO TEVEZ and WOZNIACKI all raced keenly through the early stages when being restrained to take cover.
MACHJAGGER, SUMMERTIME LIZZIE and SUMTALA were all held up round the final bend by the tiring FRANCO TEVEZ.
SUMTALA was also held up throughout the run home with driver M Williamson advising he did not activate the removable deafeners.
